This investigation deals with experimental and numerical analyses carried out to investigate the discharge characteristics of latent heat storage columns, using cross-linked cylindrical plastic particles as a phase-change type of heat storage material and ethylene glycol as a heat transfer medium. In the experiment, the transient response of the outlet temperature of the heat transfer medium was measured under conditions of varying the initial temperature in the column, the inlet temperature of the heat transfer medium, the mass flow rate of the heat transfer medium, and the mass of the heat storage material packed in the column. In the numerical analysis, the transient temperature distributions in the column was calculated by using an empirical formula for estimating the heat transfer coefficient for a fixed bed, which was recommended in the authors' previous paper. Representing 2D and 3D data sets with implicit polynomials (IPs) has been attractive because of its applicability to various computer vision issues. Therefore, many IP fitting methods have already been proposed. However, the existing fitting methods can be and need to be improved with respect to computational cost for deciding on the appropriate degree of the IP representation and to fitting accuracy, while still maintaining the stability of the fit. We propose a stable method for accurate fitting that automatically determines the moderate degree required. Our method increases the degree of IP until a satisfactory fitting result is obtained. The incrementability of QR decomposition with Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization gives our method computational efficiency. Furthermore, since the decomposition detects the instability element precisely, our method can selectively apply ridge regression-based constraints to that element only. As a result, our method achieves computational stability while maintaining fitting accuracy. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method compared with prior methods.  相似文献

This paper investigates the relationships between the accepting powers of three-dimensional six-way finite automata (3-FA's) and three-dimensional five-way Turing machines (5WTM's), where the input tapes of these automata are restricted to cubic ones. A 3-FA (5WTM) can be considered as a natural extension of the two-dimensional four-way finite automaton (two-dimensional three-way Turing machine) to three dimensions. The main results are: (1) n2logn (n3) space is necessary and sufficient for deterministic 5WTM's to simulate deterministic (nondeterministic) 3-FA's; (2) n2 (n2) space is necessary and sufficient for nondeterministic 5WTM's to simulate deterministic (nondeterministic) 3-FA's.  相似文献

We propose a method for measuring surface shapes of transparent objects by using a polarizing filter. Generally, the light reflected from an object is partially polarized. The degree of polarization depends upon the incident angle, which, in turn, depends upon the surface normal. Therefore, we can obtain surface normals of objects by observing the degree of polarization at each surface point. Unfortunately, the correspondence between the degree of polarization and the surface normal is not one to one. Hence, to obtain the correct surface normal, we have to solve the ambiguity problem. In this paper, we introduce a method to solve the ambiguity by comparing the polarization data in two objects, i.e., normal position and tilted with small angle position. We also discuss the geometrical features of the object surface and propose a method for matching two sets of polarization data at identical points on the object surface.  相似文献

Scanning by a moving range sensor from the air is one of the most effective methods to obtain range data of large-scale objects since it can measure some regions invisible from the ground. The obtained data, however, have some distortions due to the sensor motion during the scanning period. Besides these distorted range data, there should be available range data sets taken by other sensors fixed on the ground. Based on the overlapping regions visible from the moving sensor and the fixed ones, we propose an extended alignment algorithm to rectify the distorted range data and to align the data to the models by the fixed sensors. By using CAD models, we estimate the accuracy and effectiveness of our proposed method. Then we apply it to some real data sets to prove the validity of the method.  相似文献
