MXenes are novel 2-D materials which have been extensively investigated for use in advanced biocomposites, water purification, biosensors, bioimaging and antibacterial systems. However, the knowledge associated with the mechanism of cytotoxic response is still limited to lack of verification against 3D spheroid-type cultures. Herein, we present a report on the in vitro cytotoxicity of Ti2CTx MXene against cervical cancer cell lines (HeLa) in a form of 3D spheroid with comparison to 2D cell culture system. Ti2CTx MXenes can be characterized by their multi-layered structure that is produced by the efficient elimination of Al and appearance of the surface functional groups. The biological results with 2D and 3D HeLa indicated that the Ti2CTx MXene was moderately cytotoxic to cells and the cytotoxicity was dose dependent. Our results showed that the toxicity of MXenes is potentially due to direct contact of the Ti2CTx MXene with the cell membrane wall. The Raman spectra suggested that the Ti2CTx MXenes interfered with the cytoplasmic proteins’ conformation and the surrounding microenvironment. This inherently modified the biochemistry of the cell membrane and caused cell apoptosis. This paper contributes to the pool of knowledge regarding the biocompatibility and biophysical properties of Ti2CTx MXene.  相似文献

We consider a slotted WDM packet switch with limited-range wavelength converters. The performance of this switch is studied using simulations with various types of data traffic. Joint source channel decoding (JSCD) for variable length codes (VLCs) has been shown to be effective for error- prone channels. In this paper, we propose two schemes to enhance the performance of the existing bit-based JSCD approach for VLCs. Simulation results show that the performance of the decoder can be significantly improved, while the computational complexity is only slightly increased by using our proposed schemes.  相似文献

In order to set ecological goals and determine measures for the European Water Framework Directive, the effects of climate change on lake ecosystems should be estimated. It is thought that the complexity of lake ecosystems makes this effect inherently unpredictable. However, models that deal with this complexity are available and well calibrated and tested. In this study we use the ecosystem model PCLake to demonstrate how climate change might affect the ecological status of a shallow peaty lake in 2050. With the model PCLake, combined with a long-term water and nutrient balance, it is possible to describe adequately the present status of the lake. Simulations of future scenarios with increasing precipitation, evaporation and temperature, showed that climate change will lead to higher nutrient loadings. At the same time, it will lead to lower critical loadings. Together this might cause the lake to shift easier from a clear water to a turbid state. The amount of algae, expressed as the concentration Chl-a, will increase, as a consequence turbidity will increase. The outcome of this study; increasing stability of the turbid state of the lake, and thus the need for more drastic measures, is consistent with some earlier studies.  相似文献

Grey-scale images consist of physical measurements of light. Scale-space theories have been developed to unconfound these measurements from the detector grid. In this framework, we look into the problem of binocular stereo. On a sufficiently large scale, a pixel carries information not only of the grey-value, but of the entire grey-value n-jet, i.e., derivatives up to order n. The subject of this paper is to show, in a general context, how the scale-space n-jet can be exploited for binocular matching. The analysis leads (under appropriate assumptions) to a direct determination of the local n-jet of the disparity field. The general result is an analysis which could be incorporated into many existing stereo algorithms to improve their use of the grey value data. In the computational scheme presented here, the estimations are strictly local, but based on image derivatives at a scale where the image structure is significant. This scale is automatically selected by minimising computational uncertainty. Results are shown as direct computations of surface normals on synthetic and real images.  相似文献

When elemental Ti and B powders were added to molten Al at above 1000°C, fine in situ TiB2 particulates were formed through Al–Ti–B exothermic reaction. By optimising the nucleation of TiB2, the tensile and yield strengths of a synthesised Al–15Vf%TiBs composite were twice that of matrix material. Modification of Al-matrix with 4.5 wt%Cu tripled the tensile and yield strengths at peak-aged condition. Owing to the co-presence of brittle Al3Ti flakes with TiB2 particles in the composites synthesised by the Al–Ti–B system, ductility was reduced to 68% and 84% in composites with Al- and Al–Cu matrices, respectively. When the (Ti + B) mixture was incorporated with 3 wt%C, TiB2 and TiC reinforcing phases were simultaneously produced in the composite with Al–Cu matrix. Such an approach reduced Al3Ti compound in the composite considerably. Although the presence of Cu in the composite was found to promote the formation of Al3Ti, its effect on the fluidity caused the melt recovery to increase from 33% to 52%.  相似文献

微流体技术是一种精确操控和检测微量流体的新兴技术,广泛应用于生物、化学、材料等领域的实验及工程中.液体弹珠作为一种新兴的数字微流体平台在近几年快速发展.它是一种将疏水的微纳米级颗粒包裹在液滴表面形成的软物质,体积通常在几微升到几百微升之间.区别于构建特殊表面微结构或化学改性制备的超疏水表面,液体弹珠是通过颗粒层阻隔内部液体与载体的微观接触,构建类似于莱顿弗罗斯特液滴的结构来实现微量液体在固体或液体表面不润湿且稳定存在的目的.目前的研究已经证明液体弹珠拥有独特优越的物理性能,如液体弹珠表面的颗粒层将固-液接触转化为固-固和固-气接触,因此具有不粘的特性,与载体表面的摩擦很小,在很小的外力作用下就可以实现灵活移动且不污染弹珠内的液体和载体.当表面颗粒呈多层且致密分布时也并非完全阻隔外界环境,在很大程度上能够减缓内部液体的蒸发且具有良好的气体渗透性,而且液体弹珠具有较好的稳固性,往往能够承受30%的可逆线性弹性形变,这些性能使液体弹珠可以作为理想的数字微流体平台.液体弹珠的原材料十分丰富,从而决定了其性状具有灵活的可调控性,所用颗粒的疏水性和形状会直接影响液体弹珠的力学性能,例如棒状颗粒包裹的液体弹珠具有更大的刚度,链状颗粒包裹的液体弹珠具有优越的弹性性能.颗粒的化学性质可以按需赋予液体弹珠不同的响应特性,从而衍生出多种操控手段,主要方式包括静电力、磁力、自推进、光辐射、温度、超声等,完成液体弹珠的精确移动、定位、颗粒层开启和关闭以及释放内部液体的操作.以上特性使液体弹珠能够应用于各种工程中,在细胞组织和微生物的培养以及微型化学反应器方面具有很好的应用前景,同时还被广泛应用于传感器、制药和精密仪器等领域,例如光电传感、污水检测、微型胶囊制备、构建纳米复合透镜以及精准电化学沉积等.同时液体弹珠制备方法较简单,无需复杂仪器设备,具有很高的经济效益.本文结合近年来液体弹珠相关研究的发展现状介绍了液体弹珠的制备方法、结构特点、材料和不同于纯液滴的性质主要包括有效表面张力、力学稳定性和蒸发速率,归纳了几种主流操作控制液体弹珠移动和释放的手段并分析优势与不足,总结了目前液体弹珠在工程上的主要应用并对其未来的发展趋势和应用前景进行展望.  相似文献

This study examined cross-sectional age relations of blood pressure, anthropometric indexes, serum lipids, and hemostatic variables in 203 subsistence horticulturists aged 20-86 y in Kitava, Trobriand Islands, Papua New Guinea. The population is characterized by extreme leanness (despite food abundance), low blood pressure, low plasma plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 activity, and rarity of cardiovascular disease. Tubers, fruit, fish, and coconut are dietary staples whereas dairy products, refined fat and sugar, cereals, and alcohol are absent and salt intake is low. Although diastolic blood pressure was not associated with age in Kitavans, systolic blood pressure increased linearly after 50 y of age in both sexes. Body mass index decreased with age in both sexes. Serum total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol, and apolipoprotein B increased in males between 20 and 50 y of age, whereas high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoprotein A-I decreased. There were no significant differences in these indexes with age in the few females studied. A slight linear age-related increase of lipoprotein(a) was present in males. Plasma fibrinogen, factor VII clotting activity, factor VIII clotting activity, and von Willebrand factor antigen increased with age in both sexes but plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 activity did not. The modest or absent relations between the indexes measured and age are apparently important explanations of the virtual nonexistence of stroke and ischemic heart disease in Kitava.  相似文献

The task of sifting through large amounts of data to find useful information spawned the field of data mining. Most data mining approaches are based on machine-learning techniques, numerical analysis, or statistical modeling. They use human interaction and visualization only minimally. Such automatic methods can miss some important features of the data. Incorporating human perception into the data mining process through interactive visualization can help us better understand the complex behaviors of computer network systems. This article describes visual-analytics-based solutions and outlines a visual exploration process for log analysis. Three log-file analysis applications demonstrate our approach's effectiveness in discovering flaws and intruders in network systems.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to analyze the behavior of Fiedler companion matrices in the polynomial root-finding problem from the point of view of conditioning of eigenvalues. More precisely, we compare: (a) the condition number of a given root \({\lambda }\) of a monic polynomial p(z) with the condition number of \({\lambda }\) as an eigenvalue of any Fiedler matrix of p(z), (b) the condition number of \({\lambda }\) as an eigenvalue of an arbitrary Fiedler matrix with the condition number of \({\lambda }\) as an eigenvalue of the classical Frobenius companion matrices, and (c) the pseudozero sets of p(z) and the pseudospectra of any Fiedler matrix of p(z). We prove that, if the coefficients of the polynomial p(z) are not too large and not all close to zero, then the conditioning of any root \({\lambda }\) of p(z) is similar to the conditioning of \({\lambda }\) as an eigenvalue of any Fiedler matrix of p(z). On the contrary, when p(z) has some large coefficients, or they are all close to zero, the conditioning of \({\lambda }\) as an eigenvalue of any Fiedler matrix can be arbitrarily much larger than its conditioning as a root of p(z) and, moreover, when p(z) has some large coefficients there can be two different Fiedler matrices such that the ratio between the condition numbers of \({\lambda }\) as an eigenvalue of these two matrices can be arbitrarily large. Finally, we relate asymptotically the pseudozero sets of p(z) with the pseudospectra of any given Fiedler matrix of p(z), and the pseudospectra of any two Fiedler matrices of p(z).  相似文献
