In cognitive aging research, the study of a general cognitive factor has been shown to have a substantial explanatory power over the study of isolated tests. The authors aimed at differentiating the impact of gender and education on global cognitive change with age from their differential impact on 4 psychometric tests using a new latent process approach, which intermediates between a single-factor longitudinal model for sum scores and an item-response theory approach for longitudinal data. The analysis was conducted on a sample of 2,228 subjects from PAQUID, a population-based cohort of older adults followed for 13 years with repeated measures of cognition. Adjusted for vascular factors, the analysis confirmed that women performed better in tests involving verbal components, while men performed better in tests involving visuospatial skills. In addition, the model suggested that women had a slightly steeper global cognitive decline with oldest age than men, even after excluding incident dementia or death. Subjects with higher education exhibited a better mean score for the 4 tests, but this difference tended to attenuate with age for tests involving a speed component. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of neurodegeneration of the nigrostriatal tract in a rodent model of Parkinson’s disease on the different MR contrasts (T2, T1, CBF and CBV) measured in the striatum.Material and methods
Animals were injected with 6-hydroxydopamine (6OHDA) in the substantia nigra resulting in massive loss of nigrostriatal neurons and hence dopamine depletion in the ipsilateral striatum. Using 7T MRI imaging, we have quantified T2, T1, CBF and CBV in the striata of 6OHDA and control rats. To validate the lesion size, behavioral testing, dopamine transporter μSPECT and tyrosine hydroxylase staining were performed.Results
No significant differences were demonstrated in the absolute MRI values between 6OHDA animals and controls; however, 6OHDA animals showed significant striatal asymmetry for all MRI parameters in contrast to controls.Conclusions
These PD-related asymmetry ratios might be the result of counteracting changes in both intact and affected striatum and allowed us to diagnose PD lesions. As lateralization is known to occur also in PD patients and might be expected in transgenic PD models as well, we propose that MR-derived asymmetry ratios in the striatum might be a useful tool for in vivo phenotyping of animal models of PD. 相似文献63.
Distance relays are widely used for protection of transmission lines. Usually, the nonlinear nature of an arcing fault requires that a time model be implemented to determine if the relay detects or not this fault condition. Moreover, the mutual effect of line conductors for single or multiphase faults requires that all three phases of the relay be modelized. This paper describes in detail a first generic MHO distance relay in EMTPWorks based on three separate single-phase impedance vectors. Cosine–sine filters are used to perform the phasor representation of the fundamental current and voltage computed over a 50/60 Hz sliding time window. Validation of the measured impedance function of the model is compared with the real apparent impedance of the network. We propose a novel parametric macromodeling method for systems described by scattering parameters, which depend on multiple design variables such as geometrical layout or substrate features. It is able to build accurate multivariate macromodels that are stable and passive over the entire design space. Poles and residues are parameterized indirectly. The proposed method is based on an efficient and reliable combination of rational identification, a procedure to find amplitude and frequency scaling system coefficients and positive interpolation schemes. The performance of a working prototype, operated with and without water flow through the heat exchangers, was measured and found to be in reasonably close agreement to predictions from a simulation code, DELTAE, based on linear thermoacoustic theory. Further analysis and DELTAE simulations showed that the coefficient of performance may be significantly reduced when the stack temperature profile becomes non-linear, i.e. when the system is operated for a temperature span smaller than the optimal value for a given stack length. This article describes the control optimization of a slotted switched reluctance generator for low-speed applications. The machine is simulated with the finite-element method. The turn-off and turn-on angles are optimized by means of a genetic algorithm to maximize the output power and minimize the torque ripple. First, these two criteria are optimized separately with a mono-objective genetic algorithm, and then a multi-objective Pareto genetic algorithm is used.
