The dialysis patient is prone to elevations in the calcium phosphorus product and hyperparathyroidism, which contributes to valvular and vascular calcification. We present the case of a young lady on chronic dialysis that developed mitral calcification complicated by severe mitral stenosis, caseous calcification and retinal embolization. This work aimed to develop an orange juice powder by spray drying with lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum 299v and Pediococcus acidilactici HA‐6111‐2), testing their survival both during drying and storage (room temperature and 4 °C). Initially, the best conditions for spray drying were chosen to allow the best survival of each LAB: (i) inlet air temperature of 120 °C and (ii) 0.5:2 ratio of the orange juice soluble solids and drying agent added (prebiotics: 10 DE maltodextrin or gum Arabic). Survival of LAB was not affected by drying process, and it was higher when cultures were stored at 4 °C. A slightly higher protection was conferred by 10 DE maltodextrin, in the case of L. plantarum and at 4 °C. Pediococcus acidilactici was more resistant during storage at 4 °C, with logarithmic reductions lower than 1 log‐unit. It was demonstrated that it is possible to produce a functional nondairy product, orange juice powder supplemented with prebiotic compounds, containing viable LAB for at least 7 months, when stored at 4 °C.  相似文献

When nonconforming discontinuous Galerkin methods are implemented for hyperbolic equations using quadrature, exponential energy growth can result even when the underlying scheme with exact integration does not support such growth. Using linear elasticity as a model problem, we propose a skew-symmetric formulation that has the same energy stability properties for both exact and inexact quadrature-based integration. These stability properties are maintained even when the material properties are variable and discontinuous, and the elements are non-affine (e.g., curved). Additionally, we show how the nonconforming scheme can be made conservative and constant preserving with variable material properties and curved elements. The analytic stability, conservation, and constant preserving results are confirmed through numerical experiments demonstrating the stability as well as the accuracy of the method.  相似文献

In this article, novel FIFO and RAM-based Synchronization Modules to keep synchronism throughout the input channels of a Data Acquisition Electronics (DAE) system are proposed. DAE is a main component of a Medical Imaging System, namely, a Positron Emission Mammography (PEM) system. DAE input data comes from a scanner constituted by an array of scintillating crystals. The scanner captures radiation generated by human cells injected with a radioactive substance and converts it into electrical signals. The corresponding digital information is sent to the DAE. In order to deal with the huge amount of data, flowing at high data rates, point-to-point (p2p) communication channels are used between the scanner and the DAE. Propagation delays associated with the different communication channels may change differently. Additionally, differences among channel delays may exceed one clock period. Keeping synchronism in these circumstances requires more than the classical asynchronous FIFO solution. All these aspects motivate the work proposed in this article. The PEM DAE system is a multi-board, multi-FPGA, multi-clock domain system. Therefore, the DAE architecture follows a Globally Asynchronous, Locally Synchronous (GALS) design style. The novel Synchronization Modules proposed in this article are implemented in the DAE. The effectiveness of these new structures is validated through simulation and laboratorial test. Prediction models based on artificial intelligence techniques have been widely used in Time Series Forecasting in several areas. They are often fuzzy models or neural networks. This paper describes the development of neural and fuzzy models for forecasting time series of practical examples, and shows the comparisons of results between models, including the results of statistical modeling. A pilot study was conducted to determine whether membrane treatment on a side stream of recirculating cooling-tower water could reduce overall water usage and discharge. The treated permeate was returned to the cooling tower while the concentrate was discharged to the sanitary sewer. Flow rates, pressures and water chemistry were monitored. The pilot demonstrated potential substantial water savings. Maximum make-up water and discharge reduction were 16% and 49%, respectively. As high as possible permeate recovery is needed to maximize water conservation. Silica scaling on the membranes limited water savings in this pilot. Development of membranes with a solute-rejection capacity less than the 92% average of the membranes used in the pilot would assist in optimizing water savings. Decreased water outlays compensated for the additional energy used by membrane treatment. Scaling control is critical for economic operation.  相似文献

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by providing non‐fossil fuel energy sources is imminently necessary. The area of particular interest in this paper is the agricultural greenhouse industry. In these structures, significant heating demands are present, especially in cold climates, and are typically met by combusting fossil fuels. In an effort towards a sustainable energy supply, the potential of closed greenhouse systems in a cold climate is explored. In these systems, natural ventilation for cooling and dehumidification is replaced with active systems, and the thermal energy removed can be re‐used, reducing the overall heating demand. A transient greenhouse model is created using TRNSYS software and validated with natural gas usage data from a reference greenhouse. The annual heating and cooling demands, effect of varying cover materials and potential for heat recovery ventilation are explored for the most concentrated greenhouse areas in Canada.
