We demonstrate a simple optical-fiber-based autocorrelator for picosecond short pulses based on degree-of-polarization measurement while tuning the relative delay of the two orthogonal polarization states of the pulse. The pulsewidths of 20-, 40-, and 80-GHz pulse trains and 2-ps pulses generated by a mode-locked laser are measured. The <-10-dBm optical powers are used in the experiment. The measurement results agree well with the measurements using conventional techniques. Compared with conventional autocorrelators, this technique has the advantages of 1) wavelength independent, 2) significant less alignment, and 3) no high power required. 相似文献

The influence of 0.1-0.6 at.-%RE additions (RE= La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Er, Yb) on themechanical properties of Pd was studied. All above RE additions increased not only the strengthproperties at ambient temperature but also the tensile strength, creep rupture time and activation en-ergy at high temperatures, simultaneously increased the elongation of Pd. In the range of dilute con-centration, the strength properties of Pd-RE alloy enhanced linearly with RE concentration. Whenthe strength properties of Pd-RE alloys were normalized at 0.1 at.-%RE, it was found that light REelements had stronger effect on the properties of Pd than heavy RE, whereas Eu, Yb, Ce had anoma-lous effect. In all Pd-RF alloys, Pd-Eu alloy had the highest strength properties, successively Pd-Yband Pd-Ce alloy. The effect mechanisms of RE in alloy, such as purifying impurities, increasingrecrystallization temperature, refining grain size. expanding crystal lattice, increasing dislocation den-sity and decreasing stacking fault energy, forming stable RE oxidation by internal oxidation, and soon, were observed. Examines the use of magnetic fields to functionally stimulate peripheral nerves. All electric fields are induced via a changing magnetic field whose flux is entirely confined within a closed magnetic circuit. Induced electric fields are simulated using a nonlinear boundary element solver. The induced fields are solved using duality theory. The accuracy of these predictions is verified by saline bath experiments. Next, the theory is applied to the stimulation of nerves using small, partially occluded ferrite and laminated vanadium permendur cores. Experiments demonstrate the successful stimulation of peripheral nerves in the African bullfrog with 11 mA, 153 mV excitations. These results offer a new vista of possibilities in the area of functional nerve stimulation. In this work, high concentration erbium doping in silicon-rich SiO2 thin films is demonstrated. Si plus Er dual-implanted thermal SiO2 thin films on Si substrates have been fabricated by using a new method, the metal vapor vacuum arc ion source implantation with relatively low ion energy, strong flux and very high dose. X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurement shows that very high Er concentrations on the surfaces of the samples, corresponding to 10 at.% or the doping level of 1021 atoms cm−3, are achieved. This value is much higher than that obtained by using other fabrication methods such as the high-energy ion implantation and molecular beam epitaxy. Reflective high-energy electron diffraction, atomic force microscopy and cross-section high-resolution transmission electron microscopy observations show that the excess Si atoms in SiO2 matrix accumulate to form Si clusters and then crystallize gradually into Si nanoparticles embedded in SiO2 films during dual-ion implantation followed by rapid thermal annealing. Er segregation and precipitates are not formed. Photoluminescence at the wavelength of 1.54 μm exhibits very weak temperature dependence due to the introduction of Si nanocrystals into the SiO2 matrix. The 1.54-μm light emission signals from annealed samples decrease by less than a factor of 2 when the measuring temperature increases from 77 K to room temperature. 相似文献
