We show that under suitable hypotheses on the nonporous material law and a geometric regularity condition on the pore space, Moulinec-Suquet's basic solution scheme converges linearly. We also discuss for which derived solvers a (super)linear convergence behavior may be obtained, and for which such results do not hold, in general. The key technical argument relies on a specific subspace on which the homogenization problem is nondegenerate, and which is preserved by iterations of the basic scheme. Our line of argument is based in the nondiscretized setting, and we draw conclusions on the convergence behavior for discretized solution schemes in FFT-based computational homogenization. Also, we see how the geometry of the pores' interface enters the convergence estimates. We provide computational experiments underlining our claims.  相似文献

A highly flexible, stretchable, and mechanically robust low‐cost soft composite consisting of silicone polymers and water (or hydrogels) is reported. When combined with conventional acoustic transducers, the materials reported enable high performance real‐time monitoring of heart and respiratory patterns over layers of clothing (or furry skin of animals) without the need for direct contact with the skin. The approach enables an entirely new method of fabrication that involves encapsulation of water and hydrogels with silicones and exploits the ability of sound waves to travel through the body. The system proposed outperforms commercial, metal‐based stethoscopes for the auscultation of the heart when worn over clothing and is less susceptible to motion artefacts. The system both with human and furry animal subjects (i.e., dogs), primarily focusing on monitoring the heart, is tested; however, initial results on monitoring breathing are also presented. This work is especially important because it is the first demonstration of a stretchable sensor that is suitable for use with furry animals and does not require shaving of the animal for data acquisition.  相似文献

To allow for large‐scale forming applications, such as converting paperboard into package containers, efficient and reliable numerical tools are needed. In finite element simulations of thin structures, elements including structural features are required to reduce the computational cost. Solid‐shell elements based on reduced integration with hourglass stabilization is an attractive choice. One advantage of this choice is the natural inclusion of the thickness, not present in standard degenerated shells, which is especially important for many problems involving contact. Furthermore, no restrictions are imposed on the constitutive models since the solid‐shell element does not require the plane stress condition to be enforced. In this work, a recently proposed efficient solid‐shell element is implemented together with a state‐of‐the‐art continuum model for paperboard. This approach is validated by comparing the obtained numerical results with experimental results for paperboard as well as with those found by using 3D continuum elements. To show the potential of this approach, a large‐scale forming simulation of paperboard is used as a proof of concept.  相似文献

Partial flow dilution (PFD) offers a number of benefits relative to conventional full flow dilution tunnels for motor vehicle PM emissions measurement in terms of measurement variability, footprint, and cost. Its implementation into automotive emissions test cells depends on its ability to record PM mass emissions equivalent to the current constant volume sampling (CVS) dilution tunnel approach. The present work examines factors critical to successful application of PFD sampling and compares vehicle PM emissions measured simultaneously by PFD and CVS tunnel. The combination of a current technology commercial PFD system and ultrasonic flow meter fulfill the two principal requirements of accurate exhaust flow measurement and fast time response for proportional sampling. PM mass emissions measured by PFD versus CVS systems satisfy a 1.03 ± 0.03 regression for the regulatory FTP test cycle, and comparably good agreement for the supplemental US06 drive cycle. Both dilution approaches are amenable to the single filter approach newly allowed under EPA regulations; however, the PFD sample weighted approach has the capability to provide a roughly 35% lower variability relative to the flow weighted approach used in the CVS method. Whereas partial flow dilution has seen application in heavy duty engine measurements, the present work demonstrates its feasibility for light duty chassis dynamometer testing.

The aim of this study was to monitor and characterise internal leachate quality at a Finnish municipal solid waste landfill (Lahti, Kujala, in operation for approximately 50 years) to provide information about its horizontal and vertical variation as well as effects of leachate recirculation on leachate quality. The study area (approximately 4 h) of the landfill had 14 monitoring wells for leachate quality monitoring over a 2-year period. The leachate was monitored for COD, BOD, TKN, NH4–N, Cl, pH and electric conductivity. The results showed high horizontal and vertical variability in leachate quality between monitoring wells, indicating that age and properties of waste, local conditions (e.g., water table) and degradation and dilution processes have a marked effect on local leachate quality. The mean COD values (642–8037 mg/l) and mean BOD/COD ratios (0.08–0.17) from the different monitoring wells were typical of landfills in the methanogenic phase of degradation. The leachate in the monitoring wells was notably more concentrated than the leachate effluent used for leachate recirculation. In the landfill as a whole the effects of the leachate recirculation on leachate quality, although difficult to distinguish from those caused by other factors, appeared to be minor during the study period.  相似文献

Objective

Our aim was to map the in vivo human functional connectivity of several brainstem nuclei with the rest of the brain by using seed-based correlation of ultra-high magnetic field functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data.

Materials and methods

We used the recently developed template of 11 brainstem nuclei derived from multi-contrast structural MRI at 7 Tesla as seed regions to determine their connectivity to the rest of the brain. To achieve this, we used the increased contrast-to-noise ratio of 7-Tesla fMRI compared with 3 Tesla and time-efficient simultaneous multi-slice imaging to cover the brain with high spatial resolution (1.1-mm isotropic nominal resolution) while maintaining a short repetition time (2.5 s).

Results

The delineated Pearson’s correlation-based functional connectivity diagrams (connectomes) of 11 brainstem nuclei of the ascending arousal, motor, and autonomic systems from 12 controls are presented and discussed in the context of existing histology and animal work.

Conclusion

Considering that the investigated brainstem nuclei play a crucial role in several vital functions, the delineated preliminary connectomes might prove useful for future in vivo research and clinical studies of human brainstem function and pathology, including disorders of consciousness, sleep disorders, autonomic disorders, Parkinson’s disease, and other motor disorders.

This study evaluates the potential of bioconversion of crude glycerol, discharged from biodiesel production plant, to hydrogen (H2) by an enriched microbial community. Microbial community was enriched from activated sludge in a medium amended with 2.5 g/L of crude glycerol. Optimal cultivation parameters for H2 production such as initial pH, cultivation temperature and substrate concentration were investigated. H2 yields from raw glycerol at optimal conditions (pH 6.5; 40 °C and 1 g/L raw glycerol) were 1.1 ± 0.1 mol-H2/mol-glycerolconsumed. H2 production was associated with acetate-butyrate type fermentation, along with ethanol as one of the end products. Kinetic experiments on H2 production from pure and crude glycerol indicated the absence of any inhibitory effects from the impurities present in crude glycerol. The community analysis revealed that the enriched microbial consortium was dominated mainly by Clostridium species.  相似文献

Acoustic wave fields in a thin-film bulk acoustic wave resonator are studied using a heterodyne laser interferometer. The measurement area is extended outside the active electrode region of the resonator, so that wave fields in both the active and surrounding regions can be characterized. At frequencies at which the region surrounding the resonator does not support laterally propagating acoustic waves, the analysis of the measurement data shows exponentially decaying amplitude fields outside the active resonator area, as suggested by theory. The magnitude of the imaginary wave vectors is determined by fitting an exponential function to the measured amplitude data, and thereby the experimentally determined dispersion diagram is extended into the region of imaginary wave numbers.  相似文献
