In this work, we show by which mechanism branching of the hydrocarbon chains influences the cloud point of nonionic, ethoxylated surfactants. The temperature-induced separation into a dilute and a concentrated liquid phase is of liquid–gas type and can be explained by the relative probability of endcaps and branching points of the cylindrical micelles in both phases. The influence of branches on the hydrocarbon chains can be easily understood by means of spontaneous and effective packing concepts, while quantification via hydrophilic/lipophilic balance (HLB), hydrophilic-lipophilic difference (HLD), and HLD-Net Average Curvature requires parametrization. The phase equilibrium above the cloud point phenomenon is equivalent to the Winsor I type phase equilibrium, one of the five known phase equilibria in ternary systems. 相似文献

In search of new therapies for pancreatic cancer, cytokine pathways have attracted increasing interest in recent years. Cytokines play a vital role in the crosstalk between tumour cells and the tumour microenvironment. The related inflammatory cytokines IL-4 and IL-13 can regularly be detected at increased levels in the microenvironment of pancreatic cancer. They share a receptor heterodimer consisting of IL-4Rα and IL-13Rα1. While IL-4Rα induces a more oncogenic phenotype, the role of IL-13Rα1 was yet to be determined. ShRNA-based knockdown of IL-13Rα1 was performed in Capan-1 and MIA PaCa-2. We assessed cell growth and migratory capacities under the influence of IL-13Rα1. Pathway alterations were detected by immunoblot analysis. We now have demonstrated that the loss of IL-13Rα1 induces apoptosis in pancreatic cancer cells. This was associated with an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. Loss of IL-13Rα1 also abolished the effects of exogenous IL-4 and IL-13 stimulation. Interestingly, in wild type cells, cytokine stimulation caused a similar increase in migratory capacities as after IL-13Rα1 knockdown. Overall, our results indicate the vital role of IL-13Rα1 in the progression of pancreatic cancer. The differential expression of IL-4Rα and IL-13Rα1 has to be taken into account when considering a cytokine-targeted therapy in pancreatic cancer. 相似文献

Simultaneous Hall and conductivity measurements have been performed on sputtered polycrystalline thin films and on bulk ceramic specimens of nearly stoichiometric CeO2 in the temperature range between 900° and 1040°C. The measurements have been performed in air using low-frequency alternating current. In the case of the bulk ceramic specimens, an upper limit for the carrier mobility of ≤0.2 cm2 /(V·s) has been obtained, which is in accordance with data from the literature for bulk samples. The conductivity of the thin films (l/1Ω·m) at 1000°C) is in accordance with data from the literature for bulk ceramics. The carrier density derived from the Hall measurements (3 × 1016 /cm3 at 1000°C) increases with increasing temperature, whereas the Hall mobility (4 cm2 (V·s) at 1000°C) decreases with increasing temperature. These values differ from literature data for bulk ceramic specimens. The difference may be duelo the small grain diameters (∼200 nm) in the 1-μm-thick thin films. 相似文献

Promising to cope with increasing demand variety and uncertainty, flexibility in general and process flexibility in particular are becoming ever more desired corporate capabilities. During the last years, the business process management and the production/operations management communities have proposed numerous approaches that investigate how to valuate and determine an appropriate level of process flexibility. Most of these approaches are very restrictive regarding their application domain, neglect characteristics of the involved processes and outputs other than demand and capacity, and do not conduct a thorough economic analysis of process flexibility. Against this backdrop, the authors propose an optimization model that determines an appropriate level of process flexibility in line with the principles of value-based business process management. The model includes demand uncertainty, variability, criticality, and similarity as process characteristics. The paper also reports on the insights gained from applying the optimization model to the coverage switching processes of an insurance broker pool company. 相似文献
