The thermal performance of an enthalpy/membrane heat exchanger is experimentally investigated. The heat exchanger utilizes a 60gsm Kraft paper as the heat and moisture transfer surface for HVAC energy recovery. The heat exchanger sensible, latent and total effectiveness have been determined through temperature and moisture content measurements. The annual energy consumption of an air conditioner coupled with an enthalpy/membrane heat exchanger is also studied and compared with a conventional air conditioning cycle using in-house modified HPRate software. The heat exchanger effectiveness are used as thermal performance indicators and incorporated in the modified software. Energy analysis showed that an air conditioning system coupled with a membrane heat exchanger consumes less energy than a conventional air conditioning system in hot and humid climates where the latent load is high. It has been shown that in humid climate a saving of up to 8% in annual energy consumption can be achieved when membrane heat exchanger is used instead of a conventional HVAC system. 相似文献

for low depths. The possibility of using an electrically conductive material as an etch-stop layer for SACE gravity-feed drilling
is investigated in this paper. Micromachining with constant DC and pulsed DC of 30–35 μm thick SiO2 deposited on low resistive silicon substrate demonstrated the etch-stop function of the conductive silicon. Measurements

The rover sequencing and visualization program (RSVP) suite of tools has been a critical factor in the success of the Mars exploration rover (MER) missions. It would be impossible to prepare the large command loads each sol without the capabilities that it possesses. It has proven to be robust and easy to use and capable of answering key questions about sequence validity and constraints. Certainly, training is required to use RSVP, but this is primarily in the general area of command sequencing and rover operations. Once these concepts are understood, RSVP feels natural for building sequences. RSVP has met its prime requirements of supporting rapid assimilation and understanding of the terrain and operational constraints, rapid sequence generation and validation, and production of documentation and archival products. This can be seen in the very limited number of sols lost due to errors in the command sequences. Definition of the immune process that causes demyelination in multiple sclerosis is essential to determine the feasibility of Ag-directed immunotherapy. Using the nonhuman primate, Callithrix jacchus jacchus (common marmoset), we show that immunization with myelin basic protein and proteolipid protein determinants results in clinical disease with significant demyelination. Demyelination was associated with spreading to myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) determinants that generated anti-MOG serum Abs and Ig deposition in central nervous system white matter lesions. These data associate intermolecular "determinant spreading" with clinical autoimmune disease in primates and raise important issues for the pathogenesis and treatment of multiple sclerosis. 相似文献

Blood samples from 740 Egyptian Nationals working in the tourism industry at two sites in the South Sinai governorate were screened for markers of infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and Treponema pallidum. Study subjects included 467 individuals from a rural seashore tourist village and 273 persons at two hotels in a well-established resort town. Subjects' ages ranged from 15 to 70 years; 99.3% were male. The prevalence of serologic markers for currently asymptomatic or past HBV infection alone was 20.7% (n = 153), of markers for past or chronic HCV infection alone was 7.4% (n = 55), and of markers for both HBV and HCV was 6.9% (n = 51). Of the 204 individuals positive for anti-HBV core antibody, 12 (5.9%) were also positive for hepatitis B surface antigen. Two individuals (0.3%) had a serologic market suggestive of an active syphilitic infection. No subject was found to be HIV-seropositive. History of prior injections and number of injections were associated with infection with HCV. Primary residence in the Nile delta and valley areas where schistosomiasis is highly endemic, was also a statistically significant risk factor for HCV, but not HBV infection. 相似文献

At present, little information is available on specific chromosomal aberrations in malignant melanomas of different subtypes and different growth behaviors. Therefore, we have applied fluorescence in situ hybridization on isolated interphase cells from paraffin sections of 79 primary tumors of malignant melanomas: 47 nodular melanomas and 32 superficial spreading melanomas in various stages. We used centromeric probes for the chromosomes 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, X, and Y and a midisatellite probe localized in 1p36. The number of chromosomal aberrations and the ploidy of the cells rose with the tumor stage in both subtypes, although in superficial spreading melanomas, fewer chromosomal abnormalities were detectable than in nodular melanomas. A deletion in 1p36 could only be found in nodular melanomas (mostly in higher tumor stages), not in superficial spreading melanomas. Our results show that the different histologic subtypes of malignant melanoma of the skin differ also in their chromosomal aberrations. In addition, it seems that there may be a correlation between the growth characteristics and putative tumor suppressor genes on 1p36. 相似文献
