The conservation and efficient use of energy in industry has, for a long time, been a priority of the Government of India. In anticipation of the enactment of federal legislation on energy management for industry, the State of Government of Tamilnadu, Kerala, and other Southern States, made energy audits mandatory for large-scale energy-consuming industries. So among industrial consumers, the aspect of energy conservation is gaining due importance of the realization that Energy Saved is Energy Produced and that too at Economical Cost. This paper shares the experiences of the authors on energy conservation projects carried out in a textile industry situated in India's Tamilnadu State. Economic and efficient measures of energy conservation have been followed subject to budget constraints and the effect of such measures were realized through reduction in energy costs with the added advantage of environmental safety  相似文献

Biodiesel either in neat form or as a mixture with diesel fuel is widely investigated to solve the twin problem of depletion of fossil fuels and environmental degradation. The main objective of the present study is to compare performance, emission and combustion characteristics of biodiesel derived from non edible Jatropha oil in a dual fuel diesel engine with base line results of diesel fuel. The performance parameters evaluated were: brake thermal efficiency, brake specific fuel consumption, power output. As a part of combustion study, in-cylinder pressure, rate of pressure rise and heat release rates were evaluated. The emission parameters such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, un-burnt hydrocarbon, oxides of nitrogen and smoke opacity with the different fuels were also measured and compared with base line results. The different properties of Jatropha oil after transestrification were within acceptable limits of standards as set by many countries. The brake thermal efficiency of Jatropha methyl ester and its blends with diesel were lower than diesel and brake specific energy consumption was found to be higher. However, HC, CO and CO2 and smoke were found to be lower with Jatropha biodiesel fuel. NOx emissions on Jatropha biodiesel and its blend were higher than Diesel. The results from the experiments suggest that biodiesel derived from non edible oil like Jatropha could be a good substitute to diesel fuel in diesel engine in the near future as far as decentralized energy production is concerned. In view of comparable engine performance and reduction in most of the engine emissions, it can be concluded and biodiesel derived from Jatropha and its blends could be used in a conventional diesel engine without any modification.  相似文献

To diversify the mix of domestic energy resources and to reduce dependence on imported oil, ethanol is widely investigated for applying in combination with Diesel fuel to reduce pollutants, including smoke and NOx. Present work aims at developing a fumigation system for introduction of ethanol in a small capacity Diesel engine and to determine its effects on emission. Fumigation was achieved by using a constant volume carburetor. Different percentages of ethanol fumes with air were then introduced in the Diesel engine, under various load conditions. Ethanol is an oxygenated fuel and lead to smooth and efficient combustion. Atomization of ethanol also results in lower combustion temperature. During the present study, gaseous emission has been found to be decreasing with ethanol fumigation. Results from the experiment suggest that ethanol fumigation can be effectively employed in existing compression ignition engine to achieve substantial saving of the limited Diesel oil. Results show that fumigated Diesel engine exhibit better engine performance with lower NOx, CO, CO2 and exhaust temperature. Ethanol fumigation has resulted in increase of unburned hydrocarbon (HC) emission in the entire load range. Considering the parameters, the optimum percentage was found as 15% for ethanol fumigation.  相似文献

The authors compare the subband compression capabilities of eight filter sets (consisting of linear-phase quadrature mirror filters (QMFs), perfect reconstruction filters, and nonlinear phase wavelets) at different bit rates, using-a filter-based bit allocation procedure. Ultra-wideband (UWB) disc monopole antenna with crescent shaped slot for double band-notched features is presented. Planned antenna discards worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) band (3.3–3.6 GHz) and wireless local area network (WLAN) band (5–6 GHz). Defected ground compact electromagnetic band gap (DG-CEBG) designs are used to accomplish band notches in WiMAX and WLAN bands. Defected ground planes are utilised to achieve compactness in electromagnetic band gap (EBG) structures. The proposed WiMAX and WLAN DG-CEBG designs show a compactness of around 46% and 50%, respectively, over mushroom EBG structures. Parametric analyses of DG-CEBG design factors are carried out to control the notched frequencies. Stepwise notch transition from upper to lower frequencies is presented with incremental inductance augmentation. The proposed antenna is made-up on low-cost FR-4 substrate of complete extents as (42 × 50 × 1.6) mm3.Fabricated sample antenna shows excellent consistency in simulated and measured outcomes.  相似文献

The present study deals with numerical investigations of the boiling phenomena over a spherical surface at different degrees of superheat (ΔT), varying from 10 to 500 K. Various phenomena like vapor sliding, bubble formation, pinch-off, induced vorticity have been illustrated for a deep understanding of the boiling process over a spherical surface. The effect of the degree of superheat on the bubble pinch-off time and volume is also investigated. Further, reported the spatial observation of vapor sliding and retention over the surface with time scale, overall and average characteristics. The fast Fourier transform of a spaced average void fraction of liquid and Nusselt number showed the dominance of film boiling with respect to the degree of superheat. As the degree of superheat increases, the vapor generation rate also increases, which produces a more vapor–liquid interface. Further, with an increase in the degree of superheat, the vapor generation progression shifted from linear to nonlinear patterns. A sphere with ΔT = 500 K generated 32.59 times more vapor than a sphere with ΔT = 10 K. It is found that the vapor generation is dependent on the degree of superheating and exposed time for heating. Thus, a correlation and artificial neural network model have been developed to predict vapor generation during boiling over the spherical surface as a function of time and degree of superheat.  相似文献

In the present work, AA 6351-xZrB2 [x = 0, 3, 6 and 9 weight percentage (wt.%)] in situ composites have been prepared by the reaction of mixture of K2ZrF6 and KBF4 with molten aluminium alloy at a reaction temperature of 850 °C. The in situ prepared composites were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and microhardness analysis. The sliding wear properties of the prepared composite at room temperature were estimated by a pin-on-disc wear testing equipment using the composite material; the pins were machined according to standard sizes, and the tests were conducted as per the standards recommended by the ASTM G99-95a designation of different weighing percentage at room temperature. The wear characteristics of the composite in the as-cast, the solutionized and the solutionized-aged conditions were studied by conducting sliding wear test at the load of 9.81 N. The results indicated that the wear rate was decreased with an increase in the weight percentage of ZrB2 and the wear resistance was increased with an increase in the fraction of ZrB2 particulates in composite before and after heat treatment.  相似文献
