UV‐cured polysiloxane epoxy coatings containing titanium dioxide were prepared by means of a cationic photopolymerization process. A good distribution of the inorganic filler was achieved within the polymeric network with an average size dimension of around 500 nm. UV‐vis analysis performed on organic dye (methylene blue) stained coatings showed a high efficiency of the titania photocatalytic activity: a complete degradation of the dye on the coating surface is reached after 60 min of UV irradiation without affecting the matrix photo‐degradation.

The preparation of new rubber based nanocomposites by using properly modified organophilic clays is described. A commercial organophilic montmorillonite containing a hydroxylated ammonium ion is reacted with LPBs. The reaction causes a decrease of the polarity of the clay and a great increase of the interlayer distance. The modified organoclays are successfully dispersed into rubber matrices (SBR or BR) by melt blending in an internal batch mixer. SAXS analyses and TEM micrographs revealed the formation of highly exfoliated nanocomposites containing intercalated stacks made of few lamellae.

The foliage and fruit of the tomato plantLycopersicon esculentum contains polyphenol oxidases (PPO) and peroxidases (POD) that are compartmentally separated from orthodihydroxyphenolic substrates in situ. However, when leaf tissue is damaged by insect feeding, the enzyme and phenolic substrates come in contact, resulting in the rapid oxidation of phenolics to orthoquinones. When the tomato fruitwormHeliothis zea or the beet army-wormSpodoptera exigua feed on tomato foliage, a substantial amount of the ingested chlorogenic acid is oxidized to chlorogenoquinone by PPO in the insect gut. Additionally, the digestive enzymes of the fruitworm have the potential to further activate foliar oxidase activity in the gut. Chlorogenoquinone is a highly reactive electrophilic molecule that readily binds cova-lently to nucleophilic groups of amino acids and proteins. In particular, the —SH and —NH2 groups of amino acids are susceptible to binding or alkylation. In experiments with tomato foliage, the relative growth rate of the fruitworm was negatively correlated with PPO activity. As the tomato plant matures, foliar PPO activity may increase nearly 10-fold while the growth rate of the fruitworm is severely depressed. In tomato fruit, the levels of PPO are highest in small immature fruit but are essentially negligible in mature fruit. The growth rate of larvae on fruit was also negatively correlated with PPO activity, with the fastest larval growth rate occurring when larvae fed on mature fruit. The reduction in larval growth is proposed to result from the alkylation of amino acids/protein byo-quinones, and the subsequent reduction in the nutritive quality of foliage. This alkylation reduces the digestibility of dietary protein and the bioavailability of amino acids. We believe that this mechanism of digestibility reduction may be extrapolatable to other plant-insect systems because of the ubiquitous cooccurrence of PPO and phenolic substrates among vascular plant species.  相似文献

The melting and crystallization behaviour of a series of isotactic propene/1-pentene random copolymers, with 1-pentene contents up to 50 mol%, was investigated by DSC and temperature resolved WAXD/SAXS. The role of the 1-pentene comonomer in the development of the trigonal modification (δ-form) of i-PP was studied and the results were compared with those reported in the literature for PP copolymers with 1-hexene. The crystallizing capability of the δ-form, which develops in the composition range between ca. 10 and 50 mol% of 1-pentene content, only slightly decreases with concentration of 1-pentene. This result is correlated with the limits imposed to cell expansion by the crystal density. The crystallinity degree calculated from the deconvolution of the WAXD patterns is in fair agreement with the results of the DSC analysis, from which the value of the melting enthalpy of the perfect i-PP δ-form has been estimated to be around 140 J/g. The crystallization kinetics of the trigonal modification is characterized by a composition-dependent induction time followed by a relatively fast development of structural order. The sharp WAXD reflections combined with the SAXS data suggest that, notwithstanding the intrinsic intrachain structural disorder, thin and wide lamellae characterize the morphology of the δ-form crystallites.  相似文献

The use of mononuclear Cu(II) 2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenantroline complexes as catalysts in the oxidation of benzene, using hydrogen peroxide and tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant in CH3CN/H2O solution is presented. The reactions were carried out at 25 and at 50 °C. The complexes [Cu(bipy)3]Cl2 · 6H2O (1), [Cu(bipy)2Cl]Cl · 5H2O (2), [Cu(bipy)Cl2] (3), [Cu(phen)3]Cl2 · 7H2O (4), [Cu(phen)2Cl]Cl · 5H2O (5), [Cu(phen)Cl2] (6) were able to oxidize benzene into phenol, hydroquinone and p-benzoquinone. Highest conversion (22%) was obtained using [Cu(Phen)Cl2] (6) as catalyst.  相似文献

The machining of shape memory alloys (SMAs), such as NiTi based alloys, is a very interesting and relevant topic for several industrial applications in the biomedical, sensor and actuator fields. Laser technology is one of the most suitable methods for the manufacturing of products in the aforementioned fields, mainly when small and precise features have to be included. Due to the thermal nature of this process, study of its effect on the functional properties of these materials is needed. Except for binary NiTi, few results on the laser machining of NiTi based alloys are available in the literature. In this work, thin sheets of Ni40Ti50Cu10 (at.%) were processed by a fibre laser and the effect of process speed on the material properties was analysed. Scanning electronic microscopy was adopted for observation of the laser cut edges’ morphology. Chemical composition of the processed material was evaluated by energy dispersion spectroscopy and nanohardness measurements were used to estimate the heat affected zone. SMA functional properties were studied on both base and laser machined material. These characteristics are affected by laser machining for the presence of melted material; this effect can be minimised by increasing the laser process speed.  相似文献

The peri-infarct region, which surrounds the irreversible ischemic stroke area is named ischemic penumbra. This term emphasizes the borderline conditions for neurons placed within such a critical region. Area penumbra separates the ischemic core, where frank cell loss occurs, from the surrounding healthy brain tissue. Within such a brain region, nervous matter, and mostly neurons are impaired concerning metabolic conditions. The classic biochemical marker, which reliably marks area penumbra is the over-expression of the heat shock protein 70 (HSP70). However, other proteins related to cell clearing pathways are modified within area penumbra. Among these, autophagy proteins like LC3 increase in a way, which recapitulates Hsp70. In contrast, components, such as P20S, markedly decrease. Despite apparent discrepancies, the present study indicates remarkable overlapping between LC3 and P20S redistribution within area penumbra. In fact, the amount of both proteins is markedly reduced within vacuoles. Specifically, a massive loss of LC3 + P20S immuno-positive vacuoles (autophagoproteasomes) is reported here. This represents the most relevant sub-cellular alteration here described in cell clearing pathways within area penumbra. The functional significance of these findings remains to be determined and it will take a novel experimental stream to decipher the fine-tuning of such a phenomenon.  相似文献

Sepsis causes high rates of morbidity and mortality in NICUs. The estimated incidence varies between 5 and 170 per 1000 births, depending on the social context. In very low birth-weight neonates, the level of mortality increases with the duration of hospitalization, reaching 36% among infants aged 8–14 days and 52% among infants aged 15–28 days. Early diagnosis is the only tool to improve the poor prognosis of neonatal sepsis. Blood culture, the gold standard for diagnosis, is time-consuming and poorly sensitive. C-reactive protein and procalcitonin, currently used as sepsis biomarkers, are influenced by several maternal and fetal pro-inflammatory conditions in the perinatal age. Presepsin is the N-terminal fragment of soluble CD14 subtype (sCD14-ST): it is released in the bloodstream by monocytes and macrophages, in response to bacterial invasion. Presepsin seems to be a new, promising biomarker for the early diagnosis of sepsis in neonates as it is not modified by perinatal confounding inflammatory factors. The aim of the present review is to collect current knowledge about the role of presepsin in critically ill neonates.  相似文献

The PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) pathway provides an RNA interference (RNAi) mechanism known from Drosophila studies to maintain the integrity of the germline genome by silencing transposable elements (TE). Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which are the key vectors of several arthropod-borne viruses, exhibit an expanded repertoire of Piwi proteins involved in the piRNA pathway, suggesting functional divergence. Here, we investigate RNA-binding dynamics and subcellular localization of A. aegypti Piwi4 (AePiwi4), a Piwi protein involved in antiviral immunity and embryonic development, to better understand its function. We found that AePiwi4 PAZ (Piwi/Argonaute/Zwille), the domain that binds the 3′ ends of piRNAs, bound to mature (3′ 2′ O-methylated) and unmethylated RNAs with similar micromolar affinities (KD = 1.7 ± 0.8 μM and KD of 5.0 ± 2.2 μM, respectively; p = 0.05) in a sequence independent manner. Through site-directed mutagenesis studies, we identified highly conserved residues involved in RNA binding and found that subtle changes in the amino acids flanking the binding pocket across PAZ proteins have significant impacts on binding behaviors, likely by impacting the protein secondary structure. We also analyzed AePiwi4 subcellular localization in mosquito tissues. We found that the protein is both cytoplasmic and nuclear, and we identified an AePiwi4 nuclear localization signal (NLS) in the N-terminal region of the protein. Taken together, these studies provide insights on the dynamic role of AePiwi4 in RNAi and pave the way for future studies aimed at understanding Piwi interactions with diverse RNA populations.  相似文献

Starting from 1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane, we have prepared two compounds by replacing the amine hydrogens with naphthyl or 3,5-bis(2′-oxymethylnaphthyl)benzyl units. The absorption and emission spectra of compounds 2 (N,N′-bis(2-naphthylmethyl)-1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane) and 3 (N,N′-bis[3,5-bis(2′-oxymethylnaphthyl)benzyl]-1,4,10,13-tetraoxa-7,16-diazacyclooctadecane) have been studied in CH3CN:CH2Cl2 1:1 (v/v) solution. For comparison purposes, the spectroscopic properties of N-methyl(2-methylnaphthalene)ethylamine (1) have also been investigated. For each compound, the absorption spectra are qualitatively very similar to that of naphthalene, with molar absorption coefficients as expected for the presence of one (1), two (2), and four (3) naphthyl chromophoric groups. The fluorescence spectra, however, are quite different from that of naphthalene. The naphthalene-type fluorescence (λmax = 337 nm) is strongly quenched, particularly for compounds 1 and 2 which also exhibit a broad emission band in the visible region (λmax ≈ 480 nm) assigned to a low lying charge-transfer excited state. In the case of compound 3, a quenched naphthalene-type band is accompanied by weak exciplex and excimer emissions. Upon titration with CF3SO3H, the charge transfer bands of 1 and 2 and the exciplex emission of 3 disappear and the naphthalene-type bands regain intensity. Titration plots show that in compounds 2 and 3 the protonation of the two nitrogens occurs stoichiometrically in two distinct steps. Titration with Zn2+ gives rise to 2.Zn2+ and 3.Zn2+ complexes.
