A permeability measurement method based on perturbed pressure decay between a source and a sink communicating through a porous medium is formulated. Nonideality of gas as well as corrections due to adsorption are considered. The method allows us to infer permeability at a given rock and fluid state. The accuracy of the method may be evaluated through comparison with theoretical decay characteristics and its modal amplitudes. A quantitative evaluation of the experimental inference is therefore possible. Based on the pressure decay theory, an apparatus built in our laboratory for measuring permeability is presented. As a secondary output, data analysis also provides porosity. The lowest permeability that the present apparatus is capable of characterizing is about 0.3 nm2, and with additional improvements, capability down to 0.05 nm2 is anticipated. Where a steady‐state permeameter is pragmatic, excellent agreement between the two measurements is showed, validating the method. Measurements in synthetic samples also show that the method is accurate. It is difficult and challenging to achieve uniform nanoscale surface finish in the contact zone, particularly on freeform (or sculptured) surfaces having different curvatures at different locations. Femoral (or, Knee joint component) is one of such biomedical freeform component which has complex profile along its curvature. Surface conditions of a femoral decide the life of the implant and they play a crucial role in its functionality. The variation in surface roughness of the femoral should be minimum in the contact zone. For this purpose, a special tooling is being proposed for rotational magnetorheological abrasive flow finishing (R-MRAFF) process. A negative replica of the workpiece (knee joint) as a tool (or a fixture) is used so that the medium flow velocity in the fluid flow channel is almost constant (or minimum possible variations) along the medium flow direction. It is able to do differential finishing also along the curvature. In addition, pulsating magnetic field has been used to generate vibrations in the medium in the finishing zone so that the possibility of fresh abrasive particles interacting with the surface of femoral is high. The surface finish has been achieved ranging from 26 nm to 62 nm using the proposed finishing technique and negative replica of the workpiece (femoral) as a fixture. 相似文献

This study attributed to post treatment of tungsten carbide (WC) inserts using microwave irradiation. Tungsten carbide inserts were subjected to microwave radiation (2.45 GHz) to enhance its performance in terms of reduction in tool wear rate, cutting force surface roughness and improvement in tool life. Performance of tungsten carbide insert is very much affected by machine operating parameters i.e. speed, feed and depth of cut. An attempt has been made to investigate the effects of machining parameters on microwave treated tool inserts. This paper describes the comparative study of machining performance of untreated and microwave treated WC tool inserts used for turning of AISI 1040 steel. Machining performance has been evaluated in terms of flank wear, cutting force, surface roughness, tool wear mechanisms. Critical examinations of tool wear mechanisms and improvements in metallurgical properties such as microstructural change, phase activation of WC grains were identified using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results obtained from the turning using the microwave treated tool inserts showed a significant reduction tool wear thereby enhancing the surface quality of workpiece. 相似文献

Self‐condensation of AB2 type monomers (containing one A‐type and two B‐type functional groups) generates hyperbranched (HB) polymers that carry numerous B ‐type end‐groups at their molecular periphery; thus, development of synthetic methods that directly provide quantitatively transformable peripheral B groups would be of immense value as this would provide easy access to multiply functionalized HB systems. A readily accessible AB2 monomer, namely diallyl, 5‐(4‐hydroxybutoxy)isophthalate was synthesized, which on polymerization under standard melt‐transesterfication conditions yielded a peripherally clickable HB polyester in a single step; the allyl groups were quantitatively reacted with a variety of thiols using the facile photoinitiated “thiol‐ene” reaction to generate a wide range of derivatives, with varying solubility and thermal properties. Furthermore, it is shown that the peripheral allyl double bonds can also be readily epoxidized using meta‐chloroperoxybenzoic acid to yield interesting HB systems, which could potentially serve as a multifunctional cross‐linking agent in epoxy formulations. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The physicochemical properties of crude Nigella seed (Nigella sativa L.) oil which was extracted using Soxhlet, Modified Bligh–Dyer and Hexane extraction methods were determined. The effect of
different extraction methods which includes different parameters, such as temperature, time and solvent on the extraction
yield and the physicochemical properties were investigated. The experimental results showed that temperature, different solvents
and extraction time had the most significant effect on the yield of the Nigella oil extracts. The fatty acid (FA) compositions
of Nigella seed oil were further analyzed by gas chromatography to compare the extraction methods. The C16:0, C18:1 and C18:2
have been identified to be the dominant fatty acids in the Nigella seed oils. However, the main triacylglycerol (TAG) was
LLL followed by OLL and PLL. The FA and TAG content showed that the composition of the Nigella seed oil extracted by different
methods was mostly similar, whereas relative concentration of the identified compounds were apparently different according
to the extraction methods. The melting and crystallization temperatures of the oil extracted by Soxhlet were −2.54 and −55.76 °C,
respectively. The general characteristics of the Nigella seed oil obtained by different extraction methods were further compared.
Where the Soxhlet extraction method was considered to be the optimum process for extracting Nigella seed oil with a higher

The spray atomization and combustion characteristics of canola methyl ester (CME) biofuel are compared to those of petroleum based No. 2 diesel fuel in this paper. The spray flame was contained in an optically accessible combustor which was operated at atmospheric pressure with a co-flow of heated air. Fuel was delivered through a swirl-type air-blast atomizer with an injector orifice diameter of 300 μm. A two-component phase Doppler particle analyzer was used to measure the spray droplet size, axial velocity, and radial velocity distributions. Radial and axial distributions of NO, CO, CO2 and O2 concentrations were also obtained. Axial and radial distributions of flame temperature were recorded with a Pt–Pt/13%Rh (type R) thermocouple. The volumetric flow rates of fuel, atomization air and co-flow air were kept constant for both fuels. The droplet Sauter mean diameter (SMD) at the nozzle exit for CME biofuel spray was smaller than that of the No. 2 diesel fuel spray, implying faster vaporization rates for the former. The flame temperature decreased more rapidly for the CME biofuel spray flame than for the No. 2 diesel fuel spray flame in both axial and radial directions. CME biofuel spray flames produced lower in-flame NO and CO peak concentrations than No. 2 diesel fuel spray flames. 相似文献
