The current energy requirements system used in the United Kingdom for lactating dairy cows utilizes key parameters such as metabolizable energy intake (MEI) at maintenance (MEm), the efficiency of utilization of MEI for 1) maintenance, 2) milk production (kl), 3) growth (kg), and the efficiency of utilization of body stores for milk production (kt). Traditionally, these have been determined using linear regression methods to analyze energy balance data from calorimetry experiments. Many studies have highlighted a number of concerns over current energy feeding systems particularly in relation to these key parameters, and the linear models used for analyzing. Therefore, a database containing 652 dairy cow observations was assembled from calorimetry studies in the United Kingdom. Five functions for analyzing energy balance data were considered: straight line, two diminishing returns functions, (the Mitscherlich and the rectangular hyperbola), and two sigmoidal functions (the logistic and the Gompertz). Meta-analysis of the data was conducted to estimate kg and kt. Values of 0.83 to 0.86 and 0.66 to 0.69 were obtained for kg and kt using all the functions (with standard errors of 0.028 and 0.027), respectively, which were considerably different from previous reports of 0.60 to 0.75 for kg and 0.82 to 0.84 for kt. Using the estimated values of kg and kt, the data were corrected to allow for body tissue changes. Based on the definition of kl as the derivative of the ratio of milk energy derived from MEI to MEI directed towards milk production, MEm and kl were determined. Meta-analysis of the pooled data showed that the average kl ranged from 0.50 to 0.58 and MEm ranged between 0.34 and 0.64 MJ/kg of BW0.75 per day. Although the constrained Mitscherlich fitted the data as good as the straight line, more observations at high energy intakes (above 2.4 MJ/kg of BW0.75 per day) are required to determine conclusively whether milk energy is related to MEI linearly or not. 相似文献

Aqueous solutions of 100 parts per billion (ppb) uranium at pH 7 were treated with granulated activated carbon (GAC) that had been modified with various formulations of hydrophobic aerogels. The composite materials were found to be superior in removing uranium from a stock solution compared to GAC alone evaluated by a modified ASTM D 3860-98 method for batch testing. The testing results were evaluated using a Freundlich adsorption model. The best performing material has parameters of n = 287 and Kf = 1169 compared to n = 1.00, and Kf = 20 for GAC alone. The composite materials were formed by mixing (CH3O)4Si with the hydrophobic sol-gel precursor, (CH3O)3SiCH2CH2CF3 and with specified modifiers, such as H3PO4, Ca(NO3)2, and (C2H5O)3SiCH2CH2P(O)(OC2H5)2, elation catalysts, and GAC in a supercritical reactor system. After gelation, supercritical extraction, and sieving, the composites were tested. Characterization by FTIR and 31P NMR indicate the formation of phosphate in the case of the H3PO4 and Ca(NO3)2 composites and phosphonic acid related compounds in the phosphonate composite. We demonstrate in vivo optical coherence tomography using a Fourier-domain optical delay line constructed with a commercially available polygonal scanner. The 20-faceted polygonal mirror array, capable of scanning at rates up to 15 kHz, is implemented at 4 kHz to acquire 500 x 500 pixel images at 8 frames/s with a signal-to-noise ratio of 80 dB. Features of this delay line include scalability to high repetition rates, 98.6% linearity in group delay over 2 mm, and bandwidth support exceeding 150 nm. Images are obtained in an animal model (Xenopus laevis), and limitations due to phase-delay nonlinearity and polygon asymmetry are discussed. 相似文献

High-level characteristics such as word usage, pronunciation, phonotactics, prosody, etc., have seen a resurgence for automatic speaker recognition over the last several years. With the availability of many conversation sides per speaker in current corpora, high-level systems now have the amount of data needed to sufficiently characterize a speaker. Although a significant amount of work has been done in finding novel high-level features, less work has been done on modeling these features. We describe a method of speaker modeling based upon support vector machines. Current high-level feature extraction produces sequences or lattices of tokens for a given conversation side. These sequences can be converted to counts and then frequencies of n-gram for a given conversation side. We use support vector machine modeling of these n-gram frequencies for speaker verification. We derive a new kernel based upon linearizing a log likelihood ratio scoring system. Generalizations of this method are shown to produce excellent results on a variety of high-level features. We demonstrate that our methods produce results significantly better than standard log-likelihood ratio modeling. We also demonstrate that our system can perform well in conjunction with standard cesptral speaker recognition systems. 相似文献

This research compared adolescent daily smokers (n = 25) and nonsmokers (n = 26) on different measures of impulsivity. Assessments included question-based measures of delay (DDQ) and probability (PDQ) discounting, a measure of behavioral disinhibition (go-stop task), and a self-report measure of impulsivity (Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-Adolescent). Adolescent smokers were more impulsive on the DDQ and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale--Adolescent but not on the PDQ or the go-stop task. However, there was a significant interaction between smoking status and gender on the go-stop task, with male smokers performing less impulsively on this measure than male nonsmokers--an effect not observed with the female adolescents. These findings indicate that adolescents who smoke cigarettes are more impulsive with respect to some, but not all, types of impulsivity than are adolescents who do not smoke. The higher point density and mobility of terrestrial laser scanning (light detection and ranging (lidar)) is desired when extremely detailed elevation data are needed for mapping vertically orientated complex features such as levees, dunes, and cliffs, or when highly accurate data are needed for monitoring geomorphic changes. Mobile terrestrial lidar scanners have the capability for rapid data collection on a larger spatial scale compared with tripod-based terrestrial lidar, but few studies have examined the accuracy of this relatively new mapping technology. For this reason, we conducted a field test at Padre Island National Seashore of a mobile lidar scanner mounted on a sport utility vehicle and integrated with a position and orientation system. The purpose of the study was to assess the vertical and horizontal accuracy of data collected by the mobile terrestrial lidar system, which is georeferenced to the Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system and the North American Vertical Datum of 1988. To accomplish the study objectives, independent elevation data were collected by conducting a high-accuracy global positioning system survey to establish the coordinates and elevations of 12 targets spaced throughout the 12 km transect. These independent ground control data were compared to the lidar scanner-derived elevations to quantify the accuracy of the mobile lidar system. The performance of the mobile lidar system was also tested at various vehicle speeds and scan density settings (e.g. field of view and linear point spacing) to estimate the optimal parameters for desired point density. After adjustment of the lever arm parameters, the final point cloud accuracy was 0.060 m (east), 0.095 m (north), and 0.053 m (height). The very high density of the resulting point cloud was sufficient to map fine-scale topographic features, such as the complex shape of the sand dunes. 相似文献

The temperature dependence of differential gain dG/dn for 1.3-μm InGaAsP-InP FP and DFB lasers with two profiles of p-doping was obtained from RIN measurements within the temperature range of 25°C-65°C. Experiments showed that the change of the active region doping level from 3·1017 cm-3 to 3·1018 cm-3 leads to a 50% increase of the differential gain for FP lasers at 25°C. Heavily doped devices also exhibit more rapid reduction of the differential gain with increasing temperature. The effect of active region doping on the energy separation between the electron Fermi level and electronic states coupled into the laser mode explains the observations. Maya 650°F residuum was mildly prehydrogenated over a standard, commercially available, hydrodesulfurization catalyst. The product was then distilled to yield hydrogenated Maya 650°F residuum. This prehydrogenated residuum, and the untreated Maya 650°F residuum were separately hydroprocessed further at different process severities. The resulting products were then examined by elemental analyses to determine the effects of die prehydrogenation step on overall conversion and product quality.
The primary effect of the prehydrogenation step was to increase the overall conversions for sulfur, MCR, nitrogen, and asphaltenes. As a result, the hydro-conversion products derived from the prehydrogenation were substantially better quality than the corresponding direct hydroconversion products.
