In this paper, a numerical method is proposed for determining complex vibrations modes of sandwich structures with piezoelectric and viscoelastic layers. Based on homotopy and asymptotic numerical techniques, this method leads to the damping properties calculation (loss factor and natural frequency per mode) of the hybrid sandwich structure. The numerical results of the loss factor and natural frequency are compared to those obtained from analytical beam model and from numerical studies the modal strain energy method.  相似文献

The evaluation of the crack tip deformation is essential to the estimation of crack growth under either static or cyclic loading. A 3-D elastic–plastic finite element analysis was developed to simulate the crack tip deformation along mixed mode inclined edge cracks in a steel plate subjected to either monotonic or cyclic loading at selected R-ratios. In this paper, two types of crack configurations were investigated: inclined cracks with equal inclined lengths (EICL) and inclined cracks with equal horizontal projection length (ECHP). The development of the monotonic (Δm) and cyclic (Δc) crack tip plastically zones and the monotonic (CTOD) and cyclic (ΔCTOD) crack tip opening displacements were traced to find the effect of the crack inclination angle, which significantly affected the size and shape of the crack tip plastic zone. The finite element results compared well with the analytical results based on modified Dugdale’s model. It was observed that Mode II has a significant effect on the plastic zone in the case of equal inclined crack length (EICL), i.e., Mode II increases as the crack angle decreases. Also, it is interesting to note that for the EICL case, the magnitude of Δc is delayed to appear with decreasing the inclination angle, for example, for θ?=?90° the cyclic plastic zone appeared at Δσ?=?103.32 MPa, while for θ?=?45° the cyclic plastic zone appeared at Δσ?=?132.84 MPa. Whereas, the variation of monotonic and cyclic plastic zone size in the equal crack horizontal projection (ECHP) case is not affected by the crack inclination angle. Furthermore, it was observed that the static crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) and the cyclic (ΔCTOD) are independent of the crack inclination angle in case of ECHP, due to such cracks take into consideration the effect of inclination angle through its length.  相似文献

Background

Chronic health conditions associated with ageing can lead to changes in driving ability. The Canadian Driving Research Initiative for Vehicular Safety in the Elderly (Candrive II) is a 5-year prospective study funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research aiming to develop an in-office screening tool that will help clinicians identify potentially at-risk older drivers. Currently, no tools exist to directly predict the risk of motor vehicle collision (MVC) in this population. The American Medical Association (AMA), in collaboration with the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, has designed an opinion-based guide for assessing medical fitness to drive in older adults and recommends that physicians use the Assessment of Driving Related Skills (ADReS) as a test battery to measure vision, cognition and motor/somatosensory functions related to driving. The ADReS consists of the Snellen visual acuity test, visual fields by confrontation test, Trail Making Test part B, clock drawing test, Rapid Pace Walk, and manual tests of range of motion and motor strength. We used baseline data from the Candrive/Ozcandrive common cohort of older drivers to evaluate the validity of the ADReS subtests. We hypothesized that participants who crashed in the 2 years before the baseline assessment would have poorer scores on the ADReS subtests than participants who had not crashed.

Methods

In the Candrive/Ozcandrive study, 1230 participants aged 70 years or older were recruited from 7 Canadian cities, 1 Australian city and 1 New Zealand city, all of whom completed a comprehensive clinical assessment at study entry. The assessment included all tests selected as part of the ADReS. For this historical cohort study, data on all crashes (at-fault and non-at-fault) that occurred within 2 years preceding the baseline assessment were obtained from the respective licensing jurisdictions. Those who crashed were compared to those who had not crashed on their ADReS subtest scores using Pearson's chi-squared test and Student's t-test.

Results

Sixty-three of the 1230 participants (5.1%) were involved in an MVC within the 2 years preceding the baseline assessment. Contrary to our hypothesis, there were no statistically significant associations between abnormal performance on the tests constituting the ADReS and history of crash in the previous 2 years (p > 0.01).

Discussion

We found that a history of crash in the previous 2 years was not associated with abnormalities on the subtests comprising the ADReS. This suggests the need for prospective analyses of risk factors over time to establish sensitive, valid predictors of crash that can be incorporated in clinical practice guidelines.  相似文献

Pulsed laser deposition, under dry and water vapor conditions, was employed to synthesize nanostructured hydroxyapatite films by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) of chlorapatite target for the purpose of coating metallic bone implants by this material. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser operating at a wavelength of 1064 nm and emitting 9 ns pulses was used for deposition. AFM microscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, optical microscopy, adhesion and microhardness measurements were conducted to characterize the films. The in vitro test for the synthesized hydroxyapatite was performed using simulated body fluid (SBF). The results showed a successful transformation of the chlorapatite to hydroxyapatite films characterized by all the HAp peaks with 60 nm root mean square roughness, (80–327) nm grain size, and a microhardness of 512 HV.  相似文献

The effect of electrodeposition technique on CdS thickness incorporated in CdS/CdTe-based solar cell has been investigated using all-electrodeposited g/FTO/n-CdS/n-CdTe/p-CdTe multilayer device configuration. The optical, morphological and structural properties of the electroplated CdS were investigated for CdS thicknesses between 50 and 200 nm. The observed CdS bandgap ranges between 2.42 and 2.46 eV. The morphological analysis shows full coverage of underlying g/FTO substrate for all CdS thicknesses except for the 50 nm which shows the presence of gap in-between grains. The structural analysis shows a preferred orientation of H(101) for all the CdS thicknesses except the 50 nm thick CdS which shows either a weak crystallinity or an amorphous nature. The fabricated solar cell shows a maximum conversion efficiency of ~11 % using CdS thickness ranging between 100 and 150 nm. These results show that although low CdS thickness is desirable for photovoltaic application, the effect of nucleation mechanism of deposition technique should be taken into consideration.  相似文献

This paper investigates the quality of environmental impact statements (EISs) and gives us an understanding about the performance of environmental impact assessment (EIA) practice in Bangladesh. EIA has been formally practised in Bangladesh since 1995.However, no study has yet been conducted on the quality of EISs. This study fills this gap. This empirical study shows that the quality of EISs in Bangladesh is ‘just satisfactory’ only. A significant proportion of EISs (34%) are still unsatisfactory. Finally, possible factors affecting the quality of EISs are examined and measures to improve the quality of EISs are recommended. The findings will be useful to EIA practitioners and other stakeholders in Bangladesh. This study will also provide a general guideline for other developing countries with similar socio-economic context.  相似文献

A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain. In children and adults, brain tumor is considered one of the leading causes of death. There are several types of brain tumors, including benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (cancerous) tumors. Diagnosing brain tumors as early as possible is essential, as this can improve the chances of successful treatment and survival. Considering this problem, we bring forth a hybrid intelligent deep learning technique that uses several pre-trained models (Resnet50, Vgg16, Vgg19, U-Net) and their integration for computer-aided detection and localization systems in brain tumors. These pre-trained and integrated deep learning models have been used on the publicly available dataset from The Cancer Genome Atlas. The dataset consists of 120 patients. The pre-trained models have been used to classify tumor or no tumor images, while integrated models are applied to segment the tumor region correctly. We have evaluated their performance in terms of loss, accuracy, intersection over union, Jaccard distance, dice coefficient, and dice coefficient loss. From pre-trained models, the U-Net model achieves higher performance than other models by obtaining 95% accuracy. In contrast, U-Net with ResNet-50 outperforms all other models from integrated pre-trained models and correctly classified and segmented the tumor region.  相似文献

Smart materials are versatile material systems which exhibit a measurable response to external stimuli. Recently, smart material systems have been developed which incorporate graphene in order to share on its various advantageous properties, such as mechanical strength, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity as well as to achieve unique stimuli-dependent responses. Here, a graphene fiber-based smart material that exhibits reversible electrical conductivity switching at a relatively low temperature (60 °C), is reported. Using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation and density functional theory-based non-equilibrium Green's function (DFT-NEGF) approach, it is revealed that this thermo-response behavior is due to the change in configuration of amphiphilic triblock dispersant molecules occurring in the graphene fiber during heating or cooling. These conformational changes alter the total number of graphene-graphene contacts within the composite material system, and thus the electrical conductivity as well. Additionally, this graphene fiber fabrication approach uses a scalable, facile, water-based method, that makes it easy to modify material composition ratios. In all, this work represents an important step forward to enable complete functional tuning of graphene-based smart materials at the nanoscale while increasing commercialization viability.  相似文献

Photodiode-array-based spectrometers are increasingly being used in a wide variety of applications. However, the signal measured by this type of instrument often is not what is anticipated by the user and is often subject to contamination from stray light. This paper describes an efficient and low-cost stray light correction approach based on a relatively simple system using a monochromator-based source. The paper further discusses the limitations of using a monochromator instead of a laser, as used by previous researchers, and its impact on the quality of the stray light correction. The reliability and robustness of the stray light correction matrix generated have been studied and are also reported.  相似文献
