The external loop airlift bubble column has been regarded as a promising type of gas-liquid or gas-liquid-solid biooreactor because of the liquid circulating flow between the riser and downcomer. A mini-scale column is useful and efficient in the process research and development for highly specialized materials such as fine chemicals, advanced bioproducts and biocatalysts utilized in two or three phase system. In this work, a mini-scale glass column of in volume was designed and characterized. The gas holdup εG in the riser was obtained by measuring the volume expansion through photographs taken with a digital camera. The liquid circulating velocity UL was measured by observing the time required for a tracer particle to travel a fixed distance in the downcomer through analysis of the images taken by a video camera. The gas-liquid volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient kLa and liquid-solid oxygen transfer coefficient kS were determined by our previous method in which the air oxidation of glucose was catalysed by the immobilized glucose oxidase gel beads suspended in the column to obtain a pseudo steady state concentration of the dissolved oxygen and the corresponding constant rate of glucose consumption. It was shown that even such a mini-scale external loop bubble column could be characterized in terms of gas holdup, liquid circulating velocity and mass transfer properties according to our previous correlations proposed for the bench to pilot scale column.  相似文献

Ca(PO3)2–AlF3–CaF2–BaF2–BaO glasses were prepared by the melt quenching method, and the effects of the O/P ratio on the optical properties and glass structure were investigated. The bandgap energy showed no significant change at O/P = 3.0–3.4 but drastically decreased with the increase in the O/P from 3.6 to 4.0. In addition, the refractive index dispersion was analyzed based on the Lorentz model, and it was found that the decrease in the resonance frequency in the ultraviolet region with the increase in the O/P ratio resulted in an increase in the refractive index and dispersion. Analysis of the infrared absorption and Raman scattering spectra revealed that the phosphate chains were broken, and isolated Q0 units were generated with the increase in the O/P ratio from 3.6 to 4.0. Based on the structural change of the glass, the origin of the nonlinear dependence of the optical properties on the O/P ratio was discussed.  相似文献

Mitochondrial functional abnormalities or quantitative decreases are considered to be one of the most plausible pathogenic mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Thus, mitochondrial complex inhibitors are often used for the development of experimental PD. In this study, we used rotenone to create in vitro cell models of PD, then used these models to investigate the effects of 1,5-anhydro-D-fructose (1,5-AF), a monosaccharide with protective effects against a range of cytotoxic substances. Subsequently, we investigated the possible mechanisms of these protective effects in PC12 cells. The protection of 1,5-AF against rotenone-induced cytotoxicity was confirmed by increased cell viability and longer dendritic lengths in PC12 and primary neuronal cells. Furthermore, in rotenone-treated PC12 cells, 1,5-AF upregulated peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) expression and enhanced its deacetylation, while increasing AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) phosphorylation. 1,5-AF treatment also increased mitochondrial activity in these cells. Moreover, PGC-1α silencing inhibited the cytoprotective and mitochondrial biogenic effects of 1,5-AF in PC12 cells. Therefore, 1,5-AF may activate PGC-1α through AMPK activation, thus leading to mitochondrial biogenic and cytoprotective effects. Together, our results suggest that 1,5-AF has therapeutic potential for development as a treatment for PD.  相似文献

It has been proposed that bottom-fermenting yeast strains of Saccharomyces pastorianus possess at least two types of genomes. Sequences of genes of one genome [S. cerevisiae (Sc)-type] have been found to be highly homologous (more than 90% identity) to S. cerevisiae S288C sequences, while those of the other [Lager (Lg)-type] are less so. To identify and discriminate Lg-type from Sc-type genes expressed during lager beer fermentation, normalized cDNA libraries were constructed and analysed. From approximately 22 000 ESTs, 3892 Sc-type and 2695 Lg-type ORFs were identified. Expression patterns of Sc- and Lg-type genes did not correlate with particular cell functions in KEGG classification system. Moreover, 405 independent clones were isolated that have no significant homology with sequences in the S288C database, suggesting that they include the bottom-fermenting yeast-specific (BFY) genes. Most of BFY genes have significant homology with the S. bayanus genome.  相似文献

Pseudo-capacitance of composite materials where ruthenium oxide particles are loaded on activated carbon has been evaluated in the electrolyte of 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium tetrafluoroborate dissolved in acetonitrile. The composite materials prepared by conventional a sol-gel method have dispersed structure of ruthenium oxide particle of tens nanometer diameter on the surface of activated carbon. The extent of the pseudo-capacitance of the composite electrodes in the imidazolium salt electrolyte, estimated by the comparison of the capacitance per surface area of electrode in different non-aqueous electrolyte, is ca. 3-5 μF cm−2 in addition to the double-layer capacitance of ca. 6 μF cm−2, depending on the loading status of ruthenium oxide. The symmetric cell consisting of the composite electrode containing 18 wt% of ruthenium oxide and the imidazolium salt electrolyte provides cell capacitance based on the pseudo-capacitance by a constant-current test.  相似文献

Immobilized liposome chromatography was utilized as a novel method for the quantitative evaluation of the interaction between liposome membranes. The capacity factors evaluated from the elution profile showed that interaction between 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) liposome membranes occurred in the presence of a stimuli responsive polymer and protein under specific stimulus conditions. The occurrence of such interaction was supported by experimental results for POPC liposome membrane fusion under corresponding stimuli conditions.  相似文献

ac impedance and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) techniques have been applied to analyze the structure of electric double-layer formed at carbon/organic electrolyte solution interface using a sputtered carbon electrode. The mass changes caused by electrochemical adsorption (accumulation) of ions have been estimated in the solutions of propylene carbonate (PC) dissolving tetrafluoroborate (BF4) salts of lithium (Li+), tetraethylammonium (TEA+) and tetra-n-butylammonium (TBA+) cations. The observed mass changes during the cathodic polarization in the solutions containing TEA+ and TBA+ were well consistent with those expected by the calculation based on mono-layer adsorption of the cations with giving the consideration to the surface roughness. On the other hand, the mass change observed in the solution containing Li+ salt showed that the solvation of Li+ with three or four molecules of PC would be the charge compensation species at the interface. Comparison of the quantity of the electricity passed during the EQCM measurements with that from theoretical calculation with simple Helmholtz-layer model revealed that the major part of the double-layer capacitance would be based on the electrostatic polarization of the solvent molecule directly adsorbed at the carbon surface.  相似文献

The characteristics of breakdown voltages against the position of floating metallic particles in atmospheric air are investigated experimentally. The breakdown mechanism is estimated on the basis of electric field calculation and visual observation of discharges at different voltages and a set of flow charts for calculation of breakdown voltage is proposed. The studied gaps are needle-to-plane and sphere-to-sphere electrodes of 120 mm in length forming Poissonian and Laplacian fields respectively and the shape of tested floating objects is a needle or sphere. The theoretical breakdown voltages obtained by the flow charts agree reasonably with the experimental ones  相似文献
