At present, the greatest source of uncertainty in the global carbon cycle is in the terrestrial ecosystems. In order to reduce these uncertainties it is necessary to provide consistent and accurate global estimates of the world forest biomass. One of the most promising methods for obtaining such estimates is through polarimetric SAR backscatter measurements at low frequencies. In this paper, the relation between polarimetric SAR backscatter at L- and P-bands and forest biomass is investigated using data acquired within the BioSAR-I campaign in southern Sweden during 2007. Methods for estimating biomass on stand level using these data are developed and evaluated, and the results for the two frequency bands are compared. For L-band data, the best results were obtained using HV-polarized backscatter only, giving estimation errors in terms of root mean square errors (RMSE) between 31% and 46% of the mean biomass for stands with biomass ranging from 10 to 290 t/ha, and an (adjusted) coefficient of determination (R2) between 0.4 and 0.6. For P-band data, the results are better than for L-band. Models using HV- or HH-polarized P-band backscatter give similar results, as does a model including both HV and HH. The RMSEs were between 18 and 27%, and the R2 values were between 0.7 and 0.8.  相似文献

A Pol-InSAR dataset acquired at P-band over a maritime pine forest (Nezer forest of Landes, France) has been investigated and compared with tree structural ground measurements in order to identify scatterers associated with elementary scattering mechanisms in the canopy layer. Since this managed forest is constituted by different height stands, it allows to investigate mechanism change in the vertical direction during the forest growth. It has been observed that VV channel was the most elevated, which can be accounted for a maximum attenuation in the vertical direction and partially for the presence of sub-vertical branches in the top canopy layer, and that this channel was the most sensitive to the tree density in reason of an important ground reflectivity. The most pure double-bounce scattering mechanism component is received in HH-VV channel where the corresponding phase center reaches the ground level for large Diameter at Breast Height. It is also supposed that HH channel, which receives double bounce backscatter, was affected by the sub-horizontal primary branch development, which induces an elevation of the phase center over oldest trees while tree density diminution enhances backscatter from the ground level. Finally, the crosspolar channel appeared the less perturbed by the tree density than VV channel since it receives predominantly the canopy contribution.  相似文献

In this work, the effect of natural climatic aging on two ropes made from polyamide 6 (PA6) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) was evaluated. Samples of rope from both materials underwent a continuous outdoor aging treatment spanning 6 months in Montreal's weather. Tensile tests carried out on aged PA6 ropes showed an increase in ultimate strain and a decrease in breaking force when compared with as‐received values, while PET ropes exhibited a slight increase in ultimate strain as their breaking force remained unchanged. FTIR analyses of aged PET samples revealed a new absorption band in the hydroxyl region ascribed to the ? OH stretching vibrations of carboxylic acid end groups. FTIR quantitative analyses of the absorption bands in the carbonyl region of aged PA6 spectra displayed an increase in intensity that indicates the occurrence of chemical degradation reactions. The degree of crystallinity of PA6, calculated from differential scanning calorimetry data, was found to increase after the weathering treatment, a result confirmed by X‐ray diffraction analyses. The higher crystalline fraction is believed to entail an increase in the density of PA6 fibers, which give rise to the length reduction seen in PA6 ropes after the aging treatment. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. L- and P-band airborne polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data acquired by the RAMSES system over different height maritime pine (Pinus Pinaster Ait.) stands of the Nezer forest (Landes, France) have been evaluated for forest biophysical parameter estimation. A pseudolinear correlation has been brought to evidence at P-band between polarimetric anisotropy and mean tree height, which is also linked to other biophysical parameters in the Nezer forest, meaning that SAR polarimetry constitutes a promising tool for forest parameter retrieval at low frequency. The spatial conditions have been evaluated through the quantification of the impact of signal-to-noise ratio diminution and resolution degradation on the forest height inversion. It has been shown that the inversion accuracy remains acceptable for N Esigma0, representing the noise level of the SAR image, which is lower than -15 dB, and for spatial resolution increasing up to 15 m.  相似文献

Aging-related salivary dysfunction commonly induces the poor oral health, including decreased saliva flow and dental caries. Although the clinical significance of the salivary glands is well-known, the complex metabolic pathways contributing to the aging-dysfunction process are only beginning to be uncovered. Here, we provide a comprehensive overview of the metabolic changes in aging-mediated salivary gland dysfunction as a key aspect of oral physiology. Several metabolic neuropeptides or hormones are involved in causing or contributing to salivary gland dysfunction, including hyposalivation and age-related diseases. Thus, aging-related metabolism holds promise for early diagnosis, increased choice of therapy and the identification of new metabolic pathways that could potentially be targeted in salivary gland dysfunction.  相似文献

Abstract

The paper deals with the nonlinear buckling analysis of imperfect cylindrical shells made of porous metal foam subjected to axial compression. For the metal foam shells, porosities are dispersed by uniform, symmetric, and asymmetric distributions in the thickness direction. Using Donnell shell theory and von-Karman nonlinear kinematics, nonlinear equilibrium equations are derived. The critical buckling load and buckling equilibrium curves for both perfect and imperfect shells are solved by using the Galerkin's procedure. A comprehensive investigation into the influence of porosity coefficient, imperfections, porosity distribution, and geometry on the buckling behaviors of the cylindrical shell is performed.  相似文献

The derivation of leaf area index (LAI) from satellite optical data has been the subject of a large amount of work. In contrast, few papers have addressed the effective model inversion of high resolution satellite images for a complete series of data for the various crop species in a given region. The present study is focused on the assessment of a LAI model inversion approach applied to multitemporal optical data, over an agricultural region having various crop types with different crop calendars. Both the inversion approach and data sources are chosen because of their wide use. Crops in the study region (Barrax, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain) include: cereal, corn, alfalfa, sugar beet, onion, garlic, papaver. Some of the crop types (onion, garlic, papaver) have not been addressed in previous studies. We use in-situ measurement sets and literature values as a priori data in the PROSPECT + SAIL models to produce Look Up Tables (LUTs). Those LUTs are subsequently used to invert Landsat-TM and Landsat-ETM+ image series (12 dates from March to September 2003). The Look Up Tables are adapted to different crop types, identified on the images by ground survey and by Landsat classification. The retrieved LAI values are compared to in-situ measurements available from the campaign conducted in mid July-2003. Very good agreement (a high linear correlation) is obtained for LAI values from 0.1 to 6.0. LAI maps are then produced for each of the 12 dates. The LAI temporal variation shows consistency with the crop phenological stages. The inversion method is favourably compared to a method relying on the empirical relationship between LAI and NDVI from Landsat data. This offers perspectives for future optical satellite data that will ensure high resolution and high temporal frequency.  相似文献
