Our investigation of normal, hyperplastic, and neoplastic prostatic tissue during the past 2 1/2 years has produced several findings which have been published or accepted for publication. (a) Cells from hamster prostates with intense histochemically demonstrable acid phosphatase activity (HDAP) after fixation with formaldehyde which we believe to be epithelial cells can be obtained in 97.2% +/- 0.8% purity by velocity sedimentation in a previously described isokinetic density gradient; (b) similarly, cells with HDAP, many of which contain lipofuscin granules, can be obtained as 81.0% +/- 12.2% of nucleated cells from hyperplastic human prostates and as 86.4% +/- 9.4% of nucleated cells from human prostatic carcinomas; (c) more cells were obtained from human hyperplastic prostates and prostates with prostatic carcinoma per gram of tissue with the aid of Pronase than were obtained with trypsin, collagenase, or mechanical methods; (d) more cells per gram of tissue were obtained from surgically removed prostates than from prostates obtained at even very rapid autopsies, and a much larger proportion of the cells from surgically removed prostates were viable as assessed both by dye exclusion and by plating efficiency; (e) none of several substrates and inhibitors which we tested were highly specific for acid phosphatase from purified prostatic epithelial cells compared with several other kinds of purified human cells; and (f) purified hamster prostatic epithelial cells incorporate large amounts of tritiated thymidine in 72-hour cultures.  相似文献

A national anti-echinococcosis campaign was started in 1971, in which education of the public, the control of dogs and the control of slaughter were emphasised. The campaign has already achieved almost total elimination of infection in food animals born subsequent to its initiation. Stray dogs are rare and all others are registered and examined three or four times a year. Infection in dogs has decreased by over 80 per cent (from 6-8 in 1972 to 1-1 in 1976). Legislation governing abattoir functioning and dog control is in force. Violation of legislation is penalised, although the level of awareness of the problem by the public, who co-operate willingly, does not often warrant this.  相似文献

The concentration of 67Ga in the milk of a postpartum woman was measured at intervals up to 8 days after the injection of 3 mCi of 67Ga-citrate. The 67Ga concentration was about 0.15 muCi/ml at 3 days after injection and fell to 0.035 muCi/ml by 8 days. Since the biologic clearance of gallium was slow (T1/2 approximately 9 days), the major determinant of the clearance of radioactivity was the physical decay of the gallium. An estimate of the radiation dose to a nursing infant suggests that nursing be interrupted for about 2 weeks after the mother has had a 67Ga study.  相似文献

Action of sulphur containing inhibitors on the corrosion of 63/37 brass in trichloroacetic acid Trichloroacetic acid is highly corrosive to brass. Sodium thioglycolate, sodium diethyl dithio carbamate and carbon disulphide have been studied as corrosion inhibitors for brass (63/37) in trichloroacetic acid. The inhibitive power of sulphur-containing organic compounds is due to chelate formation, the chelate adhering strongly to the metal surface. The carbamate turns out to be a good inhibitor of the corrosion of brass (80/20 and 59/41) in 0.5 N sodium chloride, 1.0 n sodium hydroxide and buffer solutions (NaOH and citric acid, pH 4.4-6.0). The inhibiting effect depends on inhibitor concentration, so that in some cases corrosion may even be stimulated. The inhibitor effect is attributed to the formation of insoluble complexes with the two alloy components.  相似文献

Few studies have combined molecular- and macroscopic-scale investigations with surface complexation model (SCM) development to predict trace metal speciation and partitioning in aqueous systems over a broad range of conditions. In this work, an extensive collection of new macroscopic and spectroscopic data was used to assess the ability of the modified triple-layer model (TLM) to predict single-solute lead(II [Pb(II)] sorption onto 2-line ferrihydrite in NaNO3 solutions as a function of pH, ionic strength, and concentration. Regression of constant-pH isotherm data together with potentiometric titration and pH edge data was a much more rigorous test of the TLM than fitting pH edge data alone. When combined with spectroscopic data, the choices of feasible surface species/site types were limited to a few. In agreement with the spectroscopic data, very good fits of the isotherm data were obtained with a two-species, one-site model using the bidentate-mononuclear/monodentate-mononuclear species pairs, ((is equivalent)FeO)2Pb/(is equivalent)FeOHPb2+ and ((is equivalent)FeO)2Pb/ (is equivalent)FeOPb+-NO3-. Regressing edge data in the absence of isotherm and spectroscopic data resulted in a fair number of surface-species/site-type combinations that provided acceptable fits of the edge data but unacceptable fits of the isotherm data. Surprisingly, best-fit equilibrium "constants" for the Pb(II) surface complexes required adjustment outside the pH range of 4.5-5.5 in order to fit the isotherm data. In addition, a surface activity term was needed to reduce the ionic strength dependence of sorption forthe species pair, ((is equivalent)FeO)2Pb/(is equivalent)FeOHPb2+. In light of this, the ability of existing SCMs to predict Pb(II) sorption onto 2-line ferrihydrite over a wide range of conditions seems questionable. While many advances have been made over the past decade, much work still needs to be done in fine-tuning the thermodynamic framework and databases for the SCMs.  相似文献
