The optical recording of the conditions at the tips of dynamically moving cracks is often associated with a wave pattern which arises from what we call here radial waves. This observation is prevalent for tough solids, especially when the observation tools involve surface deformations such as the caustic method. These waves can modify the caustic shape and size and thus influence the interpretation of measurements. The quantification of the sources of these waves poses a very difficult problem so that a precise evaluation of that phenomenon is not yet possible. However, in an attempt to better understand the limitation imposed on the method of caustics by this set of waves this paper analyzes primarily the change of shape in the caustic associated with the passage of radial waves over the region of the initial curve of the caustic. The analysis is approximate in that the radial waves are assumed to be insensitive to the presence of the crack surfaces, but otherwise accounts for the three dimensional character of wave propagation in a plate of finite thickness.
Résumé On associe souvent l'enregistrement optique des conditions présentes à l'extrémité de fissures en cours de propagation spectaculaire, à une disposition ondulée, due à ce que l'on dénomme ici des ondes radiales. L'observation vaut surtout pour les corps à haute ténacité, et en particulier lorsque les méthodes d'observation tiennent compte des déformations de surface, comme la méthode des caustiques. Les ondes radiales peuvent altérer la forme et la dimension d'une caustique, et, de ce fait, influencer l'interprétation des mesures. Une évaluation précise de ce phénomène n'est pas encore possible, car la quantification des sources de ces ondes pose un problème trés délicat. Néanmoins, en vue de mieux comprendre les limites qu'impose à la méthode des caustiques la formation de ces ondes, on a analysé essentiellement le changement de forme de la caustique lorsque se développent des ondes radiales sur la région couverte par la courbe originale de la caustique. On procède à une approximation dans la mesure où on suppose que les ondes radiales sont insensibles à la présence des surfaces de la fissure, mais prennent par ailleurs en considération le caractère tridimensionnel de la propagation d'une fissure dans une plaque d'épaisseur finie.相似文献

The volume integral method of eddy-current modeling represents a flaw in metal as a set of electric dipoles located within volume elements or cells defining the flaw volume. Given this dipole distribution, impedance changes may be computed. The electric field of the dipole distribution is determined by an integral equation relating, by means of the electric field Green's tensor, the electric field due to the source to the total electric field in the flaw. The integral equation is solved by assuming that the total electric field is constant in each volume element, resulting in a matrix equation. The method has been programmed for use on a microcomputer. The method and computer program are verified using the analytical solution for a small spherical flaw and three sets of measured impedance data, measured by air-core coils along profiles overlying both surface-breaking and buried simulated flaws of known dimensions. Operating frequencies ranged between 900 and 4000 Hz. Generally agreement is good at lower frequencies ( 1000 Hz). At higher frequencies ( 4000 Hz), the agreement is not as good. This is thought to be due to the inability of the constant electric field approximation to model the steep electric field gradients present in the host metal at high frequency. The status of magnetostatic wave (MSW) straight-edge resonators (SERs) and their applications in tunable oscillator circuits are reviewed. The resonators are based on magnetostatic waves propagating in high-Q cavities fabricated in thin ferrimagnetic yttrium iron garnet (YIG) films. The resonance frequency of these resonators can be tuned using a bias magnetic field. The theory of operation and design criteria for the straight-edge resonators are described with emphasis on the effect of the resonator parameters on the tuning range, power handling, and phase noise performance. The use of the SER as the frequency-selective element in oscillator circuits is reported. Examples of tunable oscillators are included. 相似文献

Rapidly solidified metal matrix composites have been produced on a laboratory scale either by (1) melt spinning a composite after introduction of the ceramic phase and extrusion of the flakes obtained, or (2) blending melt-spun powder (basic alloy) with the ceramic phase and subsequent extrusion. AlMg(Si) alloys were used as matrix material while SiC particles with diameters of 3 or 20 m were used as the ceramic phase. For the composites prepared by route 1 it was found that the basic alloy was reinforced by the addition of 3 m particles whereas for the 20m particles reinforcement was observed only for very ductile matrices. The bond between SiC particles and matrix was good. A diffusion and wetting bond was formed. For the composites prepared by route 2 it was found that reinforcement did not occur and that the bond between particles and matrix was weak. Debonding of the particles took place in the case of tensile fracture. The advantage of a rapidly solidified matrix for these composites is that relatively high ductilities are combined with good reinforcement effects. Prior contact of the ceramic phase and the aluminium melt is needed for a good bond between SiC and the matrix material. It is concluded that route 1 should be preferred for the production of rapidly solidified aluminium matrix composites. 相似文献

The grain boundary embrittlement in Cu-AI-Ni-phase alloys has been investigated. The study included both the bulk alloys and rapidly solidified ribbons. It was observed that the fracture characteristics and the phase transformations in rapidly solidified ribbons were similar to those in the bulk alloys. Various factors responsible for intergranular fracture were considered. It was found that intrinsic or extrinsic precipitates at the grain boundaries are not responsible for the embrittlement. It was further observed that the segregation of impurities does not occur at the grain boundaries and hence is not a factor contributing to the embrittlement. The intrinsic characteristics, however, appear to play an important role. These may include high elastic anisotropy, ordered structure and plastic incompatibility. Severe embrittlement in high-nickel alloys is associated with spinodal decomposition occurring in these alloys. The large grain size exhibited by these alloys is found not to be a significant factor contributing to the embrittlement. 相似文献

Thermodynamic studies of the non-stoichiometric iron doped beta-alumina (ID) phase were carried out by electrochemical measurements coupled with coulometric titration using the cell Naliq/Li-alumina/ID. Hot pressing and glass sealing techniques were developed and employed to obtain a suitable and stable Li-alumina/ID interface. The equilibrium e.m.f. of the cell was determined as a function of sodium concentration over the temperature range 444 to 523 K. In Part 1 and Part 2 of this paper the preparation of linear polyethylene (PE)-carbon black processed composites with conducting electrical properties was examined by means of elongation flow injection moulding. Mould geometry was optimized in the form of oriented double-armed bars so as to give enhanced mechanical properties combined with a high degree of electrical homogeneity. The present paper deals with composites using a high molecular weight PE matrix. It is shown that the injection-moulded composite material exhibits not only a lower percolation threshold, c, than the conventionally pressure-moulded isotropic sample, but also conductivities two to three orders of magnitude larger than the latter. The radial and axial conductivity profiles, for concentrations well above c, are discussed in the light of the molecular orientation variations across the bars as determined by birefringence. A segregation of primary filler particles, during flow-induced orientation, into axial channels has been shown to explain the enhancement of conductivity detected in the injected mouldings. In addition, for filler concentrations near 7%, -profile analysis indicates the development of a uniform conductive-stiff inner cylinder, several millimetres wide, homogeneously extending along the full length of the injected material. 相似文献

Ionic flow associated with neural activation of the brain produces a magnetic field, called the neuromagnetic field, that can be measured outside the head using a highly sensitive superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID)-based neuromagnetometer. Under certain conditions, the sources producing the neuromagnetic field can be localized from a sampling of the neuromagnetic field. Neuromagnetic measurements alone, however, do not contain sufficient information to visualize brain structure. Thus, it is necessary to combine neuromagnetic localization with an anatomical imaging technique such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to visualize both function and anatomy in vivo. Using experimentally measured human neuromagnetic fields and magnetic resonance images, the authors have developed a technique to register accurately these two modalities and have applied the registration procedure to portray the spatiotemporal distribution of neural activity evoked by auditory stimulation. 相似文献

Identification and evaluation of volatile compounds of vacuum and modified atmosphere packaged beef strip loins 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Beef strip loins were packaged and stored for up to 28 days at 3°C in high-oxygen barrier film under vacuum and in 100% CO(2), 40% CO(2)/60% N(2) and 20% CO(2)/80% O(2). As storage progressed, loins packaged and stored in 20% CO(2)/80% O(2) developed strong off-odors. 1-hexene, methyl thiirane, ethyl acetate, benzene and 1-heptene were detected in these packaged loins beginning at 7 to 14 days of storage. With the exception of 1-hexene, these compounds were not consistently detected in loins stored in vacuum, in 100% CO(2), or in 40% CO(2)/60% N(2), and these packaged loins developed much less off-odor during storage than loins packaged and stored in 20% CO(2)/80% O(2). A large number of volatile compounds from the headspace of the packaged loins originated from the packaging material. Lactobacillus plantarum became the dominant flora on loins stored under vacuum and under 40% CO(2)/60% N(2) while Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. mesenteroides predominated in loins stored in 100% CO(2). Pseudomonas putida eventually dominated on loins stored in 20% CO(2)/80% O(2). 相似文献
