Thunderstorm generated gust fronts are responsible for various degrees of structural damage in many areas of the world. However, the resulting impact of gust front winds is not fully understood to such a level that their flow kinematics, dynamics and impact on structures can be quantified with some certainty. Gust front winds are transient in nature and have a flow profile which differs significantly from a typical boundary layer flow field. This study focuses on investigating the effects of this flow profile and its transient nature on the aerodynamics of bluff, prismatic bodies. A gust front type flow field is generated using a multiple fan wind tunnel and the resulting surface pressures are captured on a suite of prismatic models, which vary in size in relationship to the oncoming wind profile. The temporal variations in surface pressures are analyzed using traditional time, frequency and time-frequency domain schemes. Results indicate the changing nature of the surface pressure field in time, highlighting both qualitative and quantitative differences between local and area-averaged pressures under a host of flow profiles.  相似文献

We analyzed the dietary fish and marine mammal oil supplements purchased from Japanese markets for hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD); 20 brands were analyzed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS). HBCD was detected in 15 of 22 samples, and the concentrations of all the HBCD isomers (α, β, and γ) ranged from <0.9 to 67 ng/g lipid weight. α-HBCD was the dominant residue among the HBCD isomers. However, the composition of HBCD isomers varied according to the sample type. We found that 1 sardine oil brand and 2 shark liver oil brands extracted from fish captured in seawater around Japan contained relatively high levels of HBCD, indicating that both the surface and deep seawaters around Japan may have been contaminated with HBCD.  相似文献

In Japan, the research and development on the High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs) had been carried out for more than fifteen years since 1969 as the multi-purpose Very High Temperature gas-cooled Reactor (VHTR) program for direct utilization of nuclear process heat such as nuclear steel making. Recently, reflecting the change of the social and energy situation and with less incentives for industries to introduce such in the near future, the JAERI changed the program to a more basic ‘HTTR program’ to establish and upgrade the HTGR technology basis.The HTTR is a test reactor with a thermal output of 30 MW and reactor outlet coolant temperature of 950°C, employing a pin-in-block type fuel block, and has the capability to demonstrate nuclear process heat utilization using an intermediate heat exchanger. Since 1986 a detailed design has been made, in which major systems and components are determined in line with the HTTR concept, paying essential considerations into the design for achieving the reactor outlet coolant temperature of 950°C. The safety review of the Government started in February 1989. By request of the Science and Technology Agency the Reactor Safety Research Association reviewed the safety evaluation guideline, general design criteria, design code and design guide for the graphite and the high-temperature structure of the HTTR.The installation permit of the HTTR was issued by the Government in November 1990.  相似文献

Abstract— The growth characteristics of small fatigue cracks were investigated under rotary bending in a high tensile strength steel, and the critical crack length above which linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) is applicable was evaluated systematically from the results of the present study and previous studies in which two steels having different microstructures and strengths were used. It is found that the critical crack length extends over two regions each exhibiting different growth mechanisms. These regions of microstructurally small cracks and mechanically small cracks are found to be a unique function of the microstructural unit size and the yield strength of the materials, respectively. Therefore, using these relationships, it is possible to estimate the critical crack length for a given material.  相似文献

Regression models often suffer from multicollinearity that greatly reduces the reliability of estimated coefficients and hinders an appropriate understanding of the role of independent variables. It occurs in regional science especially when independent variables include the distances from urban facilities. This paper proposes a new method for deriving the configuration of sample points that reduces multicollinearity in regression models with distance variables. Multicollinearity is evaluated by the maximum absolute correlation coefficient between distance variables. A spatial optimization technique is utilized to calculate the optimal configuration of sample points. The method permits us not only to locate sample points appropriately but also to evaluate the location of facilities from which the distance is measured in terms of the correlation between distance variables in a systematic way. Numerical experiments and empirical applications are performed to test the validity of the method. The results support the technical soundness of the proposed method and provided some useful implications for the design of sample location.  相似文献

To analyze the wind-induced response of structures, wind tunnel tests are often carried out to determine the wind loads on structures. However, due to the influence of similarity requirements in wind tunnel tests, the resulting data from the model test still needs to be translated by similarity rules for predicting the real loads on prototype structures. During this process, an inevitable result is that the high-frequency components of fluctuating wind loads get lost, which leads to some unexpected errors in the subsequent wind-induced response analysis. To solve this problem, a frequency compensation method is put forward. The purpose of this method is to reconstruct the high-frequency part of fluctuating wind loads based on experimental data and some basic principles of the aerodynamics of bluff bodies. The causes and effects of the frequency compensation problem are discussed first, then a practical method of frequency compensation is proposed by combining the fluctuating wind energy spectrum theory and the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition technique. Based on this method, the wind-induced response of a single-layer reticulated shell is analyzed to show the validity and necessity of this method.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the parathyroid gland (PTG) of the UM-X7.1 cardiomyopathic hamster (the UM-X7.1) was qualitatively and quantitatively compared with that of the normal hamster. In the UM-X7.1, the Golgi apparatus and rER were well developed compared with those of the control hamster. Morphometric analysis revealed that the mean values of the Golgi apparatus, rER and large vacuolar bodies were significantly greater in the UM-X7.1 than in the normal hamster and the mean value of lipid droplets was significantly less in the UM-X7.1 than in the normal hamster. Ultrastructurally, we consider that in the UM-X7.1, the synthesis and release of the parathyroid hormone may be activated by an excessive amount of circulating catecholamine, and the functional activity of the PTG may be higher than that in the normal hamster.  相似文献

Within this analysis we determine the optimal size (that is, with the minimum average cost) of a water supply enterprise and reconsider the matter of scale economies, using sample data from Japanese water supply organizations. After surveying evidence from previous studies of scale economies in the water supply industry, we estimate cost functions with three different cost models: the log-linear, translog and translog with a hedonic function. We obtain the result that economies of network density do exist, but that there are slight diseconomies of scale at the sample mean point. Separation of matrix metals in composites was tried on alumina short fiber-reinforced aluminum and 6061 alloy composites and SiC whisker-reinforced 6061 alloy composite for recycling. It is possible to separate molten matrix metals from fibers in the composites using fluxes that are used for melt treatment to remove inclusions. About 50 vol pct of the matrix metals was separated from the alumina short fiber-reinforced composites. The separation ratio of the matrix from the SiC whisker-reinforced 6061 alloy composite was low and about 20 vol pct. The separation mechanism was discussed thermodynamically using interface free energies. Since the flux/fiber interface energy is smaller than the aluminum/fiber interface energy, the replacement of aluminum with fluxes in composites takes place easily. Gases released by the decomposition of fluxes act an important role in pushing out the molten matrix metal from the composite. The role was confirmed by the great amount cavity formed in the composite after the matrix metal flowed out.  相似文献
