Mothers' Affect in the Homework Context: The Importance of Staying Positive.

This research investigated mothers' affect in the context of children's homework. Mothers (N=109) of children 8 to 12 years old were interviewed daily about their affect while interacting with children, their assistance with children's homework, and children's behavior while completing homework. At this time and 6 months later, children's motivational and emotional functioning was assessed. Although mothers' negative affect was lower than their positive affect, it was elevated on days their assistance with homework was high. This was accounted for by mothers' perceptions of children as helpless on days they provided heightened assistance. Mothers' positive affect in the homework context buffered children's motivational and emotional functioning against mothers' negative affect as well as children's helplessness. Control System of Neutral Beam Injection on HT-7

Neutral Beam Injection control system (NBICS) is constructed to measure the plasma current, Magnet current, vacuum pressure, cryopump temperature, control water cooling, filament voltage, and power supply， etc. The NBICS, consisting mainly of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) subsystem, data acquisition and processing subsystem and cryopump and vacuum pressure monitoring subsystem, has successfully been used on a NBI device. In this article, the design of NBICS on HT-7 is discussed and each subsystem is described in particular.In addition, some experimental results are reported which are very important data for further research related to the HT-7 tokamak.     

Effect of aging at 700 °C on precipitation and toughness of AISI 321 and AISI 347 austenitic stainless steel welds

A detailed knowledge of changes in microstructures and mechanical behaviour that occur in austenitic stainless steels with or without Nb/Ti-stabilized weld during heat treatment is of great interest, since the ductility and toughness of the material may change drastically after long aging times. Two kinds of materials, i.e. AISI 321 base and without Ti-stabilized weld steel and AISI 347 base with Nb-stabilized weld steel, were compared during aging at 700 °C up to 6000 h. Both materials present increased amount of precipitate and decreased impact energy as the aging time increases. The decreased extent of impact energy with aging is almost the same for both base materials. However, it presents differences for 347 and 321 weld samples. The latter shows a more drastic decrease of impact energy than the former due to the different amount of precipitates. 321 weld sample precipitates more numerously than 347 weld sample due to the absence of stabilized Ti/Nb on the former. Large amount of carbides is formed on 321 weld sample immediately after welding. The carbides are transformed to sigma phase, which is mainly responsible for the much more sigma phase precipitation compared with other samples, after high-temperature aging. The fractographs showed, in general, brittle fracture mode in 321 weld impact-fractured specimens after aging at 700 °C for 6000 h. However, other samples show ductile fracture mode in general. Several approaches should be employed to control sigma phase precipitation in weld material. These approaches include: decreasing content of ferrite and M₂₃C₆ carbide in weld and selecting Nb added weld wire during welding.     

The pumping performances of the turbomoleculae pump simulated by direct simulation monte carlo method

Turbomolecular pumps (TMPs) are used extensively in several highly important areas of industry and research. The performances of TMP are evaluated by maximum throughput and maximum pressure ratio. In this paper, they are investigated by DSMC method. A 3D analysis in a rotating reference frame is proposed to simulate this flow field. Considering the Coriolis and centrifugal accelerations, the equations about the molecular velocities and position are deduced. The VSS model and NTC collision schemes are used to calculate the intermolecular collisions. The diffuse reflection is employed on the molecular reflection from the surfaces of boundary. The procedures for establishment of the correct collision rate are based on the cells, while individual collision pairs are chosen from the sub-cells. The pump performances of one stage TMP under the different kinds of gas, different heights, and different blade angles are simulated and the results are analyzed. Numerical results agree well with the existing experiment data.

A refined beam theory based on the refined plate theory

Summary Based on the refined plate theory, a refined theory of rectangular beams is derived by using the Papkovich-Neuber solution and Lur’e method without ad hoc assumptions. It is shown that the displacements and stresses of the beam can be represented by the angle of rotation and the deflection of the neutral surface. The solutions based on the new theory are the same as the exact solutions of elasticity theory. In three examples it is shown that the new theory provides as good or better results than Levinson’s beam theory when compared to those obtained from the linear theory of elasticity.     

Investigation of failure mechanism and modification for film-lubricated precise angular-contact ball bearing

This paper describes an experimental investigation into the performance and lubrication failure mechanism of precise angular-contact ball bearings treated with MoS₂-sputtered film, etc. As an important executive component of various spacecrafts, there are some strict requirements on the lubrication performance of angular-contact ball bearing, but the related experimental data are rare to see in literatures. In this experiment, the lubrication performances of MoS₂-sputtered ball bearing pairs were evaluated by using lifetime test as a main method, and the topographies and compositions of working surfaces were investigated through SEM, AES and EDS. The systematical experiment results reveal that the degradation and failure process of solid lubrication for such ball bearing is divided into three stages with different characters. A supposed failure mechanism has been proposed. An improved lubrication treatment based on above mechanism was conducted for the precise ball bearings, and a later test showed that long endurance life with more than 10⁸ revolutions has been reached.
