Discusses 2 interrelated traditions as they are reflected in contemporary and traditional approaches to psychotherapy in Japan. One uses various meditational and self-focusing instructional sets whose common goal is to facilitate the slowing down, deepening, and clearer focusing of sensory and interpersonal awareness. The 2nd tradition focuses on physical self-regulation and autonomic self-control through exercises that foster enhanced voluntary control over physical states and processes. Eastern psychology offers a set of practices that help the individual overcome the inherent selfishness of his/her isolated experience. A new leaky-wave antenna is presented that possesses many desirable features and is suitable for application to both the millimeter-wave and microwave ranges. These desirable features, some of which are unusual, include a simple configuration, a wide flexibility in the range of available beamwidths, the ability to control the beamwidth and the direction of the beam essentially independently, and negligible cross polarization at all scan angles. The antenna structure consists of a parallel-plate stub guide of small height, less than a half wavelength, located off center on the top of rectangular waveguide. The beamwidth is easily controlled from very wide to very narrow by adjusting the stub width or location. A series of Mo–TiC alloys were heated in vacuum at 2473 K for 36 ks. First grain growth behavior was observed using a scanning electron microscope. Then effects of TiC addition on the strengths and ductility at low temperature were discussed from the viewpoints of chemical composition and grain structure.
Materials with TiC additions of not larger than 0.1% demonstrated a single-crystalline grain structure. Both yield and maximum strengths increased by TiC addition and consequently ductility was improved. 相似文献

Complement activation generally does not occur on homologous cells. We observed C3 deposition on cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) when those which had died of apoptosis were treated with human serum. The C3 deposition on apoptotic HUVEC required Mg2+ but not Ca2+. In addition, the incubation of apoptotic HUVEC with purified C3, B, and D in the presence of Mg2+ resulted in C3 deposition. These results indicated that the C3 deposition on apoptotic HUVEC is mediated by the activation of the alternative complement pathway. C3 contains an intrachain thioester bond in the alpha chain (110 kDa) and upon activation to C3b, binds with membrane molecules by forming an ester or amide bond. Western blotting of reduced C3b-membrane molecule complexes, isolated from serum-treated apoptotic HUVEC by immunoprecipitation with anti-C3, revealed the covalent binding of C3b to several membrane molecules. Most of the C3b-membrane molecule complexes were cleaved by hydroxylamine, suggesting covalent binding via an ester bond. The molecular mass of the major alpha chain fragment released by hydroxylamine treatment was not 105 kDa but 68 kDa, which corresponds to the alpha 1 fragment of iC3b. These results indicate that most of the C3b on HUVEC was cleaved at its alpha' chain to yield iC3b, which consists of three disulfide-linked polypeptide chains and is a ligand of the complement receptor type 3 (CR3) of phagocytes. These results suggest that apoptotic HUVEC can activate the alternative pathway of the homologous complement and that the complement is related to the clearance of apoptotic cells by phagocytes. 相似文献

Electric power systems are expanding in size and complexity, and the requirement for the energy management system (EMS) is becoming more important. In this computer control system, a single control computer is used mainly as the primary computer and its software is very complicated because of its hugh number of small, quick tasks to obtain high response speed. Therefore, much effort is needed to develop and modify the programs, and the responsiveness of this centralized architecture varies greatly when many faults occur in the power system. This paper describes a new distributed architecture for the EMS. Distributed processors execute the functions cooperatively with periodic access to the common bulletin board database in which information about the power system exist. When a fault occurs on transmission or distribution systems due to lightning or overvoltage, often an arc discharge occurs at the fault point. The arc discharge, which is caused by a fault current, has a high current, high temperature, strong light emission, etc., thus it sometimes causes heavy damages to electric power equipment. The arc discharge is influenced by the conditions around the arcs, i.e., gas, insulation materials, gap length, weather, etc. Also, the arc voltage along the arc column indicates the characteristics of the arc. If the voltage waveforms of the arcs caused by the fault on transmission or distribution systems are classified, it is possible to find the location and the equipment where the fault occurred. In this paper, the arc voltage data in 6-kV class XLPE cables and 6-kV class overhead lines are analyzed and an artificial neural network method is applied to classify the arc voltage waveforms. The results obtained from the six artificial neural networks developed show that the artificial neural network method is effective for classification of arc voltage waveforms if adequate input parameters are selected. 相似文献

The pharyngeal pumping motion to send food to the bowel is a rhythmic movement in Caenorhabditis elegans. This paper proposes a simulation-based approach to investigate the mechanisms of rhythm phenomena in the pharyngeal pumping motion. To conduct the simulations, first, we developed a pharyngeal muscle model including 29 cell models which simulate the activity of each cell as a membrane potential based on FitzHugh-Nagumo equations. Then, to compare the response of the model with that of C. elegans, we calculated the electropharyngeogram (EPG), which represents the electrophysiological responses of the pharyngeal cells, using the simulated membrane potentials. The results confirmed that our model could generate the EPG similar to that measured from C. elegans. We proposed a computer simulation of the pumping motion to investigate the mechanisms of rhythm phenomena in living organisms. 相似文献
