It is shown that for any thickness mode of vibrations the frequency change caused by a DC electric field applied to quartz plate resonators is only approximately proportional to the overtone frequency. It is shown that while this behavior can be predicted qualitatively, the deviations from proportionality are too irregular to claim a quantitative agreement. Concerning practical estimates of the magnitude of the frequency change for a chosen overtone, using the value known for the fundamental or another overtone, it appears that a field of 10(6 ) V/m the variation in Deltaf/f among overtones will only rarely exceed 10(-6). A group of four selected non‐ionic surfactants based on carbohydrates, namely octyl d ‐xyloside (C8X), nonyl d ‐xyloside (C9X), decyl d ‐xyloside (C10X) and dodecyl d ‐xyloside (C12X), have been investigated to accomplish a better understanding of their physico‐chemical properties as well as biological activities. The surface‐active properties, such as critical micelle concentration (CMC), emulsion and foam stability, the impact of the compounds on cell surface hydrophobicity and cell membrane permeability together with their toxicity on the selected bacterial strains have been determined as well. The studied group of surfactants showed high surface‐active properties allowing a decrease in the surface tension to values below 25 mN m?1 for dodecyl d ‐xyloside at the CMC. The investigated compounds did not have any toxic influence on two Pseudomonas bacterial strains at concentrations below 25 mg L?1. The studied long‐chain alkyl xylosides influenced both the cell inner membrane permeability and the cell surface hydrophobicity. Furthermore, the alkyl chain length, as well as the surfactant concentration, had a significant impact on the modifications of the cell surface properties. The tested non‐ionic surfactants exhibited strong surface‐active properties accompanied by the significant influence on growth and properties of Pseudomonas bacteria cells. 相似文献

We study repetitions in infinite words coding exchange of three intervals with permutation (3, 2, 1), called 3iet words. The language of such words is determined by two parameters, ε,?. We show that finiteness of the index of 3iet words is equivalent to boundedness of the coefficients of the continued fraction of ε. In this case, we also give an upper and a lower estimate on the index of the corresponding 3iet word. Our main tool is the connection between a 3iet word with parameters ε,? and sturmian words with slope ε. 相似文献

The role of organic acids in buffering pH in surface waters has been studied using a small brownwater stream (26mg L(-1) TOC) draining a forested catchment in Northern Sweden. Under the conditions of elevated pressure of CO2 stream field pH was changed between 3.5 and 6.1 during the acidification and alkalinization experiment. Acid-base characteristics of the natural organic matter were also determined using a high precision potentiometric method for a concentrated sample from the same stream. We compared the predictions from the Windermere Humic Aqueous Model (WHAM Model V), a model derived from the potentiometric titration (diprotic/monoprotic acid model) and a previously derived triprotic acid model which only uses alkalinity and TOC as input variables. The predicted buffering characteristics of all three models are very similar in the pH range 4.5-7 which suggests that during routine analysis alkalinity and TOC are sufficient to give a good estimate of organic acid anion charge contribution in a large range of surface waters. A slightly adjusted version of WHAM V successfully describes the organic charge contribution in a large number of sampled surface water lakes, which were previously used to calibrate the triprotic model. 相似文献

The very long absence of floods with a return period of more than about 100 years in the Vltava river basin dulled the vigilance of the state administration and self-government bodies. Flood safety measures were mostly related to once-in-a-hundred-years floods. When planning the engineering works before major repairs to the medieval Stone Bridge in Písek in the 1990s, an unpleasant but justified question was raised—what would happen to the Stone Bridge if an extremely powerful 500-year return period flood were to occur? The following case study deals with this question and provides a definitive answer to it. Works were carried out on the Stone Bridge, which was just a few years later exposed to the catastrophic flood that occurred in Bohemia in 2002. 相似文献

Changes in chemical composition and antioxidative properties of rye ginger cakes during their shelf-life were investigated in this study. In particular, the changes in antioxidants content, antioxidative and reducing capacity, and Maillard reaction development in rye ginger cakes after long-term storage were addressed. Ginger cakes produced according to the traditional and current recipe were stored for 5 years at room temperature in a dark place. The total phenolic compounds (TPC), inositol hexaphosphate (IP6), reduced (GSH) and oxidised glutathione (GSSG) contents, antioxidant and reducing capacity and Maillard reaction products (MRPs) were determined in ginger cakes after storage and then compared to those measured after baking. After long-term storage a decrease in TPC and IP6 contents in cakes was noted. In contrast, an increase in antioxidative and reducing capacity of stored cakes was observed. Long-term storage induced formation of furosine, advanced and final Maillard reaction products and caused changes in both reduced and oxidised forms of glutathione. After long-term storage the modest changes in furosine, FAST index and browning in ginger cake formulated with dark rye flour may suggest that this product is the healthiest among others. Therefore, traditional rye ginger cakes can be considered as an example of a healthy food that is also relatively stable during long term storage as noted by the small chemical changes observed in its composition. 相似文献

This study was focused on investigating the antiproliferative effects of chalcone hybrids in melanoma cancer cells. Among seven chalcone hybrids, the chalcone-acridine hybrid 1C was the most potent and was selected for further antiproliferative mechanism studies. This in vitro study revealed the potent antiproliferative effect of 1C via cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induction. Cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase was associated with modulation of expression or phosphorylation of specific cell cycle-associated proteins (cyclin B1, p21, and ChK1), tubulins, as well as with the activation of the DNA damage response pathway. Chalcone 1C also induced apoptosis accompanied by mitochondrial dysfunction evidenced by a decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential, increase in Bax/Bcl-xL ratio and cytochrome c release followed by caspase 3/7 activation. In addition, increased phosphorylation of MAP kinases (Erk1/2, p38 and JNK) was observed in chalcone 1C-treated melanoma cells. The strong antiproliferative activities of this chalcone-acridine hybrid suggest that it may be useful as an antimelanoma agent in humans. 相似文献

Raman micro-spectroscopy is a non-destructive and non-contact analytical technique that combines microscopy and spectroscopy, thus providing a potential for non-invasive and in situ molecular identification, even over heterogeneous and rare samples such as fossilized tissues. Recently, chemical imaging techniques have become an increasingly popular tool for characterizing trace elements, isotopic information, and organic markers in fossils. Raman spectroscopy also shows a growing potential in understanding bone microstructure, chemical composition, and mineral assemblance affected by diagenetic processes. In our lab, we have investigated a wide range of different fossil tissues, mainly of Mesozoic vertebrates (from Jurassic through Cretaceous). Besides standard spectra of sedimentary rocks, including pigment contamination, our Raman spectra also exhibit interesting spectral features in the 1200–1800 cm−1 spectral range, where Raman bands of proteins, nucleic acids, and other organic molecules can be identified. In the present study, we discuss both a possible origin of the observed bands of ancient organic residues and difficulties with definition of the specific spectral markers in fossilized soft and hard tissues. 相似文献
