The hypernetted-chain (HNC) method for quantum many-body calculations is investigated in some detail by means of calculations of the binding energy and the equilibrium density for liquid4He. The calculations are done for six different two-body potentials, and the results are compared with experimental results and other theoretical results obtained by the lowest order constrained variation (LOCV) method. Our HNC results are, in general, quite different from the results obtained by the LOCV method—the LOCV binding energies are generally reduced by 2–5 K in the HNC calculations. The results are also very dependent on the chosen potential, especially at high densities.  相似文献

The wettable cathode is one of the most promising medium-term modifications to the Hall-Héroult process. For implementing this concept, cathode materials of anthracite or semigraphitized carbon matrices with TiB2 (up to 50 wt. %) have been made and evaluated in the laboratory. In this article, the sodium penetration, abrasion resistance, electrical resistivity, and crushing strength are discussed in relation to the cathode performance in aluminum electrolysis.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Many consumers perceive organic foods as more nutritious than conventional foods. However, the existing evidence is insufficient to support or refute this belief. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of three different model cultivation systems on selected major and trace element contents of dried foodstuffs (carrots, kale, peas, potatoes and apples) grown in two consecutive years, as well as mineral retention determined in 36 rats (second generation in a multi‐generation study) fed diets based on these foodstuffs from one year. RESULTS: Overall, there was no evident trend towards differences in element content of foodstuffs or diets due to the use of different cultivation systems, and differences between harvest years exceeded those seen between cultivation methods. Also, no significant differences in the retention of elements in rats fed diets derived from different cultivation systems were seen, since higher intake resulted in correspondingly higher excretion. CONCLUSION: This study does not support the belief that organically grown foodstuffs generally contain more major and trace elements than conventionally grown foodstuffs, nor does there appear to be an effect on the bioavailability of major and trace minerals in rats. Hydrogen permeation measurements were performed at 300 °C for 25-μm cold-rolled Pd-Ag 25 wt% membranes before and after air oxidation at the same temperature as permeation. The air oxidation resulted in enhanced H2 permeation through the membrane, as well as a roughening of the surface with the formation of surface grains and defects. The protruding grains can be leveled off by exposure to H2 but the surface defects cannot. These microstructure changes are only on the membrane surfaces and do not create transmembrane defects that would allow permeation for gas species other than H2. The H2 permeability of the oxidized membrane increased by 25-90% compared to that of the as-received film at the same permeation condition, and the membranes retained perfect H2 selectivity over N2. The percent improvement of H2 permeability decreases with increasing H2 feed pressure. A new sorption kinetics hypothesis is proposed to elucidate the increase in H2 permeability of Pd-Ag membranes caused by oxidation. H2 solubility and sorption rate results were presented to test the new hypothesis. It is found that air oxidation does not change the H2 solubility in Pd-Ag membranes, but enhances the H2 sorption kinetics significantly. The extent of kinetics enhancement also decreases with increasing H2 pressures. The much faster sorption equilibrium implies higher effective H2 diffusivity at the Pd-Ag membrane surface for the oxidized sample and a higher transfer rate of atomic hydrogen from surface/sub-surface to the membrane bulk that contributes to the increase of H2 permeability observed in experiments.  相似文献

Municipal solid waste landfill leachate was sampled over from a landfill receiving varying amounts of municipal solid waste. The investigation aimed to provide information on expected leachate changes in the short term, either after closure of an active landfill, or after a strong decline in the amount of waste deposited at smaller landfills. It was found that during a two year period following a sudden decline in the amount of waste deposited, the levels of various chemical and physical parameters all dropped sharply. The reasons for the decline in discharge levels are thought to be aerobic decomposition taking place in the municipal solid waste just after landfilling, and thus the decline in the impact of this process when there were less fresh waste masses available, and formation of preferential flow paths for the leachate as the municipal solid waste stabilized in the landfill.  相似文献

Growth and metabolism of selected strains of probiotic bacteria in milk   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Growth and metabolism of five probiotic strains with well-documented health effects were studied in ultra-high temperature (UHT) treated milk, supplemented with 0.5% (w/v) tryptone or 0.75% (w/v) fructose. The probiotic strains were Lactobacillus acidophilus La5, Lb. acidophilus 1748, Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Lactobacillus reuteri SD 2112 and Bifidobacterium animalis BB12. Fermentation was followed for 72 h at 37 degrees C and the samples were analysed for pH, log cfu ml(-1), volatile compounds, organic acids and carbon dioxide. The strains reduced pH from 6.7 to between 3.9 and 4.4 after 24 h of incubation. All strains attained viable cell counts above 8.7-9.18 log cfu ml(-1) after 6-16 h of incubation. The two Lb. acidophilus strains showed a stable level of viable cells during 12-72 h of incubation but the three other strains showed a reduction of 0.4-1.1 log cfu ml(-1) from 24 to 72 h of incubation. However, all strains showed cell levels between 7.8 and 8.7 log cfu ml(-1) after 72 h of incubation. After 48 h of incubation, the amount of lactic acid produced varied according to strain from 6949 to 14,000 mg kg(-1) and acetic acid produced varied from 0 to 6901 mg kg(-1). Three of the strains metabolised citrate but only low amounts of diacetyl and acetoin were detected within strains, 0.2-0.8 and 6.5-10 mg kg(-1), respectively. Carbon dioxide produced varied from 221 to 3942 mg kg(-1) and was connected to the citrate-fermenting ability of the strain used and their carbohydrate fermentation pathway. Three of the strains produced detectable levels of acetaldehyde and the concentration varied from 9.4 to 12.6 mg kg(-1) after 24 h of incubation. All five probiotic strains showed very different profiles of metabolites during fermentation; however, the two Lb. acidophilus strains were the most alike. Our findings show the importance of controlling the fermentation time since the probiotic strains produced different amounts of metabolic products according to fermentation time.  相似文献

Direct heat treatment of two milk types, skimmed and nonstandardised full‐fat, was performed by instant steam infusion and compared with indirect heating. Infusion conditions were temperatures of 72–120°C combined with holding times of 100–700 ms, and indirect heat conditions were 72°C/15 s and 85°C/30 s. The activity of indigenous enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase, lactoperoxidase, xanthine oxidase and γ‐glutamyl transpeptidase was evaluated. Infusion temperature was the main determinant of inactivation. Whey protein denaturation represented by β‐lactoglobulin increased significantly with infusion temperature. The nonstandardised milk had a higher denaturation rate than skimmed milk. The effect of instant infusion on pH and milk fat globule size in relation to whey protein denaturation and association is discussed.  相似文献

A range of thermal and mechanical processes were used to create dispersions with different particle morphologies, i.e., systems that contain primarily plant cell wall clusters with an average particle size (d(0.5)) of ~200 µm, single cells ((d(0.5)?=?~70 µm) or cell fragments (d(0.5)?=?~40 µm). The small and large deformation rheology (viscoelastic properties and flow properties) of these dispersions, with a range of total solid contents covering textures varying from a fluid to a paste, were determined. The particle dispersions showed weak gel-like behaviour. Their elastic modulus (G′) as a function of total solid content exhibited three regions of different rheological behaviours. The particles formed particulate colloidal networks at relatively low solid content. The interaction of particles contributed to the sharp increase in the elastic modulus of the dispersion in the concentrated region. Further packing of particles beyond the critical packing volume fraction, caused the G′ for the ‘cluster-cell’ and the ‘single-cell’ dispersions to reach a plateau value. This is due to particle deformation resulting in changes in their microstructure and their ability to pack closely. Plant particle dispersions displayed abrupt yielding at the critical stress with a 3–4 order decrease in viscosity and high yield stress at low solids due to the formation of particulate colloidal network.  相似文献
