Polyphenolic Contents and Antioxidant Potential of Stem Bark Extracts from Jatropha curcas (Linn)

We assessed the polyphenolic contents and antioxidant potential of the aqueous, ethanol and methanol stem bark extracts of Jatropha curcas. The total phenol, flavonoids, flavonols and proanthocyanidin contents of the extracts were evaluated to determine their effect on the antioxidant property of this plant, using standard phytochemical methods. The antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity of ethanol, methanol and aqueous extracts of the plant were also assessed against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), ferric reducing, nitric oxide (NO), superoxide anion, (O(2) (-)) and hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) using spectroscopic methods and results were compared with that of butylated hydroxyl toluene (BHT) and ascorbic acid as standards. The concentrations of different classes of phenolic compounds were higher in methanol and ethanol extracts compared to aqueous extracts. There was correlation between total phenol, total flavonoids, total flavonol and total proanthocyanidins (r = 0.996, 0.978, 0.908, and 0.985) respectively. There was correlations between the amount of phenolic compounds and percentage inhibition of DPPH radicals scavenging activity of the extract (r = 0.98). Findings from the present study indicated that J. curcas is a potential source of natural antioxidants and may be a good candidate for pharmaceutical plant based products.     

Regulation of Phosphatidic Acid Levels in <Emphasis Type="Italic">Trypanosoma cruzi</Emphasis>

Lipid kinases and phosphatases play essential roles in signal transduction processes involved in cytoskeletal rearrangement, membrane trafficking, and cellular differentiation. Phosphatidic acid (PtdOH) is an important mediator lipid in eukaryotic cells, but little is known regarding its regulation in the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, an agent of Chagas disease. In order to clarify the relationship between PtdOH metabolism and developmental stages of T. cruzi, epimastigotes in culture were subjected to hyperosmotic stress (~1,000 mOsm/L), mimicking the environment in the rectum of vector triatomine bugs. These experimental conditions resulted in differentiation to an intermediate form between epimastigotes and trypomastigotes. Morphological changes of epimastigotes were correlated with an increase in PtdOH mass accomplished by increased enzyme activity of diacylglycerol kinase (DAGK, E.C. 2.7.1.107) and concomitant decreased activity of phosphatidate phosphatases type 1 and type 2 (PAP1, PAP2, E.C. 3.1.3.4). Our results indicate progressive increases of PtdOH levels during the differentiation process, and suggest that the regulation of PtdOH metabolism is an important mechanism in the transition from T. cruzi epimastigote to intermediate form.

激光烧结成形法制造功能金属件

美国TSI公司研制最新激光测量仪

Biogeochemical processes in ethanol stimulated uranium-contaminated subsurface sediments

A laboratory incubation experiment was conducted with uranium-contaminated subsurface sediment to assess the geochemical and microbial community response to ethanol amendment. A classical sequence of terminal electron-accepting processes (TEAPs) was observed in ethanol-amended slurries, with NO3- reduction, Fe(III) reduction, SO4(2-) reduction, and CH4 production proceeding in sequence until all of the added 13C-ethanol (9 mM) was consumed. Approximately 60% of the U(VI) content of the sediment was reduced during the period of Fe(III) reduction. No additional U(VI) reduction took place during the sulfate-reducing and methanogenic phases of the experiment Only gradual reduction of NO3-, and no reduction of U(VI), took place in ethanol-free slurries. Stimulation of additional Fe(III) or SO4(2-) reduction in the ethanol-amended slurries failed to promote further U(VI) reduction. Reverse transcribed 16S rRNA clone libraries revealed major increases in the abundance of organisms related to Dechloromonas, Geobacter, and Herbaspirillum in the ethanol-amended slurries. Phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) indicative of Geobacter showed a distinct increase in the amended slurries, and analysis of PLFA 13C/12C ratios confirmed the incorporation of ethanol into these PLFAs. A increase in the abundance of 13C-labeled PLFAs indicative of Desulfobacter, Desulfotomaculum, and Desulfovibrio took place during the brief period of sulfate reduction that followed the Fe(III) reduction phase. Our results show that major redox processes in ethanol-amended sediments can be reliably interpreted in terms of standard conceptual models of TEAPs in sediments. However, the redox speciation of uranium is complex and cannot be explained based on simplified thermodynamic considerations.     

南澳风电场2000年又新增风机1.08万kW

南澳风电场位于广东省南澳县的南澳岛上，是亚洲最大的海岛风电场.自1986年以来，已进行过多期风电建设，截至1999年，共装有风机112台，其中从丹麦、美国和瑞典等国引进了106台，另有6台是和浙江、上海有关科研设计单位共同设计研制的.总装机4.29万kW，年发电量1.05亿kW*h，是目前我国仅次于新疆达坂城风电场排名第二的风电场. 　　2000年以华能综合利用开发公司占股52%、汕头电力局和南澳风电公司各占股24%共同组建的华能南澳风力发电有限公司又共同投资1.09亿元(其中西班牙政府贷款1000万美元)进行风电建设，从西班牙引进了600kW风机18台，共1.08万kW，从2000年3月开始安装，5月即投入运行，使该风电场共有风机130台，总装机达5.37万kW. （吴高供稿）

经一些国家反垄断组织批准,德国巴斯夫与日本武田维生素和食品公司的维生素业务将合并。合并后的维生素业务市场份额将约占全球维生素市场的30%,为饲料、食品及药品用户提供品种齐全的维生素产品。 巴斯夫是世界第二大维生素生产商,其主要产品为脂溶性维生素。武田的大部分维生素业务由其维生素与食品公司经营,在美国、德国及日本有生产厂生产并在全球销售各种水溶性维生素。武田维生素业务的加入,补充并大大加强了目前巴斯夫维生素的生产和销售业务。 (王亚琴)
