Investigated the possibility that former mental patients, often treated unfavorably by society, are given inadequate attention by medical practitioners. Schizophrenic patients were traced for 5.5 yr. following initial admission and were classified as Recovered (60 males, 52 females) if hospitalized for no longer than 6 mo. or Nonrecovered (23 males, 33 females) if hospitalized for at least 5 yr. In comparison with the Recovered group, patients in the Nonrecovered group were less likely to be married and showed inferior social and sexual adjustment prior to the illness. In this paper, we propose a time-domain index to assess M-wave widening during high-frequency stimulation, as an objective parameter for quantifying muscle fatigue. At high stimulation frequencies, signal truncation, due to the delivery of the electrical stimulus before the M-wave generated by the previous stimulus extinguishes, biases the spectral frequency variables usually computed to estimate M-wave widening. Thus, we propose an estimator of the scale factor between two truncated M-waves. The estimator is derived from the Scale Transforms of the two signals, with an efficient implementation that avoids limits of resolution. The method was tested on both simulated and experimental signals. The simulations showed that the proposed technique is significantly less affected by signal truncation than previous approaches. The experimental recordings were collected from 11 subjects at stimulation frequencies of 20, 40, and 60 Hz. The scale factor estimation assessed M-wave widening in the three conditions, differentiating between the different rates of change of signal widening. The method proved to be significantly superior to M-wave spectral analysis. The technique can be applied to investigate myoelectric manifestations of muscle fatigue at stimulation rates that could not be analyzed in the past and, thus, opens new perspectives in the evaluation of electrical stimulation for training and rehabilitation protocols. 相似文献

An approximation is given for the case of simultaneous steady state diffusion and chemical reaction in a liquid—liquid system under such conditions that diffusion and chemical reaction are of the same order of magnitude in the two phases. The two-film model was adopted to represent the system, and results were plotted as variations of the enhancement factor with the diverse parameters affecting it. Over the last years, nonfluoroscopic in vivo cardiac mapping and navigation systems have been developed and successfully applied in clinical electrophysiology. Clearly, a trend can be observed to introduce more sensors into the measurement system so that physiological information can be gathered simultaneously and more efficiently and the duration of procedure can be shortened significantly. However, it would not be realistic to equip each catheter electrode with a localizer, e.g., by embedding a miniature magnetic location sensor. Therefore, in this paper, an alternate approach has been worked out to efficiently localize multiple catheter electrodes by considering the impedance between electrodes in the heart and electrode patches on the body surface. In application of the new technique, no additional expensive and sophisticated hardware is required other than the currently existing cardiac navigation system. A tank model and a computerized realistic human model are employed to support the development of the positioning system. In the simulation study, the new approach achieves an average localization error of less than 1 mm, which proves the feasibility of the impedance-based catheter positioning system. In the quest on improving composite formulations for environmental sustainability, maleic acid (MA) cross-linked poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-α-chitin composites reinforced by oil palm empty fruit bunch fibers (OPEFB)-derived nanocellulose crystals (NCC) had been successfully prepared. Based on the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic analysis, it was proven that molecular interactions of the cross-linker to the polymeric networks was through conjugated ester linkage. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) showed that the influence of MA was minimal toward crystallization in the PVA/chitin/NCC composite. Maximum tensile strength, elongation at break and Young's modulus of the respective PVA/chitin/NCC composites were achieved at different content of MA, dependent on the PVA/chitin mass ratio. Among all compositions, a maximum Young's modulus was achieved at 30 wt% MA loading in PVA/chitin-30/NCC, amounting to 2,413.81 ± 167.36 MPa. Moreover, the mechanical properties and selected physicochemical properties (swelling, gel content, and contact angle) of the PVA/chitin/NCC composites could be tailored by varying the chitin content (10–30 wt%) and MA content (10–50 wt% based on total mass of composite). In brief, this chemically cross-linked PVA-based biocomposites formulated with sustainable resources exhibited tunable physicochemical and mechanical properties. 相似文献
