Solutions of the time-dependent diffusion equation were developed to take into account the depth of the source and the detector inside a semi-infinite medium. These solutions permitted an evaluation of optical properties at different depths below the surface by fitting time-resolved data. Measurements were performed on liquid optical phantoms with optical fibers for delivering and collecting light. A time-correlated single-photon-counting chain was used for electronic detection. The determination of optical properties underlines the continuity between the surface model and the infinite model and shows the depth at which the derived solutions can be applied.  相似文献

The current global food system must adapt to the expected growth of world population (about 9 billion individuals by 2050). This adaptation will probably include an increased consumption of edible wild foods, due to their richness in micronutrients and bioactive compounds, besides providing a cost‐effective and sustainable way of improving caloric food security. A striking example of such natural matrices is the Quercus genus, which has the additional advantage of being widespread throughout the Northern Hemisphere. In a traditional sense, Quercus fruits (acorns) were mainly used in animal feeding, despite their potentially important role on the rural economy. But this preconception is changing. In fact, their nutritional value, high contents in phytochemical compounds, biological activity (such as antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and cardioprotective properties) and use in the treatment of specific diseases (such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, or Alzheimer's disease) have raised the interest in integrating acorns into the human diet. Accordingly, this comprehensive overview was designed to provide an evidence‐based review of the literature, with the objective to achieve useful conclusions regarding the nutritional properties, methodologies of extraction, identification, and characterization of a wide variety of bioactive compounds and scientifically validated bioactivities in Quercus species worldwide. The industrial by‐products from acorn oil extraction or flour production are also included. Data regarding the analytical techniques, individual compounds, and their bioactivities, are organized in tables. The reported data are discussed and directions for further investigations are suggested, highlighting the use of acorns in food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical applications.  相似文献

Abstract

The voice is produced by the vibration of vocal cords which are located in the larynx. Therefore, one of the major consequences for patients subjected to laryngectomy is losing their voice. In these cases, a synthetic one-way valve set (voice prosthesis) can be implanted in order to allow restoration of speech. Most voice prostheses are produced with silicone-based materials such as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). This material has excellent properties, such as optical transparency, chemical and biological inertness, non-toxicity, permeability to gases and excellent mechanical resistance that are fundamental for its application in the biomedical field. However, PDMS is very hydrophobic and this property causes protein adsorption which is followed by microbial adhesion and biofilm formation. To overcome these problems, surface modification of materials has been proposed in this study. A commercial silicone elastomer, SylgardTM 184 was used to prepare membranes whose surface was modified by grafting 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate and methacrylic acid by low-pressure plasma treatment. The hydrophilicity, hydrophobic recovery and surface energy of the produced materials were determined. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity of the materials were also assessed. The results obtained revealed that the PDMS surface modification performed did not affect the material's biocompatibility, but decreased their hydrophobic character and bacterial adhesion and growth on its surface.  相似文献

Synthesis and spectral evaluation of new zinc and copper unsymmetrical mesoporphyrinic complexes are reported. Zn(II)-5-(4-acetoxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-10,15,20- tris-(4-carboxymethylphenyl)porphyrin, Zn(II)-5-[(3,4-methylenedioxy)phenyl]-10,15,20- tris-(4-carboxymethylphenyl)porphyrin, Cu(II)-5-(4-acetoxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-10,15,20- tris-(4-carboxymethylphenyl)porphyrin and Cu(II)-5-[(3,4-methylenedioxy)phenyl]-10,15,20- tris-(4-carboxymethylphenyl)porphyrin were synthesized using microwave-assisted synthesis. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, EPR and NMR spectroscopy, which fully confirmed their structure. The spectral absorption properties of the porphyrinic complexes were studied in solvents with different polarities. Fluorescence emission and singlet oxygen formation quantum yields were evaluated for the compounds under study, revealing high yields for the zinc derivatives. The copper complexes are not emissive and only display residual capacity for singlet oxygen formation.  相似文献

The effect of cultivar and ripeness stage on the potential nutritional value of monovarietal extra virgin olive oils (MEVOOs) obtained from Cordovil, Carrasquinha, Verdeal, and Negrinha do Freixo cultivars was investigated. MEVOOs produced were characterized by high oleic acid (72–83%), tocopherol (182–530 mg/kg), and phenolic compounds (326–1110 mg/kg) content and by a similar polyphenolic profile. 1‐Penten‐3‐one was found to be the compound with the highest contribution for the aroma of the four MEVOO, related to bitter, pungent, and leaf attributes. MEVOO from Verdeal cultivar showed the best performance in terms of the composition: the highest yield of oil, the highest content of oleic acid, high tocopherol, polyphenol and sterol content, and the lowest content of linoleic acid. These characteristics give to these MEVOO not only a great oxidative stability but also interesting properties from the health point of view. MEVOO obtained with fruits at the maturity index of around 4 were in general richer in beneficial minor compounds. MEVOO produced were discriminated by variety and ripeness stage, using a stepwise linear discriminant analysis. This discrimination will in the future enable the prevention of adulteration of these monovarietal olive oils with specific nutritional composition with other olive oils. Practical implications: High‐quality MEVOOs have recently been introduced in the market, which for growers is a practical way to differentiate and increase the commercial value of extra virgin olive oil. The quantification of major and minor olive oil compounds in monovarietal olive oils represents an objective way of predicting the sensory characteristics, stability, and potential health benefits of the oils, as well as preventing their adulteration with other olive oils. This study will help in the selection of olive varieties during the maintenance or development of new olive orchards and also to select optimum harvest period for these varieties, in order to obtain MEVOOs with the maximum quality and health benefits for consumers.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the growth‐inhibiting efficacy of Drosera intermedia extracts (water, methanol and n‐hexane) against four food spoilage yeasts and five filamentous fungi strains responsible for food deterioration and associated with mycotoxin production, in order to identify potential antimycotic agents. RESULTS: The n‐hexane extract showed a broad activity spectrum against all tested microorganisms, followed, in activity, by the methanol and water extracts. The major component of the n‐hexane extract was purified using a solid‐phase extraction column and identified as plumbagin. Results show that high‐purity plumbagin can be produced from D. intermedia cultures following a simple and effective isolation procedure. A sample of purified plumbagin was tested against the same panel of microorganisms and high growth‐inhibiting capacity was observed. Minimum inhibitory concentrations less than 2 µg mL?1 were obtained against the filamentous fungi. In the case of the species Aspergillus fumigatus, A. niger and A. flavus , activities comparable to miconazole were obtained. CONCLUSION: The results obtained provided evidence of the antimycotic activity of plumbagin, suggesting that D. intermedia could be the source of an interesting compound for the food industry as an alternative to preservatives.
