A semi-operative approach to retrieve chlorophyll-a concentration from airborne/spaceborne spectrometer observations has been developed and tested using the airborne imaging spectrometer (AISA) data from 11 lakes located in southern Finland. The retrieval approach is empirical and requires nearly simultaneous in situ training data on water quality for the determination of regression coefficients. However, the training data does not have to be collected from every lake under investigation. Instead, the results obtained indicate that reliable estimates on the level of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) for an individual lake can be achieved without employing in situ data representing this specific lake. This enables the estimation of water quality from remotely sensed data for numerous lakes with the aid of reference data only for a few selected lakes representing the region under investigation. In addition, it is shown that the remotely sensed spectrum shape characteristics are highly affected by the trophic and humic state of the lake water. 相似文献

Previous work within self-determination theory has shown that experimentally framing a learning activity in terms of extrinsic rather than intrinsic goals results in poorer conceptual learning and performance, presumably because extrinsic goal framing detracts attention from the learning activity and is less directly satisfying of basic psychological needs. According to the match perspective, experimental extrinsic, compared to intrinsic, goal framing should enhance learning and performance for learners who personally hold a stronger extrinsic than intrinsic goal orientation, as these learners' personally held goals match with the situationally induced goals. An experimental field study among 5th-6th grade children shows that extrinsic goal framing resulted in poorer autonomous motivation, conceptual (but not rote) learning, and persistence compared to intrinsic goal framing, irrespective of participants' personal intrinsic versus extrinsic goal orientations and their spontaneous perception of the learning activity as serving an intrinsic or an extrinsic goal. The authors conclude that teachers can best promote intrinsic goals, even when facing students who personally hold a stronger extrinsic than intrinsic goal orientation. This study analyzes the exposure of the human torso to electromagnetic fields caused by wireless body-mounted or handheld devices. Because of the frequency and distance ranges from 30-5800 MHz and 10 to 200 mm, respectively, both near-field and far-field effects are considered. A generic body model and simulations of anatomical models are used to evaluate the worst case tissue composition with respect to the absorption of electromagnetic energy. Both standing wave effects and enhanced coupling of reactive near-field components can lead to a specific absorption rate (SAR) increase in comparison to homogeneous tissue. In addition, the exposure and temperature increase of different inner organs is assessed. With respect to compliance testing, the observed SAR enhancement may require the introduction of a multiplication factor for the spatial peak SAR measured in the liquid-filled phantom in order to obtain a conservative exposure assessment. The observed tissue heating at the body surface under adiabatic conditions can be significant, whereas the temperature increase in the inner organs turned out to be negligible for the cases investigated. 相似文献

This review describes simple and useful concepts for predicting and tuning the pK(a) values of basic amine centers, a crucial step in the optimization of physical and ADME properties of many lead structures in drug-discovery research. The article starts with a case study of tricyclic thrombin inhibitors featuring a tertiary amine center with pK(a) values that can be tuned over a wide range, from the usual value of around 10 to below 2 by (remote) neighboring functionalities commonly encountered in medicinal chemistry. Next, the changes in pK(a) of acyclic and cyclic amines upon substitution by fluorine, oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur functionalities, as well as carbonyl and carboxyl derivatives are systematically analyzed, leading to the derivation of simple rules for pK(a) prediction. Electronic and stereoelectronic effects in cyclic amines are discussed, and the emerging computational methods for pK(a) predictions are briefly surveyed. The rules for tuning amine basicities should not only be of interest in drug-discovery research, but also to the development of new crop-protection agents, new amine ligands for organometallic complexes, and in particular, to the growing field of amine-based organocatalysis. 相似文献

Vitamin A (VA) and its derivatives, the retinoids, are important factors for the development of the immune system. It has been shown in adult animals that proliferation of lymphocyte populations and antibody secretion are retinoid dependent, while little is known about the effects of retinoids during postnatal development. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of VA on allergic sensitisation during lactation and after weaning using an in vivo system for postnatal allergic sensitisation in mice. Different VA diets (basal/VA elimination/VA (as retinyl palmitate) supplemented) were fed to the dams throughout lactation and directly to the pups after weaning. Allergic sensitisation was induced with a single peritoneal ovalbumin (OVA) injection at day 28 after weaning. The phenotype of lymphocytes was analysed by flow cytometry and functional data were obtained by analysis of (IL-4/IFN-gamma) cytokine production and antibody production (OVA-specific IgG1 and IgE) in the offspring. VA/retinyl palmitate supplementation during lactation and after weaning decreased CD3+, CD4+, CD8+ and B220+ populations in splenic lymphocytes but also significantly enhanced IL-4 production and OVA-specific IgE after sensitisation. In contrast, mice fed VA-elimination diet displayed no significant alteration of lymphocyte numbers and a slightly increased IL-4 production. Our results showed that a single allergen injection during postnatal development induces allergic sensitisation whose degree is modified by the VA content of the maternal diet during lactation and the diet of the pups after weaning, indicating an important role of VA on the severity of the allergic sensitisation. 相似文献

Modelling the Single Burning Item Test Harmonisation in Europe led to new standards, tests and classification of building products in fire safety. The Single Burning Item (SBI) test is the new reaction to fire test for the intermediate level. In the test a developing fire caused by a single burning item, e.g. a burning waste paper basket, is simulated. Numerical investigations of the SBI test have been performed by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in cooperation with Technical University Berlin. Two CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) codes, Fluent and FDS, have been used to develop models of the SBI test. Data of our own experiments and literature has been used to validate the numerical models. Variation of ventilation in the burning room and variation of ambient air temperature lead to significant changes in temperatures and flow velocities in the burning room. The SBI standard EN 13823 allows the ventilation and ambient air temperature to be in a range. New experiments are necessary to show the effect of one single parameter like ambient air temperature. But the used data and the numerical results give reason to think about narrowing the ranges for ventilation and ambient air temperature in the standard. 相似文献

As the climate changes, farmers in developing countries seek to employ strategies to help them sustain food production. The objectives of this paper were to identify adaptation strategies in response to climate change and the determinants for their adoption, and to explore the impact of these strategies on food security. The analysis was based on a survey of 900 small-scale farmers in a semi-arid (Dodoma) and a semi-humid (Morogoro) region in Tanzania. Farmers in the semi-humid region tended to diversify their crops, i.e. added additional crop types. Given the more challenging environment in the semi-arid region, farmers there changed their portfolio of crops, i.e. substituted some crops or cultivars with others. Logistic regressions highlighted higher tolerance to risk, land ownership, education and experiences of farmers as drivers of adoption, while income diversification had a negative effect. The propensity score matching approach showed that adopters of climate-smart strategies are on-average more food-secure. These users showed a more diverse pattern of food consumption, greater protein intake and better economic access to food. Changing crop portfolios can help households to cope with climate-related shocks such as droughts and thus appears to be the best performing strategy, especially in terms of more stable food provisioning throughout the year. 相似文献
