The noise front transport systems (roads, railways and aircraft) are increasing more and more both in space and in time and, therefore, they are still the major factor responsible for environmental noise pollution. The population exposed to transport noise is also increasing. and the corresponding health effects on people (i.e. annoyance and sleep disturbance) become more severe. Due to this current situation international and national legislation has been issued and implemented to reduce the harmful effects of such noise. Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare focal or systemic infiltrative disorder resulting from xanthogranulomatous tissue deposition. Usually, bone marrow involvement affects long bone metaphyses symmetrically, but it spares the epiphyses. Retroperitoneal space, periaortic area, skin, and brain involvement have been described. Pulmonary involvement is frequent, occurring in 20% of cases. Reported histologic features in the lung include an infiltration of so-called lipid-laden macrophages and granulomatous lesions with fibrosis. Lung function outcome is unpredictable, but terminal respiratory failure is the most frequent cause of death. No effective treatment strategies have been described. We report a new case with lung and bone involvement occurring in a symptomatic woman. Histologic and electron microscopic analysis of the pulmonary infiltrate showed abnormal macrophages devoid of lipids forming nodular granulomas and rendering the previous hypothesis of this disease as a primary lipid storage disorder unlikely. These findings suggest that ECD histogenesis is instead based on a primary macrophage cell disease. 相似文献

Progesterone (PG) and three structurally similar synthetic progestins-norethisterone (NE), allylestrenol (AE), and dydrogesterone (DG)-have been compared for their ability to induce the formation of micronuclei and of enzyme-altered foci in the liver of female rats. In the micronucleus assay, carried out in rats given a single p.o. dose of 100 mg kg-1 3 days before partial hepatectomy and sacrificed for cell sampling 2 days later, the frequency of micronucleated hepatocytes was 3.5-fold higher than in controls with PG, 2.8-fold with DG, 2.2-fold with NE and 2.1-fold with AE, but the increase was statistically significant only for PG. In the liver foci assay, performed to evaluate the tumor initiating activity of p. o. dosing with 100 mg kg-1 once a week for 6 successive weeks, the values of the number and area of gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase-positive foci were, as compared to controls, 15.9- and 100-fold higher with NE, and 13.9- and 52-fold higher with AE, but only the increase of area produced by NE was statistically significant; PG and DG did not display in this test any activities. Considered together with previous findings, these results suggest that NE might be biotransformed in the liver into reactive species and thus behave as a weak genotoxic agent. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a shorter method of performing platelet kinetic studies with respect to the conventional 8-9-day approach. METHODS: We studied 41 patients (28 women, 13 men; mean age 52 yr) with primary idiopathic thombocytopenic purpura (ITP) (n = 20), secondary ITP (n = 9), HCV associated thrombocytopenia (n = 9), splenectomy (n = 1) and hairy-cell leukemia (n = 1). The patients were in a steady-state of platelet turnover. Initial platelet counts ranged from 19 to 302 x 10(9)/liter (mean value = 83). Platelet survival times (PST) were measured from the blood radioactivity disappearance curve of 111In-oxine-labeled autologus platelets following the recommendations of the International Committee for Standardization in Haematology: blood samples were taken at 30 min and 2 and 4 hr and thereafter daily for 7 days. PST was calculated by the weighted mean method and ranged from 18 to 219 hr (mean value = 98). PST was also calculated using only the data collected at 2, 48 and 96 hr. If the radioactivity in the blood at 96 hr exceeded 10% of the 2-hr value, the additional point at 168 hr was used. RESULTS: By using this reduced dataset, we obtained a correlation of r = 0.97 with the PST obtained from the whole dataset. In 24 patients, the difference was between +/- 10 hr and exceeded 1 day in only 4. CONCLUSION: About 94% of the data may be recovered with only three or four blood samples and the duration may be shortened to 4 days in a significant proportion of patients (48% of ITP patients). This approach offers the advantages of increased patient throughput, compliance and reduced examination costs. 相似文献

Zero-current (ZC) resonant switches allow one to reduce the switching losses in high-frequency DC/DC switched mode power supplies. ZC resonant switches can be either unidirectional (half-wave) or bidirectional (full-wave). If a conventional power MOSFET is chosen to implement the ZC resonant switch, the turn-on of the slow intrinsic diode has to be avoided. This is usually done with a fast blocking diode, which is connected in series with the MOSFET. Furthermore, an antiparallel fast diode is added when a FW ZC resonant switch is required. The conduction losses are relevant in this implementation, owing to the threshold voltage and to the series resistances of the two diodes. In this paper, a low-conduction-loss FW ZC resonant switch has been proposed. Its implementation is based on a power MOSFET and a single antiparallel Schottky diode. The possibility of an implementation with a power MOSFET alone is also discussed. A control circuit suitable for the proposed ZC resonant switch has been described. The experimental results obtained from a ZCS-QR buck converter are discussed.<> 相似文献

Viruses are trailblazers in hijacking host systems for their own needs. Plant viruses have been shown to exploit alternative avenues of translocation within a host, including a challenging route through the xylem, to expand their niche and establish systemic spread, despite apparent host-imposed obstacles. Recent findings indicate that plant viruses from many families could successfully hack xylem cells in a broad range of plant hosts, including herbaceous and perennial woody plants. Similar to virus-related structures present in the phloem, virus particles and membrane-containing viral replication complexes are often observed in the xylem. Except for a few single-stranded DNA viruses in the family Geminiviridae and a negative-sense single-stranded RNA rhabdovirus, Lettuce necrotic yellows virus, the majority of the viruses that were detected in the xylem belong to the group of positive-sense RNA viruses. The diversity of the genome organization and virion morphology of those viruses indicates that xylem exploitation appears to be a widely adapted strategy for plant viruses. This review outlines the examples of the xylem-associated viruses and discusses factors that regulate virus inhabitation of the xylem as well as possible strategies of virus introduction into the xylem. In some cases, plant disease symptoms have been shown to be closely related to virus colonization of the xylem. Inhibiting viral xylem invasion could raise potential attractive approaches to manage virus diseases. Therefore, the identification of the host genes mediating virus interaction with the plant xylem tissue and understanding the underlying mechanisms call for more attention. 相似文献

Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are adult multipotent cells able to increase sensory neuron survival: direct co-culture of MSCs with neurons is pivotal to observe a neuronal survival increase. Despite the identification of some mechanisms of action, little is known about how MSCs physically interact with neurons. The aim of this paper was to investigate and characterize the main mechanisms of interaction between MSCs and neurons. Morphological analysis showed the presence of gap junctions and tunneling nanotubes between MSCs and neurons only in direct co-cultures. Using a diffusible dye, we observed a flow from MSCs to neurons and further analysis demonstrated that MSCs donated mitochondria to neurons. Treatment of co-cultures with the gap junction blocker Carbenoxolone decreased neuronal survival, thus demonstrating the importance of gap junctions and, more in general, of cell communication for the MSC positive effect. We also investigated the role of extracellular vesicles; administration of direct co-cultures-derived vesicles was able to increase neuronal survival. In conclusion, our study demonstrates the presence and the importance of multiple routes of communication between MSCs and neurons. Such knowledge will allow a better understanding of the potential of MSCs and how to maximize their positive effect, with the final aim to provide the best protective treatment. 相似文献
