ABSTRACTMagnesium layered hydroxide (MLH) intercalated with anionic 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid (MPP) was synthesised by a direct reaction method using magnesium oxide and MPP as precursors. A further coating of chitosan was applied on the external surface of MLH–MPP nanocomposite to form a new material, named MLH–MPP/chitosan nanocomposite. The XRD pattern showed an intense and sharp peak at basal spacing 18.9 Å, proving that MPP anions were successfully intercalated into the interlayer gallery of MLH in a monolayer arrangement. The XRD pattern of the MLH–MPP/chitosan nanocomposite shows similar peaks with the MLH–MPP nanocomposite. The result was also supported by FTIR spectra and elemental analysis. TGA/DTG spectra showed that the thermal stabilities of the guest anion in the both nanocomposites were markedly enhanced. A controlled-release study of the MPP ion from the MLH–MPP/chitosan nanocomposite showed a slower release compared to MLH–MPP nanocomposite with an initial rapid release and slow release thereafter. Meanwhile, the release behaviours of MPP ions from both nanocomposites were governed by pseudo-second order kinetics. This result highlights the potential of the nanocomposite as an encapsulated material for the controlled-release formulation of MPP anions. 相似文献

Supported catalysts, one of the commonest forms of heterogeneous catalysts in practical use, consist of small crystallites of a catalytically active component dispersed in a porous support of high surface area. Impregnation of the support with an aqueous solution of a compound containing the appropriate catalytic component is an important and frequently used method of preparing this type of catalyst. A nonaqueous solution should be used if the sup port surface is hydrophobic or if hydrolysis of the support surface is to be avoided. In its simplest form, this impregnation method involves three steps: (1) contacting the support with impregnating solution for a certain period of time, (2) drying the support to remove the imbibed liquid, and (3) activating the catalyst by calcination, reduction, or other appropriate treatment. 相似文献

For the mining based oilsands industry, it is desirable to determine the quality of the ore delivered to the extraction processes in real-time to make optimal operational decisions such as optimal ore blending to achieve maximal bitumen recovery. Currently, the industry determines the real-time ore characteristics for any given shovel Global Positioning System (GPS) location by first determining the shovel elevation from the topological mine map and then using the determined geological coordinates in the 3D geological block model. It should be noted that the block model is built based on the widely spaced core hole samples, and it is updated only on a yearly basis due to high cost of narrower core hole sampling. Thus, the block model predictions are often inaccurate in between the core hole spacing. On the other hand, mining operations data are available that contain accurate ore characteristics information in the already mined area. Therefore, in this work, we present a just-in-time based data-driven modelling strategy that utilizes the recently available mining operations data to obtain reliable ore characteristics given the GPS data. The prediction capability of ore characteristics using the proposed modelling strategy is validated at core hole locations. Composite products are often subjected to secondary machining processes as integral part of component manufacture. However, rapid tool wear becomes the limiting factor in maintaining consistent machining quality of the composite materials. Hence, this study demonstrates the development of an indirect approach in predicting and monitoring the wear on carbide tool during end milling using multiple regression analysis (MRA) and neuro-fuzzy modelling. Although the results have indicated that acceptable predictive capability can be well achieved using MRA, the application of neuro-fuzzy yields a significant improvement in the prediction accuracy. It is apparent that the accuracies are pronounced as a result of nonlinear membership function and hybrid learning algorithms. Using the developed models, a timely decision for tool re-conditioning or tool replacement can be achieved effectively. 相似文献

We consider the structure and performance of a multistage decoding scheme for an internally bandwidth efficient convolutionally coded Poisson fiber-optic code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. The decoder is implemented electronically in several stages in which in each stage, the interfering users' coded bit decisions obtained in the previous stage is applied for computing the likelihood of the coded symbols of the desired user. The first stage is a soft-input Viterbi decoder for the internally coded scheme, in which the soft-input coded symbol likelihood values are computed by considering the multiuser interference as a noise signal. The likelihood of coded symbol computed in each stage is then entered into the convolutional decoder for the next bit decisions. The convolutional codes that are used for demonstrating the performance of the multistage decoder are super orthogonal codes (SOCs). We derive the bit error rates (BERs) of the proposed decoder for internally coded Poisson fiber-optic CDMA systems using optical orthogonal codes (OOCs) along with both ON-OFF keying (OOK) and binary pulse position modulation (BPPM) schemes. Our numerical results indicate that the proposed decoding scheme substantially outperforms the single-stage soft-input Viterbi decoder. We also derive the upper bound on the probability of error of a decoder for the known interference case, which is the ultimate performance of a multiuser decoder, and compare the result with that of the soft-input Viterbi decoder. 相似文献

AbstractIn refrigeration and air conditioning systems, the fin surface may become dry, fully wet or partially wet depending upon the psychometric, thermo-physical and geometric parameters. The current work is intended to determine the length of the dry portion, temperature distribution, performance and optimum design parameters of a T-shaped fin under partially wet condition. Temperature dependent thermal conductivity of the fin material is taken and the humidity ratio of saturated air is considered to vary linearly with the corresponding fin surface temperature. Considering these the governing equation of T-shaped fin becomes nonlinear and it has been solved analytically by using Homotopy Perturbation Method. The point of separation between the dry and wet portions of a T-shaped fin may be located either in the stem or flange part and hence, two cases having different governing equations and boundary conditions are analyzed in the current study. For the optimization study, Lagrange multiplier technique is employed and the results are obtained by maximizing the heat transfer rate for a constant fin volume.
