Pulse radiolysis experiments were conducted on dissolved organic matter (DOM) samples isolated as hydrophobic and hydrophilic acids and neutrals from different sources (i.e., stream, lake, wastewater treatment plant). Absolute bimolecular reaction rate constants for the reaction of hydroxyl radicals (*OH) with DOM (k*(OH), DOM) were determined. k*(OH, DOM) values are expressed as moles of carbon. Based on direct measurement of transient DOM radicals (DOM*) and competition kinetic techniques, both using pulse radiolysis, the k*(OH, DOM) value for a standard fulvic acid from the Suwannee River purchased from the International Humic Substances Society was (1.60 +/- 0.24) x 10(8) M(-1) s(-1). Both pulse radiolysis methods yielded comparable k*(OH, DOM) values. The k*(OH, DOM) values for the seven DOM isolates from different sources ranged from 1.39 x 10(8) M(-1) s(-1) to 4.53 x 10(8) M(-1) s(-1), and averaged 2.23 x 108 M(-1) s(-1) (equivalent to 1.9 x 10(4) (mgC/L)(-1) s(-1)). These values represent the first direct measurements of k*(OH, DOM,) and they compare well with literature values obtained via competition kinetic techniques during ozone or ultraviolet irradiation experiments. More polar, lower-molecular-weight DOM isolates from wastewater have higher k*(OH, DOM) values. In addition, the formation (microsecond time scale) and decay (millisecond time scale) of DOM* transients were observed for the first time. DOM* from hydrophobic acids exhibited broader absorbance spectra than transphilic acids, while wastewater DOM isolates had narrower DOM* spectra more skewed toward shorter wavelengths than did DOM* spectra for hydrophobic acids. 相似文献

Electrochemical double‐layer capacitors (EDLCs) are devices that store enormous amounts of charge electrostatically when a potential is applied between electrodes of very high surface area (typically made of porous carbon) and an electrolyte. Wider commercialization of this technology has been held back by the lack of ultralow‐cost electrode materials. We demonstrate that used coffee grounds can be processed to form low‐cost electrodes. The surface and electrochemical characteristics of microporous activated carbons from used coffee grounds (CGCs) were measured. First, optimal times and temperatures for carbonization and activation were identified on the basis of Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, pore volume, and pore size distribution. Second, CGCs were used as polarized electrodes in EDLCs, whose capacitances were evaluated using cyclic voltammetry. The results show that carbonization for 1 h at 600 °C with a heating rate of 300 °C/h, followed by CO2 activation for 2 h at 1000 °C, affords the highest BET surface area (1867 m2/g) compared to other works. The produced CGCs have many micropores of less than 2 nm across, which contribute to the formation of an electric double layer. Capacitors made using these CGCs show the highest capacitance (103 F/g) in 0.8 M (C2H5)4NBF4/PC as an organic electrolyte, which is much higher than the ∼80 F/g typically used in organic‐electrolyte‐based commercial EDLCs, suggesting that coffee grounds are a useful electrode material. © 2014 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Daily intakes of 12 phenols which are possible endocrine disruptors were estimated in hospital meals from 2000 to 2001. 4-Nonylphenol (4-NP (mix)) and bisphenol A (BPA) were detected at levels of 5.0 to 19.4 ng/g and 0.2 to 1.1 ng/g, respectively. 4-tert-Butylphenol, 4-n-pentylphenol, 4 -tert-pentylphenol, 4-n-hexylphenol, 4-n-heptylphenol and 4-tert-octylphenol were detected at levels of 0.1 to 2.4 microg/g. The daily intakes of 4-NP (mix) and BPA were 5.8 microg/day and 0.42 microg/day, respectively. The daily intakes of other phenols were less than 1 microg/day. 相似文献

Two‐pole large generators are extensively used in power utilities. Growing demand for electric power in recent years has led to substantial increases in the capacity of generators. In line with this trend, our company has manufactured two‐pole turbine generators in the 900,000‐kVA to 1,200,000‐kVA classes. As the capacity of generators becomes larger, equivalent circuits are increasingly expected to improve their precision in estimating operation characteristics. The Park model has been widely used as an equivalent circuit model. The Park model with quadrature axis transient reactance $x_{q}^{\prime}$ is claimed to be useful for accurately estimating the load rejection characteristics of turbine generators. However, it is difficult to measure $x_{q}^{\prime}$, few studies based on measured data have appeared. As one of the few examples, we have conducted a measured data on a 500,000‐kVA‐class generator. Recently, the authors obtained test data on $x_{q}^{\prime}$ of a 900,000‐kVA‐class generator. In this study, based on these data, we studied the effect of $x_{q}^{\prime}$ using the finite element method and a transient analysis program (EMTP‐ATP). © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We propose a methodology to optimize radiation protection in radioactive waste disposal after the closure of a disposal facility based on a probabilistic approach. In this methodology, a set of alternative options of the disposal system design with the associated uncertainties estimated through a probabilistic approach are developed. Then, the methodology evaluates the advantages and disadvantages of each option for the optimization of radiation protection, in which it is possible to determine the compliance with a dose constraint of 0.3 mSv/y and to collect information for making a decision on the optimization. In particular, the obtained information on the exposure, which is the mode and width of the dose distribution, can be converted into information on engineering measures and site conditions for the options. This process allows us to discuss which option should be selected as the optimal option by considering the balance between the exposure and the engineering, economic, and social feasibility of the option. This methodology is helpful for providing clear reasons why an optimal disposal system design is selected by combining quantitative information on the exposure and the feasibility of each option. 相似文献

A self-assembled monolayer (SAM) of l-homocysteine (l-Hcy) formed on the surface of a gold-deposited gate of a field effect transistor (FET) was used to differentiate between enantiomers of amino acids, for which the formation of diastereomeric metal complexes is fundamental for chiral discrimination. Here, we focus our attention on the dependence of the FET response on the analyte amino acids, the central metal ions involved in complex formation, and the solution pH. Using the l-Hcy SAM-modified gate with added Cu(II), notable negative FET responses were enantioselectively observed for the l-enantiomers of alanine (Ala), phenylalanine, and tryptophan, whereas differences in the FET responses between enantiomers were negligible for asparagine and aspartic acid. Regarding the enantioselectivity for Ala, the addition of Cu(II) was demonstrated to show higher selectivity as compared to other metal ions such as Co(II) and Ni(II). Moreover, for the addition of l-Ala and Cu(II), a particularly strong negative FET response was observed at pH 5.5. 相似文献

Since the application of the Lagrange relaxation method to the unit commitment scheduling by Muckstadt in 1979, many papers using this method have been published. The greatest advantage of applying the Lagrange relaxation method for the unit commitment problem is that it can relax (ignore) each generator's output dependency caused by the demand–supply balance constraint so that a unit commitment of each generator is determined independently by dynamic programming. However, when we introduce the transmission loss into the demand–supply balance constraint, we cannot decompose the problem into the partial problems in which each generator's unit commitment is determined independently and have to take some measures to obtain an optimal schedule by the Lagrange relaxation method directly. In this paper, we present an algorithm for the unit commitment schedule using the Lagrange relaxation method for the case of taking into account transmission losses. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Effect of different methods of internal thoracic artery harvest on pulmonary function 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
BACKGROUND: In several clinical studies, internal thoracic artery (ITA) grafting for myocardial revascularization has been identified as increasing the risk of postoperative pulmonary complications. This study was designed to determine whether the technique used to harvest the ITA has an effect on postoperative pulmonary function. METHODS: Seventy-nine consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting using the left ITA were compared with patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting using saphenous vein grafts only. Two methods of ITA harvesting were used: (1) incision of the endothoracic fascia dissected off the ITA as a skeletonized vessel (group 1, n = 33) and (2) mobilization of the ITA as a wide musculofascial pedicle (group 2, n = 46). Thirty-two patients underwent coronary artery bypass grafting using saphenous vein grafts only (group 3). Pulmonary function tests were performed between postoperative days 20 and 30. RESULTS: The postoperative values of forced vital capacity were reduced in patients in all groups (p < 0.0001). The ratios of postoperative to preoperative forced vital capacity were 84% in group 1, 77% in group 2, and 84% in group 3. The reduction in group 2 was significant compared with group 1 (p < 0.05) and group 3 (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative pulmonary dysfunction was significantly greater in patients who underwent wide musculofascial pedicle dissection of the ITA compared with skeletonization of the artery. Thus, of the two techniques, the latter may be the method of choice with regard to lowering the incidence of postoperative pulmonary dysfunction. 相似文献

In this study, two deposition methods (i.e. MOCVD and sputtering methods) to prepare n-type ZnO window layers for CIGS-based thin-film solar cells are discussed. In order to make ZnO : Al transparent conductive oxide (TCO) films prepared by DC magnetron sputtering comparable to ZnO : B TCO prepared by MOCVD, a new ZnO sputtering process is proposed by introducing a multilayer structure. Using these films, CIGS thin-film solar cells with efficiencies of greater than 14% have been fabricated with an active area of 3.2 cm2. This structure was adapted to fabricate CIGS thin-film mini-modules with efficiencies around 11% having aperture area of 50 cm2. 相似文献
