Total polyphenols, carotenoids and vitamin C were assessed in three different peaches cultivars (Prunus persica): ‘Luisa Berselli’ (LB), ‘Stark Earlyglo’ (SE) and ‘Maria Serena’ (MS). Total antioxidant capacity of fruits and plasma antioxidant
activity after ingestion of fruits were determined as Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) and as plasma total radical-trapping
potential (TRAP) respectively. The amount of polyphenols, carotenoids and vitamin C resulted to be generally similar in the
three cultivars. TEAC, measured from harvest to 7 days postharvest, resulted to be influenced mainly by vitamin C content,
whereas polyphenols and carotenoids seemed to play a secondary role. Although TEAC was similar in the three cultivars, only
LB significantly increased the TRAP in human plasma at 1, 2 and 4 h after ingestion of peaches. Sugar moiety, condensed and

Synthesis and antiproliferative activity of some ellipticine-like 11H-pyrido[a]carbazole derivatives
Some modified 11H-pyrido[a]carbazoles (11H-PyC) and their corresponding tetrahydro derivatives (11H-THPyC) were prepared. A common multistep pathway characterized by conventional reactions, including a Fischer-indole-type synthesis, yielded the tetracyclic compounds. To improve cytotoxicity, 11H-PyC and 11H-THPyC derivatives were endowed with a diethylaminoethyl side chain. The antiproliferative activity was assessed in three human tumor cell lines, and a number of derivatives showed a cytotoxic effect in agreement with their capacity to form a molecular intercalative complex with DNA and to interfere with the relaxation activity of DNA topoisomerase II. In contrast, three derivatives that exhibited significant antiproliferative efficacy, showed no inhibition of topoisomerase II, thus suggesting an unexpected and novel mode of action for these ellipticine-like compounds independent of topoisomerase II activity. 相似文献

This article is regarding the polymerization of 1,3‐butadiene with a neodymium catalyst activated by diisobutylaluminum‐hydride and diethylaluminum chloride (DEAC). The effects of the polymerization conditions (ratio between DEAC and neodymium molar concentrations, polymerization temperature, catalyst concentration, and butadiene concentration) on the polymer yield and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polybutadiene (PB) samples were evaluated. It is shown that the DEAC/Nd ratio and the polymerization temperature are the reaction variables that influence the MWD and the catalyst performance most significantly. PBs with broad and sometimes bimodal MWD were produced at the analyzed reaction conditions. For this reason, the MWD of the obtained polymer materials was deconvoluted with the help of the Flory most probable distribution, indicating that three or more catalyst sites are required to explain the final MWD of the polymer samples. Finally, it was observed that the analyzed neodymium catalyst is able to produce branched PBs at mild reaction conditions and that the branching frequency depends on the polymerization conditions, which may be useful for development of operation policies at plant site and production of materials with improved performances. Dually diagnosed patients with chemical dependency and a comorbid psychiatric disorder typically show poor compliance with aftercare treatment, which may result in costly and pervasive individual and societal problems. In this study, the authors investigated the effect of adding motivational interviewing in a group format to standard treatment for dually diagnosed psychiatric inpatients. The patients (n = 101) all received standard care and in addition were assigned to either group motivational interviewing (GMI) or a therapist attention activity control group (TAAC). Of patients who attended aftercare and who used alcohol or drugs, those who participated in GMI attended significantly more aftercare treatment sessions, consumed less alcohol, and engaged in less binge drinking at follow-up compared with those in TAAC. Differences between conditions in the overall percentage of participants who achieved complete abstinence or who attended aftercare treatment were not significant, possibly because of a lack of power. The possibility of using biomass as a source of energy in reducing green-house gas emissions is a matter of great interest. In particular, biomasse from agriculture represent one of the largest and most diversified sources to be exploited and more specifically, ethanol and diesel deriving from biomass have the potential to be a sustainable means of replacing fossil fuels for transportation. Nevertheless, the cultivation of dedicated energy crops does meet with some criticism (competitiveness with food crop cultivation, water requirements, use of fertilizers, etc.) and the economical and environmental advantages of this activity depend on accurate evaluations of the total efficiency of the production system. This paper illustrates the production potential of two energy crops, sunflower (Helianthus annuus) and maize (Zea mais), cultivated with different water and fertilization supplies in the region of Tuscany, in central Italy. A 50-year climatic series of 19 weather stations scattered around Tuscany was used to run the crop model CropSyst for obtaining crop biomass predictions. The effect of climate change and variability was analyzed and the potential production of bioenergy was investigated in terms of pure vegetable oil (sunflower) and bioethanol (maize). The results demonstrated that despite a reduction in crop yields and an increase of their variability due to climate change, the cultivation of maize in the regional set-aside areas would be capable of supplying approximately 50% of the energy requirements in terms of biofuel for transportation obtained, while the cultivation of a sunflower crops would supply less than 10%. 相似文献

Developing a Pt-based electrocatalytic material able to selectively catalyze hydrogen oxidation (HOR) while supressing oxygen reduction (ORR) is beneficial for durability of the fuel cells. Namely, degradation of carbon supported Pt particles is dramatically influenced by the unwanted ORR enrolling at the anode due to the air penetration during start-up/shut-down events. We present an organic matrix tris(aza)pentacene (TAP), which belongs to π-functional materials with ladder-like conjugated nitrogen-containing units, as the support for Pt to form a “smart” fuel cell anode able to selectively catalyze HOR and to suppress ORR. “Switching-on/off” of the composite material activity is provided by reversible reduction/oxidation of the TAP in the low potential region which provokes TAP - HxTAP transition. Conductivity of the reduced HxTAP enables supported Pt particles to effectively run HOR. In contrast, restricted conductivity of oxidized TAP analogue leads to the substantial drop in the ORR activity with respect to benchmark Pt/C catalyst. 相似文献

This report presents a comparison of the effects of cis- and trans-diamminedichloroplatinum complexes on in vitro platelet functions. Pretreatment of platelets with cis-platinum (cisplatin) induced a slow, dose-dependent (0.1-0.45 mM), increase in the cytosolic Ca2+ concentration, pleckstrin (47 kDa) phosphorylation and serotonin secretion, as well as a slight shape modification with emission of a few pseudopodia. All these effects were remarkably increased in platelets exposed to trans-platinum (transplatin). The rise in cytosolic Ca2+ concentration and serotonin secretion evoked by stimulation of platelets with thrombin were not significantly influenced by cellular exposure to cis-platinum, whereas they were enhanced and inhibited, respectively, by exposure to trans-platinum. Trans-platinum also inhibited thrombin-promoted platelet aggregation to a greater extent than the cis-isomer. While the viscosity of platelet rich-plasma tended to decrease in the presence of cis-platinum, it tended to increase in the presence of trans-platinum. Taken together, these results indicate that the effects on platelet functions of the efficacious antitumor complex cis-platinum is rather different from that of the inactive complex trans-platinum. Therefore, the in vitro tests of platelet functions employed in this study might provide an index of antitumor drug toxicity and serve as a preliminary indicator of therapeutic efficacy. 相似文献

Two missense mutants, A263P and S264P, and a deletion mutant des-Ala263, Ser264, have been constructed in the D1 protein of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp PCC 6803. All were expected to induce a significant conformational change in the QB-binding region of photosystem II (PSII). Although the des-Ala263, Ser264-D1 mutant accumulated some D1 protein in the thylakoid membrane it was unable to grow photoautotrophically or evolve oxygen. Thermoluminescence and chlorophyll fluorescence studies confirmed that this deletion mutant did not show any functional PSII activity. In contrast, [S264P]D1 was able to grow photoautotrophically and give light-saturated rates of oxygen evolution at 60% of the rate of the wild-type control strain, TC31. The A263P missense mutant was also able to evolve oxygen at 50% of TC31 rates although it did not readily grow photoautotrophically. Thermoluminescence, flash oxygen yield and chlorophyll fluorescence measurements indicated that in both missense mutants electron transfer from QA to QB was significantly impaired in dark adapted cells. However, QA to QB electron transfer could be photoactivated in the mutants by background illumination. Both the A263P and S264P mutants also showed an increase in resistance to the s-triazine family of herbicides although this feature did not hold for the phenolic herbicide, ioxynil. Of particular interest was that the two missense mutants, especially S264P, possessed a slower rate of turnover of the D1 protein compared with TC31 and in vivo contained detectable levels of a 41-kDa adduct consisting of D1 and the alpha subunit of cytochrome b559. When protein synthesis was blocked by the addition of lincomycin, D1 degradation was again slower in S264P than TC31. The results are discussed in terms of structural changes in the QB-binding region which affect herbicide and plastoquinone binding and perturb the normal regulatory factors that control the degradation of the D1 protein and its synchronisation with the synthesis of a replacement D1 protein. 相似文献

Periosteum was obtained within 10 days of injury from the site of 17 adult tibial diaphyseal fractures during internal fixation. Osteogenic cells, non-osteogenic cells and vascular elements were identified in situ using a variety of techniques. In all cases, the periosteum was thickened with randomly distributed plaques of cartilage and bone. Cells covering newly formed bone trabeculae expressed osteocalcin. Lectin-binding revealed high vascularity. Few mast cells were observed. Macrophages and acid phosphatase positive cells, some multinucleate, were observed in abundance. These findings suggest that the repair of the adult human diaphyseal fracture is similar to that of experimental fractures in rapidity of onset, high vascularity and in bone and cartilage formation. They differ in the fact that chondrogenesis and osteogenesis appear to be simultaneous in human fractures but sequential in experimental fractures. The paucity of mast cells suggests that they probably play no significant role in the repair of the human fractures. 相似文献
