Thermobaric stratification was investigated in very deep lakes of elongated shape. We considered the spring time configuration when large freshwater lakes may have their deepest recirculation. In five very deep freshwater lakes in Norway, profiles were measured in spring 2006 with multiparameter probes. Temperature profiles confirmed thermobaric stratification in all of these lakes, i.e. the temperature profiles crossed the 4 °C line and thus were affected by pressure effects on the temperature of maximum density. Electrical conductance was low in all of the investigated lakes, and vertical gradients were too small to play a role in the density stratification. In all lakes, deep water was well supplied with oxygen. Three out of five lakes showed a temperature gradient close to Eklund's stability theorem. However, the remaining two lakes clearly opposed the theorem. Bottom temperatures were more closely related to lake length than their maximum depths. Oxygen saturation profiles documented recent intensive gas exchange with the atmosphere. They agree well with the possible formation of deep water from density driven flows at horizontal temperature gradients close to 4 °C.  相似文献

The pelagic fishery of Lake Tanganyika, which is largely made up of the three species Lates stappersii, Limnothrissa miodon, and Stolothrissa tanganicae, has been in decline, and there is no clear understanding of the primary underlying causes. It has been suggested that climate change has altered the primary productivity of the system, but detailed knowledge of the system's food web is required to elucidate the effect on higher trophic levels. The aim of this study is to determine the diet of the three commercially important fish species. Muscle tissue samples for stable isotope analysis were taken from February through April 2017, supplemented with stomach samples from L. stappersii for use in stomach content analysis. The stomach analysis showed an ontogenetic change in the diet composition of L. stappersii, shifting from copepods to fish larvae, supplemented with shrimp, to whole fish prey as the fish grew larger. Stable carbon and nitrogen isotope values from fish muscle were consistent with this observation, and also seemed to indicate that fish of similar sizes had similar diets, irrespective of species. This suggests that the diet of the pelagic fish species might be better explained by size, rather than species. The isotope data revealed a short range of δ15N values from primary consumers to fish, which may help explain the high fisheries productivity of Lake Tanganyika, and the strong impact of primary productivity changes on fisheries yield.  相似文献

Summary Gas chromatography has been employed to determine partial molar free energies of sorption, C1 s, as well as partial molar free energies of mixing, C1 , of atactic poly(styrene) with linear and branched alkanes (C6-C9), alkenes (C8), cyclohexane and alkylbenzenes (Ph-H to PhC6H13) within the temperature range from 403 to 463 K. The influence of nature and constitution of the solute molecule on sorption and mixing properties in poly(styrene) are discussed in terms of the competing group contributions of the components. Knowledge of this influence may be transduced to understand polymer-polymer compatibility. The cohesive energy density concept has been used to calculate the infinite dilution solubility parameter for the polymer, with the aid of G 1 . From the high temperature range the HILDEBRAND parameter 2 was extrapolated to 298 K. The value obtained, 9.14, indicates that gas chromatography is an promising alternative to the conventional methods for determination of the solubility parameter for polymers.Herrn Prof. Dr. R. C. The amino acids GABA and glycine mediate synaptic transmission via specific neurotransmitter receptors. Molecular cloning studies have shown that there is a great diversity of GABA and glycine receptors. In the present article, the distribution of GABA and glycine receptors on identified bipolar and ganglion cell types in the mammalian retina is reviewed. Immunofluorescence obtained with antibodies against GABA and glycine receptors is punctate. Electron microscopy shows that the puncta represent a cluster of receptors at synaptic sites. Bipolar cell types were identified with immunohistochemical markers. Double immunofluorescence with subunit-specific antibodies was used to analyze the distribution of receptor clusters on bipolar axon terminals. The OFF cone bipolar cells seem to be dominated by glycinergic input, whereas the ON cone bipolar and rod bipolar cells are dominated by GABAergic input. Ganglion cells were intracellularly injected with Neurobiotin, visualized with Streptavidin coupled to FITC, and subsequently stained with subunit specific antibodies. The distribution and density of receptor clusters containing the alpha1 subunit of the GABA(A) receptor and the alpha1 subunit of the glycine receptor, respectively, were analyzed on midget and parasol cells in the marmoset (a New World monkey). Both GABA(A) and glycine receptors are distributed uniformly along the dendrites of ON and OFF types of parasol and midget ganglion cells, indicating that functional differences between these subtypes of ganglion cells are not determined by GABA or glycinergic input.  相似文献

The calculation of the intrinsic efficiency of individual crystals is one of the steps needed to obtain accurate images of the radioisotope distribution in positron emission tomography (PET). These efficiencies can be computed by comparing the number of coincidence counts obtained when the crystals are equally illuminated by the same source. However, because the number of coincidence counts acquired for one crystal also depends on the efficiency of the other crystals in coincidence, most methods of crystal efficiency calculation need to assume that the influence of the other crystals is negligible. If there are large crystal efficiency variations, this approximation may lead to systematic errors. We have recently implemented an iterative method for a single ring of detectors that does not rely on this assumption. In this paper, we describe a fully three-dimensional (3-D) iterative method that better exploits the sensitivity of the tomograph and allows reduced acquisition times or the use of narrow energy windows. We compare the performance of the iterative method (single-ring and extended to fully 3-D) with noniterative techniques for different acquisition times of a uniform cylinder. Two different energy windows were used to assess the performance of each method with different levels of variations of crystal efficiency. The results showed that the iterative methods are more accurate when large efficiency variations exist and that only the fully 3-D methods provided good efficiency estimates with very low duration scans. We, thus, conclude that iterative fully 3-D methods provide the best estimations and can be used in a larger range of situations than can the other methods tested.  相似文献

The plastic behaviour of single-phaseγ-TiAl poses a certain number of fundamental problems as to the origin of the flow stress anomaly and to how this is related to dislocation properties. Understanding these questions is of significant interest in the investigations of flow stress anomalies in intermetallics and in other materials. Also, it may reveal useful in the study of theγ-based lamellar alloys. The present contribution accounts for an investigation of mechanical properties and microstructural organization conducted in Al-richγ-TiAl single crystals oriented to activate single slip. Three separate topics are addressed.
(I)  1/2 〈110] ordinary dislocations after deformation between room temperature and 800°C. The magnitude of the cusping appears to depend on the chronology of dislocation immobilization. The distribution of pinning points is analysed and the temperature dependence of their density confronted to that of the flow stress.
(II)  The core structure of 〈011] dislocations. After deformation at room temperature, 〈011] dislocations are dissociated into two partials separated by a stacking fault. The role of temperature and possible transitions of the dissociation are addressed.
(III)  The observation and analysis of background striations which cover the thin foils entirely. The striations are shown to be a deformation by-product resulting from the passage of perfect dislocations of the L10 structure, and from the interaction of these with a short-range ordered (SRO) Ti3Al5 phase. Striations can serve to discuss the absence of slip localization and the properties of cross-slip.
