In this study we examined the lymphatic transport in rats of FA after administration of interesterified oils containing CLA, with emphasis on the location of CLA and octanoic acid in the TAG. The oils were produced by enzymatic interesterification. Eight oils with different structures or FA profiles were examined in this study: MCM, CMC, OCO, and COC, where M was expected to be octanoic acid and O oleic acid. In group 1, C was CLA as a mixture of the two CLA isomers c9, t11 or t10, c12, and in group 2, C was mainly the isomer t10, c12. Rats were subjected to cannulation of the mesenteric lymph duct, and the following day they were intragastrically administered one of the oils and lymph samples were collected for 24 h. The lymphatic transport of total FA from 0 to 8 h in group 1 was significantly (P < 0.05) higher for the OCO-1 and the COC-1 oils than for the CMC-1 oil. Similarly, in group 2 the transport was higher for the OCO-2 oil than for the CMC-2 oil. The recovery of both of the CLA isomers examined was similar (50-70%) and independent of the isomer, oil structure, and FA profile, whereas more octanoic acid was recovered from the CMC oils than from the MCM oils. The results indicated that the FA profiles and the position of octanoic acid had only a minor influence on the absorption of CLA.  相似文献

In this work we have compared and contrasted the pervaporation behaviour (separation factor and flux) of fluorosilicone dense membranes based on poly(trifluoropropylmethylsiloxane) (PTFPMS) with poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) dense membranes. In particular, pervaporation experiments were carried out at 298 K using lab-made PTFPMS, lab-made PDMS and commercial PDMS membranes in order to remove three different organic liquids pyridine (PY), isopropanol (IPA) and methylethylketone (MEK) from dilute (<10 wt.%) binary aqueous mixtures. All of the silicone membranes studied were found to be successful for the desired separations. The permeation flux of pyridine–water liquid mixtures for the PTFPMS membranes was found to increase with the pyridine concentration in the feed mixtures. The separation factor for PDMS membranes for the removal of pyridine, IPA and MEK from aqueous binary mixtures (1 wt.%) was found to be higher than that of PTFPMS membranes while the normalized flux was higher for PTFPMS membranes under identical test conditions. The effect of crosslink density of the PTFPMS membranes on the separation of pyridine–water mixtures was also studied. For a 1 wt.% feed solution the total flux increased with the molar mass between crosslinks, whereas the separation factor for pyridine–water was highest for a molar mass between crosslinks of 15,320 g mol−1.  相似文献

Social insects maintain colony cohesion by recognizing and, if necessary, discriminating against conspecifics that are not part of the colony. This recognition ability is encoded by a complex mixture of cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs), although it is largely unclear how social insects interpret such a multifaceted signal. CHC profiles often contain several series of homologous hydrocarbons, possessing the same methyl branch position but differing in chain length (e.g., 15-methyl-pentatriacontane, 15-methyl-heptatriacontane, 15-methyl-nonatriacontane). Recent studies have revealed that within species these homologs can occur in correlated concentrations. In such cases, single compounds may convey the same information as the homologs. In this study, we used behavioral bioassays to explore how social insects perceive and interpret different hydrocarbons. We tested the aggressive response of Argentine ants, Linepithema humile, toward nest-mate CHC profiles that were augmented with one of eight synthetic hydrocarbons that differed in branch position, chain length, or both. We found that Argentine ants showed similar levels of aggression toward nest-mate CHC profiles augmented with compounds that had the same branch position but differed in chain length. Conversely, Argentine ants displayed different levels of aggression toward nest-mate CHC profiles augmented with compounds that had different branch positions but the same chain length. While this was true in almost all cases, one CHC we tested elicited a greater aggressive response than its homologs. Interestingly, this was the only compound that did not occur naturally in correlated concentrations with its homologs in CHC profiles. Combined, these data suggest that CHCs of a homologous series elicit the same aggressive response because they convey the same information, rather than Argentine ants being unable to discriminate between different homologs. This study contributes to our understanding of the chemical basis of nestmate recognition by showing that, similar to spoken language, the chemical language of social insects contains “synonyms,” chemicals that differ in structure, but not meaning.  相似文献

Most structural materials are polycrystalline aggregates whose constituent crystals are irregular in shape, have anisotropic mechanical properties and contain a variety of defects, resulting in very complicated damage evolution. Failure models of these materials remain empirically calibrated due to the lack of a thorough understanding of the controlling processes at the scale of the materials’ heterogeneity, i.e. the mesoscale. This paper describes a novel formulation for a quantitative, microstructure-sensitive three-dimensional mesoscale prediction of ductile damage of polycrystalline materials, in the important void growth phase of the process. Specifically, we have extended a formulation based on fast Fourier transforms to compute growth of intergranular voids in porous polycrystalline materials. In this way, two widely used micromechanical formulations, i.e. polycrystal plasticity and dilatational plasticity, have been efficiently combined, with crystals and voids represented explicitly, to predict porosity evolution. The proposed void growth algorithm is first validated by comparison with corresponding finite-element unit cell results. Next, in order to isolate the influence of microstructure on void growth, the extended formulation is applied to a face-centered cubic polycrystal with uniform texture and intergranular cavities, and to a porous material with homogenous isotropic matrix and identical initial porosity distribution. These simulations allow us to assess the effect of the matrix’s polycrystallinity on porosity evolution. Microstructural effects, such as the influence of the Taylor factor of the crystalline ligaments linking interacting voids, were predicted and qualitatively confirmed by post-shocked microstrostructural characterization of polycrystalline copper.  相似文献

Mutations in GBA1, the gene encoding glucocerebrosidase, are common genetic risk factors for Parkinson disease (PD). While the mechanism underlying this relationship is unclear, patients with GBA1-associated PD often have an earlier onset and faster progression than idiopathic PD. Previously, we modeled GBA1-associated PD by crossing gba haploinsufficient mice with mice overexpressing a human mutant α-synuclein transgene (SNCAA53T), observing an earlier demise, shorter life span and faster symptom progression, although behavioral testing was not performed. To assess whether gba+/−//SNCAA53T mice exhibit a prodromal behavioral phenotype, we studied three cardinal PD features: olfactory discrimination, memory dysfunction, and motor function. The longitudinal performance of gba+///SNCAA53T (n = 8), SNCAA53T (n = 9), gba+/ (n = 10) and wildtype (n = 6) mice was evaluated between ages 8 and 23 months using the buried pellet test, novel object recognition test and the beam walk. Fifteen-month-old gba+///SNCAA53T mice showed more olfactory and motor deficits than wildtype mice. However, differences between gba+///SNCAA53T and SNCAA53T mice generally did not reach statistical significance, possibly due to small sample sizes. Furthermore, while gba haploinsufficiency leads to a more rapid demise, this might not result in an earlier prodromal stage, and other factors, including aging, oxidative stress and epigenetics, may contribute to the more fulminant disease course.  相似文献

Fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT) is a disease that causes thrombocytopenia and a risk of bleeding in the (unborn) child that result from maternal alloantibodies directed against fetal, paternally inherited, human platelet antigens (HPA). It is hypothesized that these alloantibodies can also bind to the placenta, causing placental damage. This study aims to explore signs of antibody-mediated placental damage in FNAIT. We performed a retrospective study that included pregnant women, their newborns, and placentas. It comprised 23 FNAIT cases, of which nine were newly diagnosed (14 samples) and 14 were antenatally treated with intravenous immune globulins (IVIg) (21 samples), and 20 controls, of which 10 had anti-HLA-class I antibodies. Clinical information was collected from medical records. Placental samples were stained for complement activation markers (C1q, C4d, SC5b-9, and mannose-binding lectin) using immunohistochemistry. Histopathology was examined according to the Amsterdam criteria. A higher degree of C4d deposition was present in the newly diagnosed FNAIT cases (10/14 samples), as compared to the IVIg-treated FNAIT cases (2/21 samples, p = 0.002) and anti-HLA-negative controls (3/20 samples, p = 0.006). A histopathological examination showed delayed maturation in four (44%) placentas in the newly diagnosed FNAIT cases, five (36%) in the IVIg-treated FNAIT cases, and one in the controls (NS). C4d deposition at the syncytiotrophoblast was present in combination with low-grade villitis of unknown etiology in three newly diagnosed FNAIT cases that were born SGA. We conclude that a higher degree of classical pathway-induced complement activation is present in placentas from pregnancies with untreated FNAIT. This may affect placental function and fetal growth.  相似文献

Sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) is a nuisance species in the Laurentian Great Lakes and Lake Champlain that has devastated native fish populations and hampered sport fisheries development. We developed a modified stage-based life history matrix for sea lamprey to analyze the effects of various management efforts to suppress sea lamprey population growth in Lake Champlain. These efforts targeted different life stages of the sea lamprey life cycle. A beta distribution was used to distribute stochastic larval populations among twenty sea lamprey-bearing tributaries and five deltas to Lake Champlain, from which sea lamprey that survive through larval metamorphosis were then pooled into a lake-wide parasitic-phase population. Parasitic-phase survival to the spawning stage was evaluated based on proximity to the natal tributary and on the size of the resident larval population in each tributary. Potential control strategies were modeled at egg to emergence, larval, and spawning stages to reduce vital rates at each stage, with the goal of suppressing parasitic-phase production. Simulations indicate that control of the larval stage was essential to achieving this goal, and with supplemental effort to reduce the vital rates at early life stages and at the spawning stage, the parasitic-phase population can be further suppressed. Sensitivity simulations indicate that the life history model was sensitive to egg deposition rate, abundance of parasitic-phase sea lamprey from unknown, uncontrolled sources, and the method in which parasitic-phase sea lamprey select tributaries for spawning. Results from this model can guide management agencies to optimize future management programs.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Asphaltene onset concentration and bulk deposition were measured for a typical live reservoir oil titrated with n-C6H14, n-C5H12, n-C4H10, C3H8, C2H6, CH4 and CO2 at 100° C (212 ° F) and 29.9 MPa (4340 psia). The concentration of titrant at asphaltene onset was observed to decrease approximately in a linear fashion with decreasing molecular weight of the paraffinic solvent; CH4 did not induce any asphaltene precipitation. Bulk deposition experiments were performed using a solvent: oil volume ratio of 10:1; the results indicated that the weight percent of asphaltenes precipitated increased exponentially with decreasing molecular weight of the paraffinic solvents. More importantly, the asphaltene molecular weight showed a maximum for n-C4H10 precipitated asphaltenes. Possible explanations for this unusual result are presented.  相似文献
