Clinical lore and much of the previous literature has maintained that schizophrenics are far less susceptible to hypnosis than are normals. A few studies have reported success with hypnotizing schizophrenics, but have lacked a methodology which would permit comparison with normal Ss to be made. In this study, 26 Ss with a hospital diagnosis of schizophrenia were given the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale—a verbatim induction technique and rating scale for which data on a normal, standardization group is available. The Ss gave results much like the normal group. Reasons for the difference between this and previous findings are discussed, including the hypothesis that previous workers found schizophrenics to be different in hypnotizability from normals because they treated them differently than they would normals. We report a quantitative proteomics data analysis pipeline, which coupled to protein-directed dynamic combinatorial chemistry (DDC) experiments, enables the rapid discovery and direct characterization of protein-protein interaction (PPI) modulators. A low-affinity PD-1 binder was incubated with a library of >100 D-peptides under thiol-exchange favoring conditions, in the presence of the target protein PD-1, and we determined the S-linked dimeric species that resulted, amplified in the protein samples versus the controls. We chemically synthesized the target dimer candidates and validated them by thermophoresis binding and protein-protein interaction assays. The results provide a proof-of-concept for using this strategy in the high-throughput search of improved drug-like peptide binders that block therapeutically relevant protein-protein interactions.  相似文献

Rechargeable aqueous Zn/S batteries exhibit high capacity and energy density. However, the long-term battery performance is bottlenecked by the sulfur side reactions and serious Zn anode dendritic growth in the aqueous electrolyte medium. This work addresses the problem of sulfur side reactions and zinc dendrite growth simultaneously by developing a unique hybrid aqueous electrolyte using ethylene glycol as a co-solvent. The designed hybrid electrolyte enables the fabricated Zn/S battery to deliver an unprecedented capacity of 1435 mAh g−1 and an excellent energy density of 730 Wh kg−1 at 0.1 Ag−1. In addition, the battery exhibits capacity retention of 70% after 250 cycles even at 3 Ag−1. Moreover, the cathode charge–discharge mechanism studies demonstrate a multi-step conversion reaction. During discharge, the elemental sulfur is sequentially reduced by Zn to S2− ( S 8 S x 2 S 2 2 + S 2 ) ${{\rm{S}}_8}{\bm{ \to }}{\rm{S}}_{\rm{x}}^{2{\bm{ - }}}{\bm{ \to }}{\rm{S}}_2^{2{\bm{ - }}}{\bm{ + }}{{\rm{S}}^{2{\bm{ - }}}})$ , forming ZnS. On charging, the ZnS and short-chain polysulfides will oxidize back to elemental sulfur. This electrolyte design strategy and unique multi-step electrochemistry of the Zn/S system provide a new pathway in tackling both key issues of Zn dendritic growth and sulfur side reactions, and also in designing better Zn/S batteries in the future.  相似文献

Historically, the best lubrication performance has been achieved by the use of synthetic fluids, such as polyalphaolefins or esters. Advanced commercial processing techniques for producing base oils through significant molecular change are now available. In many applications, automotive and industrial products formulated with these high‐quality API Group III speciality base fluids can achieve the same good performance as that from traditional synthetic fluids. This paper represents continued work to understand and demonstrate features of very high viscosity index (VHVI) speciality base fluids. Ultimately, the performance of a finished fluid is the key market requirement. Actual field performance can vary dramatically, even among polyalphaolefin‐based formulations. Several examples are given to show that equivalent high‐level synthetic performance can be delivered through a synergistic balance of VHVI speciality base fluids and additive chemistry.  相似文献

Thalassemia syndrome is a genetic blood disorder induced by the reduction of normal hemoglobin production, resulting in a drop in the size of red blood cells. In severe forms, it can lead to death. This genetic disorder has posed a major burden on public health wherein patients with severe thalassemia need periodic therapy of iron chelation and blood transfusion for survival. Therefore, controlling thalassemia is extremely important and is made by promoting screening to the general population, particularly among thalassemia carriers. Today Twitter is one of the most influential social media platforms for sharing opinions and discussing different topics like people’s health conditions and major public health affairs. Exploring individuals’ sentiments in these tweets helps the research centers to formulate strategies to promote thalassemia screening to the public. An effective Lexiconbased approach has been introduced in this study by highlighting a classifier called valence aware dictionary for sentiment reasoning (VADER). In this study applied twitter intelligence tool (TWINT), Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK), and VADER constitute the three main tools. VADER represents a gold-standard sentiment lexicon, which is basically tailored to attitudes that are communicated by using social media. The contribution of this study is to introduce an effective Lexicon-based approach by highlighting a classifier called VADER to analyze the sentiment of the general population, particularly among thalassemia carriers on the social media platform Twitter. In this study, the results showed that the proposed approach achieved 0.829, 0.816, and 0.818 regarding precision, recall, together with F-score, respectively. The tweets were crawled using the search keywords, “thalassemia screening,” thalassemia test, “and thalassemia diagnosis”. Finally, results showed that India and Pakistan ranked the highest in mentions in tweets by the public’s conversations on thalassemia screening with 181 and 164 tweets, respectively.  相似文献
