A detailed study of the thermal and strain sensitivities of a long-period grating when the device is immersed in different external media is presented. The range of refractive indices analyzed are within 1.000 to 1.447, corresponding to samples of air, water, ethanol, naphtha, thinner, turpentine, and kerosene. Within the same range of refractive indices, the strain sensitivity is between (-0.24 +/- 0.03) and (-0.94 +/- 0.11) pm/microepsilon. For the grating immersed in these fluids, the refractive index sensitivity ranges from -3 to -1035.6 nm per refractive index units. The coupling thermo-optic coefficients and the strain-optic coefficients are also measured, resulting in the range from (2.45 +/- 0.04)x10(-5) to (15.89 +/- 0.82)x10(-5) deg C(-1) and (-1.15 +/- 0.04) to (-1.61 +/- 0.04) microepsilon(-1), respectively. A noticeable nonlinear behavior of the thermal sensitivity is found for external media with refractive indices higher than 1.430.  相似文献

Herein, for the first time, the potential relationships between the cytoskeleton-associated proteins DAAM1 and PREP with different testicular disorders, such as classic seminoma (CS), Leydig cell tumor (LCT), and Sertoli cell-only syndrome (SOS), were evaluated. Six CS, two LCT, and two SOS tissue samples were obtained during inguinal exploration in patients with a suspect testis tumor based on clinical examination and ultrasonography. DAAM1 and PREP protein levels and immunofluorescent localization were analyzed. An increased DAAM1 protein level in CS and SOS as compared to non-pathological (NP) tissue was observed, while LCT showed no significant differences. Conversely, PREP protein level increased in LCT, while it decreased in CS and SOS compared to NP tissue. These results were strongly supported by the immunofluorescence staining, revealing an altered localization and signal intensity of DAAM1 and PREP in the analyzed samples, highlighting a perturbed cytoarchitecture. Interestingly, in LCT spermatogonia, a specific DAAM1 nuclear localization was found, probably due to an enhanced testosterone production, as confirmed by the increased protein levels of steroidogenic enzymes. Finally, although further studies are needed to verify the involvement of other formins and microtubule-associated proteins, this report raised the opportunity to indicate DAAM1 and PREP as new potential markers, supporting the cytoskeleton dynamics changes occurring during normal and/or pathological cell differentiation.  相似文献

Na2O· x Al2O3 ( x = 9, 11)films have been obtained by sol–gel method. Crystallization processes during heat treatments have been investigated by X–ray diffraction analysis. A metastable phase with the mullite structure, λ–Na2O· x Al2O3, has been observed starting from 800°C. Films remained stable after a heat treatment at 1000°C for 250 h. Impedance spectroscopy measurements showed that the films of λ-Na2O· x Al2O3 possess a large three–dimensional ionic conductivity at 400°C.  相似文献

Sol–gel derived silica (SiO2) films doped with nickel oxide (NiO) nanocrystals were fabricated. A bifunctional ligand was used, bearing amine groups capable of coordinating the nickel ions and hydrolysable siloxane groups for anchoring the metal complex moiety to the silicate matrix. Nickel oxide nanocrystals precipitated at 500°C while the film was still porous. The nanocomposite films showed a reversible change in the optical transmittance in the VIS-NIR range when exposed to carbon monoxide gas. The effects of residual porosity, testing temperature, and carbon monoxide gas concentration on optical transmittance were studied.  相似文献

Amyloid aggregation is a hallmark of several degenerative diseases affecting the brain or peripheral tissues, whose intermediates (oligomers, protofibrils) and final mature fibrils display different toxicity. Consequently, compounds counteracting amyloid aggregation have been investigated for their ability (i) to stabilize toxic amyloid precursors; (ii) to prevent the growth of toxic oligomers or speed that of fibrils; (iii) to inhibit fibril growth and deposition; (iv) to disassemble preformed fibrils; and (v) to favor amyloid clearance. Natural phenols, a wide panel of plant molecules, are one of the most actively investigated categories of potential amyloid inhibitors. They are considered responsible for the beneficial effects of several traditional diets being present in green tea, extra virgin olive oil, red wine, spices, berries and aromatic herbs. Accordingly, it has been proposed that some natural phenols could be exploited to prevent and to treat amyloid diseases, and recent studies have provided significant information on their ability to inhibit peptide/protein aggregation in various ways and to stimulate cell defenses, leading to identify shared or specific mechanisms. In the first part of this review, we will overview the significance and mechanisms of amyloid aggregation and aggregate toxicity; then, we will summarize the recent achievements on protection against amyloid diseases by many natural phenols.  相似文献
