Self-healing of defects imposed by external stimuli such as high energy radiation is a possibility to sustain the operational lifetime of electronic devices such as radiation detectors. Cs3Bi2Br3I6 polycrystalline wafers are introduced here as novel X-ray detector material, which not only guarantees a high X-ray stopping power due to its composition with elements with high atomic numbers, but also outperforms other Bi-based semiconductors in respect to detector parameters such as detection limit, transient behavior, or dark current. The polycrystalline wafers represent a size scalable technology suitable for future integration in imager devices for medical applications. Most astonishingly, aging of these wafer-based devices results in an overall improvement of the detector performance—dark currents are reduced, photocurrents are increased, and one of the most problematic properties of X-ray detectors, the base line drift is reduced by orders of magnitude. These aging induced improvements indicate self-healing effects which are shown to result from recrystallization. Optimized synthetic conditions also improve the as prepared X-ray detectors; however, the aged device outperforms all others. Thus, self-healing acts in Cs3Bi2Br3I6 as an optimization tool, which is certainly not restricted to this single compound, it is expected to be beneficial also for many further polycrystalline ionic semiconductors.  相似文献

In the rat, both fish oil diet and thyroid hormone replacement are reported to augment bile cholesterol secretion out of proportion to bile flow or secretion of other bile lipids. We sought common mechanisms for these effects and evaluated the role of phospholipid fatty acid composition in the process. Methimazole-treated hypothyroid rats were fed low-fat chow or chow supplemented with 10% corn oil or fish oil, and were studied before and after thyroid hormone treatment. Serum, hepatic, and bile lipids were measured, phospholipid fatty acid composition determined, and hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl CoA reductase activity assayed. Fish oil diet stimulated cholesterol secretion into bile only after thyroid hormone was given, and this action was synergistic with that of thyroid hormone. Reduced serum cholesterol in fish oil-treated rats was associated with increased biliary cholesterol secretion and diminished hepatic cholesterol content. This suggests that augmented biliary cholesterol secretion may contribute to the fish oil-induced reduction of serum cholesterol. No definite relationship between hepatic or biliary phospholipid fatty acid composition and biliary secretion was apparent, although high bile cholesterol secretion was associated with a low percentage of hepatic and bile phospholipid linoleic acid.  相似文献

Potent combinations of antiretroviral drugs diminish the turnover of CD4+ T lymphocytes productively infected with HIV-1 and reduce the large pool of virions deposited in lymphoid tissue (LT). To determine to what extent suppression of viral replication and reduction in viral antigens in LT might lead correspondingly to repopulation of the immune system, we characterized CD4+ T lymphocyte populations in LT in which we previously had quantitated viral load and turnover of infected cells before and after treatment. We directly measured by quantitative image analysis changes in total CD4+ T cell counts, the CD45RA+ subset, and fractions of proliferating or apoptotic CD4+ T cells. Compared with normal controls, we documented decreased numbers of CD4+ T cells and increased proliferation and apoptosis. After treatment, proliferation returned to normal levels, and total CD4+ T and CD45RA+ cells increased. We discuss the effects of HIV-1 on this subset based on the concept that renewal mechanisms in the adult are operating at full capacity before infection and cannot meet the additional demand imposed by the loss of productively infected cells. The slow increases in the CD45RA+ CD4+ T cells are consistent with the optimistic conclusions that (i) renewal mechanisms have not been damaged irreparably even at relatively advanced stages of infection and (ii) CD4+ T cell populations can be partially restored by control of active replication without eradication of HIV-1.  相似文献

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a promising joining technology that is quickly becoming the preferred joining process for a wide range of applications. Because of their high static values, the process forces occurring during FSW still are a major factor concerning the development or the choice of friction stir welding machines. However, until now, the vast majority of research projects only consider the static force components or the maximum loads that occur during a given welding operation. But, like during turning or milling, the tool does generate oscillating process forces that induce vibrations into the machine structure and should not be neglected. Thus, the key aspect of this work is the comprehensive characterization of the dynamical nature of the process forces and their effect on the machine structure. These results are then used for the development of a process force model and the design of a machine model to simulate the response to these loads. These two models are combined in one simulation environment and interact with each other to predict the process stability for a certain combination of process parameters and machine.  相似文献

Abradable coatings have been used in low- and high-pressure sections of jet engine compressors for more than 40 years. Today, they are also used in the high-pressure turbine of jet engines and are gaining more interest for applications in industrial gas turbines. They minimise the clearance between the rotating blade tips and the stationary liners. Aside from being abradable, the coatings have to be mechanically stable and withstand high thermo-mechanical loadings. A typical material used in engines today is yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ). This material advantageously combines a suitable thermal conductivity with a high thermal expansion coefficient, but shows a temperature capability limited to 1200 °C in long-term applications. Typical abradable coating thicknesses are above 1 mm. With increasing coating thickness and limited cooling efficiency leading to high surface temperatures, there is a risk of premature failure. As a result, new ceramic materials have been developed with better high-temperature capability. The present work investigates an atmospheric plasma sprayed ceramic double-layer coating system composed of 7YSZ as an intermediate layer and magnesia alumina spinel as a top layer.This double-layer system was sprayed onto disc-shaped Inconel 738 superalloy substrates, which were coated with a vacuum plasma sprayed MCrAlY bondcoat. The lifetime of the coating system was assessed via thermal gradient cycling testing with surface temperatures above 1400 °C. During cycling, the samples showed a typical failure mechanism with exfoliation of thin coating lamellae starting from the coating surface. This failure mechanism was not observed in thermal barrier or abradable coatings in the past. The failure mechanism was analysed and mismatch stress calculations were carried out.  相似文献

In nephropathic cystinosis, corneal cystine crystals cause severe photophobia and corneal erosions. Topical cysteamine dissolves these crystals, but cannot be marketed because it rapidly oxidizes to the disulfide form, cystamine, at room temperature. Since cystamine itself could be used commercially, we compared the efficacy of cystamine and cysteamine with respect to cystine crystal dissolution in a randomized, double-masked clinical trial. One eye each of 14 patients with cystinosis was randomized to either cystamine or cysteamine, 0.5%, with 0.01% benzalkonium chloride; the companion eye was treated with the alternate preparation. Corneal crystals were photographed and a density score was assigned to each slide based on 13 standard slides. After 8-20 months, 6 patients showed significant reduction of the corneal crystal score in only one eye. In each case, the improved eye was the cysteamine-treated eye. Theoretically, cysteamine should dissolve both intracellular and extracellular crystals, whereas cystamine should dissolve only intracellular crystals because it must first be reduced to the free thiol by the cytoplasmic-reducing environment. Hence, the lack of efficacy of the disulfide cystamine suggests that some corneal cystine crystals in cystinosis patients are extracellular, and that another form of stable, topical cysteamine must be developed for cystinosis patients.  相似文献

This article describes the design and first implementation of a virtual broadcast system whereby a multimedia content program can be edited, produced, and streamed from different locations. Data are stored and distributed decentrally, allowing multiple combinations of program objects to new programs. The virtual broadcast station is the network. This concept additionally offers the clients the opportunity to obtain an individual (personalized) program, still using bandwidth-economic multicast technologies. This is achieved by dividing multimedia streams into temporal chunks (chunk streams), streamed over different multicast host groups (distributed multicasting), using existing Internet session control protocols (SDP) and Internet transport protocols (RTP). A client application assembles the transmitted chunks to form an individual program. This technique can also be used to insert personal/local advertisements into broadcast-like services  相似文献

The present paper deals with the analysis of the disintegration process of both subcooled and superheated sprays generated in a flat spray nozzle. Both the macroscopic structures of a spray, such as the breakup-length and the spray-angle, and its microscopic structures, such as the number, the size, the location, and the velocities of the generated droplets as a function of varying injection conditions have been investigated. The short time holography has been applied as the measuring technique. Two holograms of the generated spray are taken simultaneously which results in two three-dimensional (3-D) reconstructions of the spray, seen from different directions. Computer based algorithms have been developed to determine the quantities to be measured that are stored on the holograms. A stereo-matching module correlates both views and determines the position and/or the velocity of each droplet. The applicability of the employed holographic technique and of the filtering and correlating modules is proven by the presented results.  相似文献
