Widespread posttraumatic spinal subdural hematoma--imaging findings with spontaneous resolution: case report

A 63-year-old man developed paraparesis and signs of meningeal irritation 4 days after a fall which caused a minor contusion of the cervical spine. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an extensive spinal subdural hematoma. The usefulness of MRI for diagnosis and successful conservative treatment is discussed.     

Extrathymic differentiation of resident T cells in the joints of mice with collagen-induced arthritis

Murine collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is known as a T cell-mediated autoimmune disease, although autoantibodies are also suspected to be associated with the onset of the disease. To determine the origin of such T cells in the joints of mice with CIA, their phenotypic properties as well as those of T cells in other immune organs were examined in DBA/1 mice. Since a significant number of mononuclear cells (MNC) was also yielded by the joints of normal DBA/1 mice, the properties of these T cells were examined in parallel. When CIA was induced by an intradermal injection of type II collagen at the base of the tail, the numbers of MNC yielded by the regional lymph nodes and the foot joints were doubled. Interestingly, regardless of the onset of CIA, the joints were always comprised of unique T cell populations, including IL-2(R)alpha- beta+ T cells, gammadelta T cells, CD8alpha+ beta- cells, and CD44+ L-selectin- cells. All these properties coincide with those of extrathymic T cells in liver and intestine. In the case of gammadelta T cells in joints, Vgamma and Vdelta usages were unique and different from those in the other organs. More importantly, Vgamma and Vdelta usages in gammadelta T cells in the joints of normal mice and in those of mice with CIA were essentially the same. Taken together with the expression of recombination-activating gene-1 and -2 mRNAs by MNC in mice with CIA, these findings raise the possibility that the joints have their own resident T cells that are extrathymically generated in situ.     

Adeno-associated virus 2-mediated high efficiency gene transfer into immature and mature subsets of hematopoietic progenitor cells in human umbilical cord blood

Recombinant adeno-associated virus 2 (AAV) virions were constructed containing a gene for resistance to neomycin (neoR), under the control of either the herpesvirus thymidine kinase (TK) gene promoter (vTK-Neo), or the human parvovirus B19 p6 promoter (vB19-Neo), as well as those containing an upstream erythroid cell-specific enhancer (HS-2) from the locus control region of the human beta-globin gene cluster (vHS2-TK-Neo; vHS2-B19-Neo). These recombinant virions were used to infect either low density or highly enriched populations of CD34+ cells isolated from human umbilical cord blood. In clonogenic assays initiated with cells infected with the different recombinant AAV-Neo virions, equivalent high frequency transduction of the neoR gene into slow-cycling multipotential, erythroid, and granulocyte/macrophage (GM) progenitor cells, including those with high proliferative potential, was obtained without prestimulation with growth factors, indicating that these immature and mature hematopoietic progenitor cells were susceptible to infection by the recombinant AAV virions. Successful transduction did not require and was not enhanced by prestimulation of these cell populations with cytokines. The functional activity of the transduced neo gene was evident by the development of resistance to the drug G418, a neomycin analogue. Individual high and low proliferative colony-forming unit (CFU)-GM, burst-forming unit-erythroid, and CFU-granulocyte erythroid macrophage megakaryocyte colonies from mock-infected, or the recombinant virus-infected cultures were subjected to polymerase chain reaction analysis using a neo-specific synthetic oligonucleotide primer pair. A 276-bp DNA fragment that hybridized with a neo-specific DNA probe on Southern blots was only detected in those colonies cloned from the recombinant virus-infected cells, indicating stable integration of the transduced neo gene. These studies suggest that parvovirus-based vectors may prove to be a useful alternative to the more commonly used retroviral vectors for high efficiency gene transfer into slow or noncycling primitive hematopoietic progenitor cells, without the need for growth factor stimulation, which could potentially lead to differentiation of these cells before transplantation.     

The psychosomatic network: foundations of mind-body medicine

Research in the 1980s uncovered ubiquitous neuropeptide-receptor distribution in brain structures associated with emotional processing, and throughout many organ systems. This finding supported neuropeptides as biochemical substrates of emotion, and the neuropeptide-receptor network as a parasynaptic system crossing traditional brain-body boundaries. The medical relevance of these findings was affirmed by psychoneuroimmunology research: neuropeptides help to regulate immunocyte trafficking, there is bidirectional communication between nervous and immune system components, immunocytes produce neuropeptides, and nerve cells produce immune-associated cytokines. In the past decade, the concept of a unified psychosomatic network has been strengthened by animal and human research demonstrating relationships between behavior and neuropeptide-mediated regulation of immune functions. Research on emotional expression or disclosure in healthy human subjects as well as in cancer and HIV-positive patients has shown significant positive correlations with clinically relevant immune functions and/or positive health outcomes. Psychosocial interventions emphasizing emotional expression or active coping have evidenced survival benefits in breast cancer and melanoma. These findings suggest that emotional expression generates balance in the neuropeptide-receptor network and a functional healing system. Emotional expression is also a marker for psychospiritual vitalization, and further research should evaluate links between energy-based models of health and neuropeptide-receptor-based models under the rubric of an informational paradigm.     

基于一种混合的节点定位算法的研究

针对基本的DV-Hop节点定位算法会产生不良的节点和多级跳带来的累积误差以及未知节点的坐标没有进行修正等缺点,提出了一种改进的混合节点定位算法WHDV-Hop算法,改进后的算法定位误差率明显比改进前的定位误差率小,通过MATLAB软件对节点定位误差方面进行仿真验证,仿真实验结果证明该改进后的算法稳定、可靠,易于实现。与DV-Hop算法相比,定位精确度提高了4.65%,计算量减少,降低了能量消耗水平,实现预期的目标。     

贯流式水轮机压力脉动特性及尾水管流态分析

本文以福建高唐水电站灯泡贯流式水轮机真机为研究对象,对贯流式水轮机满负荷工况、额定工况和低负荷工况进行了三维非定常数值模拟,各工况导、桨叶均为各自对应的最优协联角度,来分别研究三种工况压力脉动特性和尾水管的流动情况.结果表明,灯泡贯流式水轮机在导叶进口、转轮进口和尾水管进口压力脉动主要是受叶片通过频率影响,即由转轮旋转所引起的,而在尾水管出口主要受低频压力脉动的影响.同时,满负荷工况时,脉动幅值最小,尾水管流线相对分布均匀,形成的涡量最少,额定工况至低负荷工况,幅值越来越大,尾水管流线也越来越紊乱,漩涡数量明显增加.     

钨酸镁催化超声降解金橙Ⅱ研究

采用水热法合成了钨酸镁(MgWO4)半导体催化剂,并使用金橙II为有机污染物模型研究了其声催化降解性能.结果表明:MgWO4具有良好的声催化活性,可显著提升超声对有机污染物的降解效果,而且MgWO4具有优秀的可重复利用性能.同时,MgWO4催化超声降解金橙Ⅱ的机理研究表明,产生的活性物质如羟自由基(·OH)、超氧阴离子自由基(·O2-)和空穴(h+)是声催化降解金橙II的主要原因.以上研究结果表明MgWO4作为声催化剂用于处理有机染料废水具有良好的应用前景.     

NIT-Ph-p-BEN氮氧自由基的制备及催化降解性

以对醛基苯甲酸为原料，通过醛酸与2,3-二甲基-2,3-二羟胺基丁烷缩合，再经NaIO4氧化最终制得4-(4,4,5,5-四甲基-1,3-二氧化物)咪唑基-1-苯甲酸（NIT-Ph-p-BEN氮氧自由基）。采用FTIR、UV、ERP（电子顺磁共振波谱仪）和元素分析等对其结构进行表征；通过催化降解废水中有机染料甲基橙、甲基蓝和罗丹明B对其催化活性进行了评估。结果表明，当甲基橙、甲基蓝和罗丹明B浓度为15 mg/L，NIT-Ph-p-BEN质量浓度为0.15 g/L，H2O2浓度为30 mmol/L时，NIT-Ph-p-BEN对甲基橙有更好的催化降解性，仅在1 h内甲基橙的降解率达到94.26%。此外，反应机理表明，H2O2有助于实现NIT-Ph-p-BEN自由基的再生和循环利用。
