The local heat generation that accompanied tensile drawing of polymer films was successfully observed by infrared thermography as a series of temperature distribution images. These images showed that the high temperature part where rearrangements of molecular orientation and microcrystallines occurred was located mainly at the end of the necked part for the polymers that exhibited necking or appeared uniformly throughout films for the polymers that did not exhibit necking. The generated heat could be roughly estimated, and the relation between the estimated heat and mechanical work led to the thermodynamic investigation. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Significant changes in the local atomic structure and lattice dynamics were observed by pulsed neutron inelastic scattering measurements on YBa2Cu4O8 both around the superconducting transition temperature and around the spin-gap temperature. These observations and earlier results of numerical calculations on the enhancement of electron-lattice interaction by electron correlation lead to a novel picture of unconventional lattice-induced superconductivity related to antiferroelectric instability.  相似文献

A low-profile array antenna composed of two-turn 4° pitch angle helices is designed for a frequency band of 11.7 GHz to 12.0 GHz. The feed wire of each helix is inserted into a radial waveguide through a small hole and excited by a traveling wave flowing in the transverse electromagnetic mode between the two parallel plates of the waveguide. The measured aperture efficiency shows a maximum value of 77% for a beam radiated in the normal direction and 69% for a 30° beam tilt  相似文献

The use of proxy respondents in surveys designed to provide population estimates of smoking prevalence offers an inexpensive way to obtain these data. The accuracy of this information is examined in analyzing data from tobacco use surveys of adults conducted in 22 North American communities as part of the National Cancer Institute's Community Intervention Trial for Smoking Cessation. Proxy-reported smoking status was obtained in a cross-sectional telephone survey conducted from August 1993 to January 1994 (n = 99,682). Self-reported smoking status was obtained from an in-depth interview of a sample of the respondents aged 25-64 years enumerated from the telephone survey (n = 31,417). Discrepancy rates were calculated by comparing the proxy-reported and self-reported smoking statuses of a given individual (n = 10,226). In both surveys, respondents were categorized as current smokers (those who currently smoke and have smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their lifetime), recent quitters (< or = 8 years since cessation), long-term quitters (> 8 years since cessation), and never smokers. The overall discrepancy rate between the self-report and the proxy report was 5.4%. Self-respondents who were black, Hispanic, Asian, recent quitters, or aged 25-34 years were more likely to have inconsistent proxy reports. The authors estimate that the screener interview underestimated the true smoking prevalence by 0.1% when they corrected for smoking status discrepancies. These results confirm that proxy-reported smoking status is an accurate and effective means to monitor populationwide smoking prevalence of adults.  相似文献

A system of numerical flow simulation with an automated mesh generator and parallelized solver was developed and applied to the flow-field inside an optical disc drive. In this simulation system, a uniformly spaced Cartesian grid is used to reduce time and automatically generate a mesh from CAD data for complicated geometries, such as optical disc drives. The simulation results of optical disc drives are validated by particle image velocimetry (PIV) and pressure-distribution measurements. The measured velocity distributions above a rotating disc and around a pick-up unit show quantitative agreement with the simulated distributions. For the pressure distributions on a top case of an optical disc drive, although there is an error of 10% between simulated and measured results, the position of the peaks and distribution of pressure show good agreement. Comparing both sets of measurements, the simulation results in a Cartesian grid system are sufficiently accurate to enable the flow-field to be quantitatively assessed. This numerical flow simulation is applied to investigate the detailed flow-field in a commercial optical disc drive.  相似文献

The mobile multi-media applications require to lower the operating voltage of embedded SRAMs. The ECC circuit implementation for increasing soft-error and the access timing control that tracks access delay fluctuation in memory core should be considered for the low-voltage operation. A hidden error-check-and-correction (HECC) scheme compensated the access time penalty caused by the ECC logic on the output critical path. And a multi-column ECC word assignment (MCE) increased the multi-bit-error immunity while using only 1-bit-correctable ECC which minimized area penalty. A source-level-adjusted direct sense amplifier (SLAD) and a write-replica circuit with an asymmetrical replica memory cell (WRAM) for the device-fluctuation-tolerant access control were also designed. A 130-nm CMOS 32-Kbit SRAM-macro was fabricated with these circuit techniques, which demonstrated: 1) 0.3-V operation with 6.8 MHz; 2) 30-MHz operation which is feasible for mobile use even at 0.4 V, while keeping 960MHz at 1.5 V; and 3) a reduction by 3.6/spl times/10/sup 5/ in soft-error rate compared with that of conventional ECC.  相似文献

Recently, along with the growth in economic development, there has been a dramatic accompanying increase in the amount of sludge and organic waste. The disposal of such is a significant problem. Moreover, there is also an increased in the consumption of electricity along with economic growth. Although new energy development, such as fuel cells, has been promoted to solve the problem of power consumption, there has been little corresponding promotion relating to the disposal of sludge and organic waste. Generally, methane fermentation comprises the primary organic waste fuel used in gasification systems. However, the methane fermentation method takes a long time to obtain the fuel gas, and the quality of the obtained gas is unstable. On the other hand, gasification by molten salt is undesirable because the molten salt in the gasification gas corrodes the piping and turbine blades. Therefore, a gasification system is proposed by which the sludge and organic waste are gasified by molten salt. Moreover, molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFC) are needed to refill the MCFC electrolyte volatilized in the operation. Since the gasification gas is used as an MCFC fuel, MCFC electrolyte can be provided with the fuel gas. This paper elucidates the fundamental characteristics of sludge and organic waste gasification. A crucible filled with the molten salt comprising 62 Li2CO3/38 K2CO3, is installed in the reaction vessel, and can be set to an arbitrary temperature in a gas atmosphere. In this instance, the gasifying agent gas is CO2. Sludge or the rice is supplied as organic waste into the molten salt, and is gasified. The chemical composition of the gasification gas is analyzed by a CO/CO2 meter, a HC meter, and a SOx meter gas chromatography. As a result, although sludge can generate CO and H2 near the chemical equilibrium value, all of the sulfur in the sludge is not fixed in the molten salt, because the sludge floats on the surface of the carbonate by the specific gravity of sludge lighter than the carbonate, and is not completely converted into CO and H2. Moreover, the rice also shows good characteristics as a gasifying agent. Consequently, there is high expectation to using the organic waste as a molten salt gasifying agent. However, this requires lengthening the contact time between the organic waste and the molten salt.  相似文献
