Two Fe-0.2C-1.55Mn-1.5Si (in wt pct) steels, with and without the addition of 0.039Nb (in wt pct), were studied using laboratory
rolling-mill simulations of controlled thermomechanical processing. The microstructures of all samples were characterized
by optical metallography, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The microstructural behavior
of phases under applied strain was studied using a heat-tinting technique. Despite the similarity in the microstructures of
the two steels (equal amounts of polygonal ferrite, carbide-free bainite, and retained austenite), the mechanical properties
were different. The mechanical properties of these transformation-induced-plasticity (TRIP) steels depended not only on the
individual behavior of all these phases, but also on the interaction between the phases during deformation. The polygonal
ferrite and bainite of the C-Mn-Si steel contributed to the elongation more than these phases in the C-Mn-Si-Nb-steel. The
stability of retained austenite depends on its location within the microstructure, the morphology of the bainite, and its
interaction with other phases during straining. Granular bainite was the bainite morphology that provided the optimum stability

The academic literature in 2000 presented a procedure for solving the job-shop-scheduling problem of minimizing L max. The iterative-adaptive simulation-based procedure is shown here to perform well on large-scale problems. However, there is potential for improvement in closing the gap between best-known solutions and the lower bound. In the present paper, a simulated annealing post-processing procedure is presented and evaluated on large-scale problems. A new neighbourhood structure for local searches in the job-shop scheduling problem is developed. The procedure is also evaluated using benchmark problems and new upper bounds are established. 相似文献

We propose a novel mixed integer programming formulation for the capacitated lot-sizing problem with set-up times and set-up carryover. We compare our formulation to two earlier formulations, the Classical and Modified formulations, and a more recent formulation due to Suerie and Stadtler. Extensive computational experiments show that our formulation consistently outperforms the Classical and Modified formulations in terms of CPU time and solution quality. It is competitive with the Suerie–Stadtler (S&S) formulation, but outperforms all other formulations on the most challenging instances, those with low-capacity slack and a dense jobs matrix. We show that some of the differences in the performance of these various formulations arise from their different use of binary variables to represent production or set-up states. We also show that the LP relaxation of our Novel formulation provides a tighter lower bound than that of the Modified formulation. Our experiments demonstrate that, while the S&S formulation provides a much tighter LP bound, the Novel formulation is better able to exploit the intelligence of the CPLEX solution engine. 相似文献

Abstract A high-bandwidth optical fibre current sensor has been developed at Salford to monitor the waveform of the driving current pulse feeding into a discharge-pumped excimer laser. The sensor is a conventional intrinsic Faraday effect device but overcomes the normal bandwidth-sensitivity limits because the very large electrical current pulse used to drive the excimer laser allows detectable polarization rotation over a 60 cm length of fibre. Concerns about the potential health effects of exposure to nanomaterials have led to a growing number of in vivo inhalation toxicity studies using nanoparticle aerosols. Estimates of aerosol deposition within the respiratory tract are important for these studies to enable: (a) the interpretation of the results, in particular, the evaluation of dose–response relationships; (b) comparison with the results of other related studies; and (c) the extrapolation of results from animal models to human. Unfortunately, only a limited number of studies have been undertaken to investigate respiratory tract deposition efficiencies for nano-sized aerosol particles. This is of particular importance as deposition efficiencies are predicted to vary significantly over the nano-size range for some elements of the respiratory tract. In this study, female Wistar-Kyoto rats were exposed in a new design nose-only inhalation exposure system to spark generated radioactive iridium-192 nanoparticle aerosols of four particle sizes chosen to cover the majority of the nano-size range (nominal sizes: 10, 15, 35, and 75 nm). The content of iridium-192 in the lung, head, gastrointestinal tract, and various other organs and tissues was measured. Aerosol deposition efficiencies in the whole respiratory tract and components (head airways, lung, alveolar region, and tracheobronchial region) were estimated and compared with the predictions of the Multiple Path Particle Dosimetry (MPPD) model (v2.11). The experimentally derived deposition efficiencies were broadly consistent with, but typically higher than, model predictions and the results of comparable studies in the literature.

Commercially available quantum dots have been encapsulated in a poly(methyl methacrylate) film and used as a luminescent downshifting layer on cadmium sulfide/cadmium telluride photovoltaic devices. Application of these films has resulted in a relative improvement to the short‐circuit current of over 4% by I–V measurement, with a significant increase in the contribution of short‐wavelength light resulting in 25% of the current available in this part of the spectrum being captured. The films have been shown to be highly scattering and the associated difficulties this provides to external quantum efficiency measurements have been discussed. A range of optical characterisation techniques, particularly laser beam induced current, have been used to probe the effect the films have on a cadmium sulfide/cadmium telluride device. By using surface data from 57 UK meteorological stations, a national [British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC)‐57] and regional wind index for the UK has been calculated for the period 1983–2011. For a subset of seven stations, an additional national index (BADC‐7) has been calculated for the period 1957–2011. The indices show an annual variability of 4% over their respective periods, corresponding to a variation in typical wind turbine capacity factor of 7%. These indices are compared with indices calculated from other sources, namely an index generated using a gridded dataset of observed values interpolated across the UK, an index calculated from an area bounding the UK using the ERA‐40 re‐analysis dataset, indices calculated from bilinear interpolation of the ERA‐40 re‐analysis dataset to the 57 and 7 stations and another independent UK wind index. The indices show variation in trends, with all showing some level of decline with the exception of that generated using the ERA‐40 re‐analysis dataset averaged over the UK, which shows a significant increase. The various indices show varying degrees of agreement with correlation coefficients, after trends are removed, ranging between 0.611 and 0.979. The effect of changes in site exposure, instrument bias and measuring height was considered for the BADC‐7 and BADC‐57 indices. The change in instrument measurement height appears to have a significant biasing effect, and it is likely that this along with changes in exposure at urban sites has caused the decline in annual wind speeds observed for some of the indices. There does not appear to be evidence for significant changes in large‐area (mesoscale) surface roughness. The correlation between annual mean wind speeds at the seven surface station sites used to calculate the BADC‐7 index is seen to be quite weak, indicating very localized variations in inter‐annual variability. When regional differences in the index are investigated, it is seen that wind speeds show a very slight decline across the UK in all regions except the south‐east, which shows a slight increase. The greatest decrease is seen in the north‐west. These changes are in the same direction as the tentative predictions given by climate models for future changes in wind speed across the UK, although the uncertainty is large given the large degree of inter‐annual variation. The current status of the ITER magnetics diagnostic is summarised. The various risks are discussed on the basis of when they could be present during ITER operation and appropriate mitigation is reviewed. An implementation risk or common mode operation failure risk to the magnetic diagnostic can only be mitigated by diversity. All identified risks are being handled with ongoing research and development to minimise these risks. A reasonable level of design and manufacturing diversity has been therefore introduced in the procurement and installation plans, in order to optimise overall reliability avoiding dispersion of resources. 相似文献
