The mechanism by which sulfonated 2-hydroxybenzophenone ultraviolet (UV) absorbers protect wool fabric against photoyellowing has been studied. The absorption and luminescence properties of two 2-hydroxybenzophenone-5-sulfonates and four 2-hydroxybenzophenone-2′hyphen;sulfonates are compared. The 2-hydroxy-benzophenones are nonfluorescent in wool, but they all show phosphorescence at room temperature. The phosphorescence is attributed to the phenolate anion produced by ionization of the hydroxyl group. The nature of substituents in the 3-position and 4-position of the phenolic ring is important in controlling the formation of luminescent species which may initiate unwanted photochemical reactions in wool. The protective screening effect of each absorber in wool fabric has been determined theoretically, using a method of analysis based on diffuse reflectance spectroscopy; the results are compared with the values determined experimentally by measuring the changes in yellowness that result when treated and untreated fabrics are exposed to fluorescent sunlamps (maximum energy at 310 nm). In all cases, UV screening was shown to be the important mode of photostabilization. The levels of photoprotection were much higher than those reported previously for treated fabrics that were exposed for long periods to simulated sunlight, behind glass. Possible reasons for the poor long-term performance of the 2-hydroxybenzophenones in wool are discussed.  相似文献

This paper addresses the problem of finding optimal operational policies for an acetylene reactor for day to day operation. A lumped parameter model based on four main reactions is developed and used to examine the effects of the reactor manipulated variables on key reaction parameters. An optimal and a sub-optimal operational policy which minimize the ethylene loss over time are formulated and the solution techniques are presented. The results indicate that the reactor model is in good agreement with industrial plant data. The performance of the optimal control policy is very similar to the performance of the sub-optimal control policy. However, the sub-optimal formulation, while retaining the dominant features of the optimal response, reduces the computational requirements. Finally, some issues concerning the real-time implementation of an advanced acetylene reactor control scheme are presented. These include the estimation of the optimum regeneration cycle, a recursive model update algorithm, the process optimizer and their overall coordination. A preliminary analysis of the benefits associated with the advanced control scheme suggests a considerable reduction in the yearly ethylene loss.  相似文献

Buckminsterfullerene encapsulated within zeolite Y is found not to be a reactive radical initiator for the formation of dimethoxyethane from dimethyl ether below 200° C. Above this temperature the expected acid catalysed conversion of dimethyl ether to hydrocarbons is observed. Dimethoxyethane formation is observed when bibenzoyl peroxide is used as a radical initiator. These studies indicate that any radical formed by the encapsulated buckminsterfullerene is relatively unreactive.  相似文献

Several polymer‐layered silicate (clay) nanocomposites (PLSNs) were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (XRD) in an effort to characterize the nanoscale dispersion of the layered silicate. The PLSNs investigated included thermoset (cyanate esters) and thermoplastic polymers (polystyrene, nylon 6, and polypropylene‐g‐maleic anhydride). The results of this study reveal that the overall nanoscale dispersion of the clay in the polymer is best described by TEM, especially when mixed morphologies are present. XRD is useful for the measurement of d‐spacings in intercalated systems but cannot always observe low clay loadings (<5%) or be used as a method to identify an exfoliated nanocomposite where no XRD peaks are present (constituting a negative result). Most importantly, the study showed that XRD is not a stand‐alone technique, and it should be used in conjunction with TEM. Our studies suggest that new definitions, or a clarification of existing definitions, are needed to properly describe the diversity of PLSN nanostructures seen in various materials. The size of the inner water cavity of reversed micelles formedin a triple system ‘water-surfactant-organic solvent’can be widely varied by changing the degree of surfactant hydration.This gives grounds to use reversed micelles as matrix microreactorsfor the design of supramolecular complexes of proteins. Usingultracentrifugation analysis, it has been demonstrated thatthe oligomeric composition of various enzymes (ketoglutaratedehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, lactic dehydrogenase, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphatedehydrogenase) solubilized in reversed micelles of Aerosol OT[sodium bis(2-ethylehexyl)sulfosuccinate] in octane changesupon variation of the degree of hydration. An oligomeric complexforms under conditions when the radius of the micelle innercavity is big enough to incorporate this complex as a whole.At lower degrees of hydration the micelles ‘uncouple’such complexes to their components. The catalytic propertiesof various oligomeric complexes have been studied. Possibilitiesof using reversed micelles for the separation of subunits ofoligomeric enzymes under non-denaturating conditions have beendemonstrated. In particular, the isolated subunits of alkalinephosphatase, lactic dehydrogenase and glyceralde-hyde-3-phosphatedehydrogenase have been found to be active in Aerosol OT reversedmicelles. The dependences of the catalytic activity of oligomericenzymes represent saw-like curves. The maxima of the catalyticactivity observed at these curves relate to the functioningof various oligomeric forms of an enzyme. The radii of the micelleinner cavity under conditions when these maxima are observedcorrelate with the linear dimensions of the enzyme oligomericforms. Data from new experiments and from work published during the past 40 years are subjected to regression analysis to determine the relationship between strength and the composition and fineness of cement. The original authors differed in their opinions on the relative importance of C3S and C3A. The controversy is examined against a background of experience with a group of materials that are representative of Portland cement in general, and in terms of an analysis based on a model in which, during the first weeks of hardening, the strength developed by C3S depends on the proportion of C3A in the cement.  相似文献

The notions of knowledge and belief play an important role in philosophy. Unfortunately, the literature is not very consistent about defining these notions. Is belief more fundamental than knowledge or is it the other way around? Many accounts rely on the widely accepted strategy of appealing to the intuition of the reader. Such an argumentative methodology is fundamentally flawed because it lets the problems of common sense reasoning in through the front door. Instead, I suggest that philosophical arguments should be based on formal-computational models to (a) reduce the ambiguities and uncertainties that come with intuitive arguments and reasoning, and (b) capture the dynamic nature of many philosophical concepts. I present a model of knowledge and belief that lends itself to being implemented on computers. Its purpose is to resolve terminological confusion in favor of a more transparent account. The position I defend is an antirealist naturalized one: knowledge is best conceived as arising from experience, and is fundamental to belief.  相似文献

Here, we study the problem of a rotating tethered satellite system (TSS) orientation. The rotation TSS is used for propellantless delivery of the payload from low earth orbits to geostationary orbits or other transfer orbits. Driving the angular positions to correct desired orientation in rendezvous and tossing moments, in fact, is important operation in many real sceneries. We suggest the mathematical model describing the dynamics of TSS and catch mechanism/payload rendezvous with external disturbance terms. Here is shown that using sliding mode control (SMC), we are able to control successfully the position of TSS. The conventional and adaptive versions of SMC are considered. We show that SMC with the gain matrix adaptation based on the equivalent control method can significantly reduce the undesirable chattering effect provoking possible damages of TSS.
