One of the major mediators of neuroinflammation in PD is tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), which, similar to other cytokines, is produced by activated microglia and astrocytes. Although TNF-α can be neuroprotective in the brain, long-term neuroinflammation and TNF release can be harmful, having a neurotoxic role that leads to death of oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, and neurons and, therefore, is associated with neurodegeneration. Apart from cytokines, a wide family of molecules with homologous structures, namely chemokines, play a key role in neuro-inflammation by drawing cytotoxic T-lymphocytes and activating microglia. The objective of the current study was to examine the levels of the serum TNF-α and CCL2 (Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 2), also known as MCP-1 (Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1), in PD patients compared with healthy controls. We also investigated the associations between the serum levels of these two inflammatory mediators and a number of clinical symptoms, in particular, disease severity and cognition. Such an assessment may point to their prognostic value and provide some treatment hints. PD patients with advanced stage on the Hoehn–Yahr scale showed an increase in TNF-α levels compared with PD patients with stages 1 and 2 (p = 0.01). Additionally, the UPDRS score was significantly associated with TNF-α levels. CCL2 levels, however, showed no significant associations.  相似文献

Novel (meth)acrylate tetrapolymers based on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) were synthesized via free-radical polymerization in refluxing xylene under monomer-starved conditions for use in negative photoresist formulations. 2,2′-Azobis(2-methylbutyronitrile) was used as initiator and 2-mercaptoethanol as chain transfer agent. Optimized resist formulations were obtained with a relatively narrow polydispersed (D=1.86) low molecular weight copolymer (Mn=1677) of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), isobornyl methacrylate (IBMA), cyclohexyl methacrylate (CHMA) and acrylic acid (AA), in a 40/30/23/7 weight ratio. A novel high-resolution single layer negative tone photoresist suitable for 193 nm and e-beam lithography that meets basic performance requirements (aqueous-base development, enhanced etch resistance, sub-0.2 μm resolution) was developed from the aforementioned (meth)acrylate tetrapolymer, the poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate-co-cyclohexyl methacrylate-co-isobornyl methacrylate-co-acrylic acid) (PHECIMA) and a sulfonium salt photo acid generator. The key-components for the negative image formation (photoacid induced crosslinking) are the hydroxyl groups of the HEMA moieties. The swelling-free negative resist material was developed in diluted aqueous base [tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide, (TMAH) 0.26×10−2N] and presented enhanced etch resistance without the use of etch resistance promoters. 0.20-0.14 μm lines were obtained upon 193 nm and/or e-beam lithography.  相似文献

Direct allorecognition is the earliest and most potent immune response against a kidney allograft. Currently, it is thought that passenger donor professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs) are responsible. Further, many studies support that graft ischemia-reperfusion injury increases the probability of acute rejection. We evaluated the possible role of primary human proximal renal tubular epithelial cells (RPTECs) in direct allorecognition by CD4+ T-cells and the effect of anoxia-reoxygenation. In cell culture, we detected that RPTECs express all the required molecules for CD4+ T-cell activation (HLA-DR, CD80, and ICAM-1). Anoxia-reoxygenation decreased HLA-DR and CD80 but increased ICAM-1. Following this, RPTECs were co-cultured with alloreactive CD4+ T-cells. In T-cells, zeta chain phosphorylation and c-Myc increased, indicating activation of T-cell receptor and co-stimulation signal transduction pathways, respectively. T-cell proliferation assessed with bromodeoxyuridine assay and with the marker Ki-67 increased. Previous culture of RPTECs under anoxia raised all the above parameters in T-cells. FOXP3 remained unaffected in all cases, signifying that proliferating T-cells were not differentiated towards a regulatory phenotype. Our results support that direct allorecognition may be mediated by RPTECs even in the absence of donor-derived professional APCs. Also, ischemia-reperfusion injury of the graft may enhance the above capacity of RPTECs, increasing the possibility of acute rejection.  相似文献

Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris in fruit juices and its control by nisin   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Summary The acid-tolerant and heat-resistant bacterium Alicyclobacillus acidoterrestris is a spoilage problem in pasteurized and heat-treated fruit juices. In this study it was shown to grow in orange juice, grapefruit juice and apple juice to produce detectable taint at levels of about 104–105 c.f.u. ml−1. Decimal reduction times were determined at 80 °, 90 ° and 95 °C in each juice and confirmed the heat-resistant nature of the spores under normal juice pasteurization conditions. They also confirmed that heat sensitivity increased with decreasing pH but that this effect was less pronounced at higher temperatures. The organism was, however, sensitive to the bacteriocin food preservative nisin. The presence of nisin during heating decreased the D value by up to 40% and the MIC for nisin against spores at 25 °C was only 5 International Units (IU) ml−1. The results indicate that use of nisin is a potentially useful way of controlling this organism in fruit juices and fruit juice-containing products.  相似文献

Nowadays, organic solar cells have the interest of engineers for manufacturing flexible and low cost devices. The considerable progress of this nanotechnology area presents the possibility of investigating new effects from a fundamental science point of view. In this letter we highlight the influence of the concentration of fullerene molecules on the ultrafast transport properties of charged electrons and polarons in P3HT/PCBM blended materials which are crucial for the development of organic solar cells. Especially, we report on the femtosecond dynamics of localized (P2 at 1.45 eV) and delocalized (DP2 at 1.76 eV) polaron states of P3HT matrix with the addition of fullerene molecules as well as the free-electron relaxation dynamics of PCBM-related states. Our study shows that as PCBM concentration increases, the amplified exciton dissociation at bulk heterojunctions leads to increased polaron lifetimes. However, the increase in PCBM concentration can be directly related to the localization of polarons, creating thus two competing trends within the material. Our methodology shows that the effect of changes in structure and/or composition can be monitored at the fundamental level toward optimization of device efficiency.  相似文献

This paper deals with the synthesis of geopolymers utilizing ferronickel slag as raw material. The utilized slag is produced in the Greek plant LARCO during the pyrometallurgical treatment of laterites for the production of ferronickel, specifically at the step of the reductive smelting in electric arc furnaces. The performed work includes the optimization of the slag-based geopolymeric system through the study of the effect of the synthesis parameters on the mechanical properties of the produced materials. The structure of geopolymers was determined with X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The obtained results showed that the ferronickel slag is an excellent raw material for the production of inorganic polymers using the geopolymerization technology. The materials produced under the optimum synthesis conditions were compact and rigid and presented high compressive strength (118 MPa), as well as extremely low water absorption (0.7–0.8%).  相似文献

This paper presents grammatical evolution (GE) as an approach to select and combine features for detecting epileptic oscillations within clinical intracranial electroencephalogram (iEEG) recordings of patients with epilepsy. Clinical iEEG is used in preoperative evaluations of a patient who may have surgery to treat epileptic seizures. Literature suggests that pathological oscillations may indicate the region(s) of brain that cause epileptic seizures, which could be surgically removed for therapy. If this presumption is true, then the effectiveness of surgical treatment could depend on the effectiveness in pinpointing critically diseased brain, which in turn depends on the most accurate detection of pathological oscillations. Moreover, the accuracy of detecting pathological oscillations depends greatly on the selected feature(s) that must objectively distinguish epileptic events from average activity, a task that visual review is inevitably too subjective and insufficient to resolve. Consequently, this work suggests an automated algorithm that incorporates grammatical evolution (GE) to construct the most sufficient feature(s) to detect epileptic oscillations within the iEEG of a patient. We estimate the performance of GE relative to three alternative methods of selecting or combining features that distinguish an epileptic gamma (~65-95 Hz) oscillation from normal activity: forward sequential feature-selection, backward sequential feature-selection, and genetic programming. We demonstrate that a detector with a grammatically evolved feature exhibits a sensitivity and selectivity that is comparable to a previous detector with a genetically programmed feature, making GE a useful alternative to designing detectors.  相似文献

Charge exchange at the bulk heterojunctions of composites made by mixing single wall nanotubes (SWNTs) and polymers show potential for use in optoelectronic devices such as solar cells and optical sensors. The density/total area of these heterojunctions is expected to increase with increasing SWNT concentration but the efficiency of solar cell peaks at low SWNT concentrations. Most researchers use current–voltage measurements to determine the evolution of the SWNT percolation network and optical absorption measurements to monitor the spectral response of the composites. However, these methods do not provide a detailed account of carrier transport at the concentrations of interest; i.e., near or below the percolation threshold. In this article, we show that capacitance–voltage (CV) response of (metal)-(oxide)-(semiconducting composite) devices can be used to fill this gap in studying bulk heterojunctions. In an approach where we combine optical absorption methods with CV measurements we can acquire a unified optoelectronic response from P3HT-SWNT composites. This methodology can become an important tool for optoelectronic device optimization.  相似文献
