Sexual selection and mating systems profoundly influence the behavior and psychology of animals. Using their own studies of green anacondas (Eunectes murinus) and reviewing other recent studies, the authors conclude that incomplete data derived from a few well-studied snake species have led to general acceptance of polygyny as the dominant mating system in snakes. New data on behavior, paternity, and life history in a diverse taxonomic array of snakes support the view that polyandry is not only common in snakes but may have been the ancestral mating system. This interpretation helps to explain many seemingly paradoxical behavioral differences between lizards and snakes, such as the lack of territorial systems in most snakes and their frequent female-biased sexual size dimorphism. Video transmission with general-purpose PCs poses a number of requirements that radically differ from those of high-end dedicated video servers. We analyze the scenario of an Ethernet local area network in which a number of PCs are transmitting video streams, while other TCP/IP applications are also running concurrently. Our findings show that since the operating system clock resolution cannot cope with the transmission timing requirements the following holds: if the video transmission is performed with exact timing accuracy to maintain a constant rate then CPU load grows to 100%, thus blocking the PC for other user applications; on the other hand, if transmission is performed in a bursty manner, i.e. with sleep system calls, then CPU load decreases dramatically but the increased burstiness of the video stream has a negative impact on network performance (for example, capture effect in the Ethernet). Furthermore, the impact of video transmission over the rest of TCP/IP applications running on the same network depends heavily on the packet size. We provide an integrated analysis of operating system and network parameters to achieve video broadcasting while preserving timing requirements and minimizing the impact on other applications. 相似文献

The aim of this paper is to contribute to the field of satisfaction research from the perspective of electronic banking users—a topic of great interest to financial institutions as they formulate business strategies. In this context, we analyze the possible moderating effect of user experience with the products of a specific institution. A comprehensive review of the scientific literature justified the development of a behavioral model that explains satisfaction using a set of constructs or endogenous variables and the moderating effect of experience. Data was collected from a self-administered Web survey in the authenticated section of the electronic banking service of a prestigious Spanish National financial institution. The analysis tests the relationship between the proposed variables (ease of access, trust, ease of use and usefulness) and demonstrates the moderating effect of electronic banking experience on them. The study was limited to the data of a single financial institution. Caution should therefore be exercised in generalizing the results. The research results provide a number of valuable conclusions for financial institutions. This paper is a pioneer study of satisfaction with electronic banking, especially with regard to the causal relationships between satisfaction and its main determinants. 相似文献

A nectarine purée was manufactured with different pretreatments (thermal blanching or ascorbic acid – AA – addition), and then, the purée was processed by high‐pressure treatment to evaluate the effect of the initial manufacture conditions in the stability of the processed purées. A thermal treatment was also carried out to compare the effect with the high‐pressure processing (HPP). All applied processes were effective to ensure the microbiological safety of the purées. However, the pretreatment (thermal blanching or AA addition) applied during the manufacture affected the final quality of the processed purées. Initially, the AA addition had a protective effect on colour degradation during the manufacture of the purées; however, when these purées were treated by HPP showed less colour stability during storage, lower bioactive compounds content, and antioxidant activity. In this work, we carry out the parallelization of the single level Fast Multipole Method (FMM) for solving acoustic-scattering problems (using the Helmholtz equation) on distributed-memory GPGPU systems. With the aim of enlarging the scope of feasible simulations, the presented solution combines the techniques developed for our distributed-memory CPU solver with our shared-memory GPGPU solver. The performance of the developed solution is proved using two different GPGPU clusters: the first one consists of two workstations with NVIDIA GTX 480 GPUs linked by a Gigabit Ethernet network, and the second one comprises four nodes with NVIDIA Tesla M2090 GPUs linked by an Infiniband network. 相似文献

The continuous monitoring of physical, chemical and biological parameters in shrimp culture is an important activity for detecting potential crisis that can be harmful for the organisms. Water quality can be assessed through toxicological tests evaluated directly from water quality parameters involved in the ecosystem; these tests provide an indicator about the water quality. The aim of this study is to develop a fuzzy inference system based on a reasoning process, which involves aquaculture criteria established by official organizations and researchers for assessing water quality by analyzing the main factors that affect a shrimp ecosystem. We propose to organize the water quality parameters in groups according to their importance; these groups are defined as daily, weekly and by request monitoring. Additionally, we introduce an analytic hierarchy process to define priorities for more critical water quality parameters and groups. The proposed system analyzes the most important parameters in shrimp culture, detects potential negative situations and provides a new water quality index (WQI), which describes the general status of the water quality as excellent, good, regular and poor. The Canadian water quality and other well-known hydrological indices are used to compare the water quality parameters of the shrimp water farm. Results show that WQI index has a better performance than other indices giving a more accurate assessment because the proposed fuzzy inference system integrates all environmental behaviors giving as result a complete score. This fuzzy inference system emerges as an appropriated tool for assessing site performance, providing assistance to improve production through contingency actions in polluted ponds. 相似文献

Flange forming is a process which is wide spread in macro range for blanks with thicknesses from less than 1?mm up to several millimeters. Flange formed geometries are used as preforms for threads but also as device to give guidance and contact face to bolts and axles in sheet metal. A great advantage of flange forming compared to other machining processes is low process cycle time combined with high material utilization. Thus, a reasonable repertoire of knowledge has been gained for flange forming in macro range. Due to ongoing miniaturization of today??s products, flange forming is an interesting process applicable in micro range as well whereas size effects do not generally allow transfer of process limits from macro to micro range. Therefore the maximum flaring ratio for flange forming in micro range for sheet metal foil of 10?C25???m for a stainless steel 1.4301 and Copper E-Cu58 is investigated and compared with results in macro range. It is shown that the maximum flaring ratio decreases with decreasing sheet metal thickness. The resulting flange heights of experiments are compared with theoretical estimations which show a good accordance. 相似文献

A single-phase problem is solved rather than a multiphase problem for numerical simplicity: and the solution is based on the assumption that the region of gas or plasma can be treated as a void because solid or liquid steel has a greater density level than gas or plasma. The volume-of-fluid method, which can calculate the free surface shape of the keyhole, is used in conjunction with a ray-tracing algorithm to estimate the multiple reflections. Fresnel's reflection model is simplified by the Hagen-Rubens relation for handling a laser beam interaction with materials. Factors considered in the simulations include buoyancy force, Marangoni force and recoil pressure; furthermore, pore generation is simulated by means of an adiabatic bubble model, which can also lead to the phenomenon of a keyhole collapse. Models of the shear stress on the keyhole surface and of the heat transfer to the molten pool via a plasma plume are introduced in simulations of the weld pool dynamics. Analysis of the temperature profile characteristics of the weld bead and molten pool flow in the molten pool is based on the results of the numerical simulations. The simulation results are used to estimate the weld fusion zone shape; and the results of the simulated fusion zone formation are compared with the results of the experimental fusion zone formation and found to be in good agreement. The effects of laser beam profile (Gaussian vs. measured), vapor shear stress, vapor heat source and sulfur content on the molten pool behavior and fusion zone shape are analyzed. 相似文献
