Acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS)/montmorillonite nanocomposites have been prepared using a direct melt intercalation technique by blending ABS and organophilic clay of two different particle sizes: OMTa (5 µm) and OMTb (38 µm). Their structure and flammability properties were characterized by X‐ray diffraction, high resolution electronic microscopy (HREM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and cone calorimeter experiments. The results of HREM showed that ABS/5 wt% OMTa nanocomposite was a kind of intercalated–delaminated structure, while ABS/5 wt% OMTb nanocomposite was mainly an intercalated structure. The nanocomposites showed a lower heat release rate peak and higher thermal stability than the original ABS by TGA and cone calorimeter experiments. A semiconductor optical amplifier was developed for coarse wavelength-division-multiplexing (CWDM) operating over 1540-1620 nm (C-L band). A unique quantum-well structure was designed to meet the requirements for the CWDM operation such as wide bandwidth, low polarization-dependent gain, and high-saturation power at the short wavelength end of the band (1540 nm). Coating of 0.65Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.35PbTiO3 (PMN–PT) relaxor ferroelectrics by a sol–gel method is followed by growth of epitaxial SrRuO3 (SRO) metallic oxide electrodes on SrTiO3 (STO) single-crystal substrate by pulsed laser deposition. High-quality PMN–PT films on SRO with preferred growth orientation were successfully fabricated by controlling the operation parameters. Structural properties of relaxor ferroelectric PMN–PT thin films on SRO/STO substrates have been studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Material removal and surface damage of Ti3SiC2 ceramic during electrical discharge machining (EDM) were investigated. Melting and decomposition were found to be the main material removal mechanisms during the machining process. Material removal rate was enhanced acceleratively with increasing discharge current, ie, working voltage, ui, but increased deceleratively with pulse duration, te. This paper addresses the application of Genetic Programming (GP) to the synthesis of multicomponent product nonsharp distillation
sequences. Combined with the domain knowledge of chemical engineering, some evolutionary factors are improved, and a set of
special encoding method and solving strategy is proposed to deal with this kind of problem. The system structural variable
is optimized by GP and the continuous variable is optimized by the simulated annealing algorithm simultaneously. Because GP
has an automatic searching function, the optimal solution can be found including distillation, splitting, blending and bypassing
