In spite of predictions to the contrary, video on demand service has yet to become a significant channel for distribution
of audiovisual entertainment to consumers’ homes. In this paper, we examine the market for video on demand service under the
assumption that quality of service is a threshold factor that consumers take into consideration when making their purchasing
decision. Given this characteristic of consumer behavior, we model the joint demand for video on demand service and broadband
network access. We then proceed to characterize the optimal solution to monopolist and duopolist content providers’ price
and quantity decisions in this market. The comparative statics results are extended in a two-period game theoretic framework

This article aims to illuminate the complexities involved in efforts to influence China's energy future. It brings forth three observations. First: China's authoritarian appearance is deceptive. Second: learning about concealed but pivotal actors and their motivations is not easy but important. Third: technology diffusion is obstructed by differences in expectations. Three summarising messages conclude the presentation, noting that in order to progress one needs to (i) look beyond official consensus, (ii) address differences in technology perceptions and (iii) be watchful of the inconclusiveness of synthesised information—such as projections of the future. These findings are the result of an analytic and China-oriented exploration of three adjoining fields, i.e. of actors and their different roles in decision-making, of two recent energy futures studies, and of conceptual frameworks for understanding technology. 相似文献

This paper presents a low-power, high-performance current-feedback instrumentation amplifier (CFIA) for portable bio-potential sensing applications. Noise analysis is performed to assign an optimized current for the input stage of the amplifier. Analysis on selecting nested chopping frequencies is performed, further reducing 1/f noise and the residual offset. Enhanced power efficiency is achieved by sharing cascode branches and using a Class-AB output stage. Through these methods, a good balance between noise performance and other parameters such as output ripples and power consumption of the ripple reduction feedback loop (RRFL) is achieved. The amplifier is developed using a 1-poly 6-metal 0.18 μm CMOS process. Three gain stages with a gain-boosting input stage provide a low-frequency, open-loop gain >250 dB. When configured to a closed-loop gain of 60 dB, the amplifier achieves a noise voltage density of 18 \({\text{nV}}/\sqrt {{\text{H}}z}\) and a 1/f noise corner of 3 Hz. With a current of 75 μA and a supply voltage of 3.3 V, a CMRR of 110 dB and a PSRR of 120 dB are achieved, with an average input offset of about 6.5 μV. The amplifier achieves a state-of-art noise efficiency factor of 4.2. Practical application of the CFIA is demonstrated with an in vivo electrocardiogram detection. 相似文献

The exposure to 232Th from TIG welding with thoriated electrodes has been determined at five different workshops. Welding with both alternating and direct current was investigated. The exposure levels of 232Th were generally below 10 mBq m(-3) in the breathing zone of the welders. Two samples from AC welding showed significant higher exposure levels, probably due to maladjustment of the TIG welding power source. Samples of the respirable fraction of 232Th from grinding thoriated electrodes were also collected showing exposure levels of 5 mBq m(-3) or lower. A dose estimate has been made for two scenarios, one realistic and one with conservative assumptions, showing that the annual committed effective dose from inhalation of 232Th, 230Th, 228Th and 228Ra, for a full-time TIG welder, in the realistic case is below 0.3 mSv and with conservative assumptions around 1 mSv or lower. The contribution from grinding electrodes was lower, 10 microSv or lower in the realistic case and 63 microSv or lower based on conservative assumptions. The study does not exclude occurrence of higher exposure levels under welding conditions different from those prevailing in this study. 相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of the present study is to compare two different methods for evaluation of the quality of clinical X-ray images. METHODS: Based on fifteen lumbar spine radiographs, two new sets of images were created. A hybrid image set was created by adding two distributions of artificial lesions to each original image. The image quality parameters spatial resolution and noise were manipulated and a total of 210 hybrid images were created. A set of 105 disease-free images was created by applying the same combinations of spatial resolution and noise to the original images. The hybrid images were evaluated with the free-response forced error experiment (FFE) and the normal images with visual grading analysis (VGA) by nine experienced radiologists. RESULTS: In the VGA study, images with low noise were preferred over images with higher noise levels. The alteration of the MTF had a limited influence on the VGA score. For the FFE study, the visibility of the lesions was independent of the sharpness and the noise level. No correlation was found between the two image quality measures. CONCLUSIONS: FFE is a precise method for evaluation of image quality, but the results are only valid for the type of lesion used in the study, whereas VGA is a more general method for clinical image quality assessment. The results of the FFE study indicate that there might be a potential to lower the dose levels in lumbar spine radiography without losing important diagnostic information. 相似文献

The dependence on the hydration rate for Alite and Belite clinker phases in the presence of a polycarboxylate superplasticizer
PC SP upon addition of colloidal nano-silica CNS were monitored by means of Diffuse Reflectance Infrared spectroscopy DR-FTIR.
Spectral signatures of clinker dissolution and product formation were acquired for both materials. The rates for the build-up
of product vibrational band intensities were found to depend sensitively on addition of CNS. The hydration product was proposed
to be calcium-silicate-hydrate C–S–H. Details in the spectral signatures were found to differ. Quantum chemical calculations
were employed and found to be consistent with the interpretation that small clusters dominate the Alite C–S–H spectrum, whereas

We present an algorithm that enables real-time dynamic shading in direct volume rendering using general lighting, including directional lights, point lights, and environment maps. Real-time performance is achieved by encoding local and global volumetric visibility using spherical harmonic (SH) basis functions stored in an efficient multiresolution grid over the extent of the volume. Our method enables high-frequency shadows in the spatial domain, but is limited to a low-frequency approximation of visibility and illumination in the angular domain. In a first pass, level of detail (LOD) selection in the grid is based on the current transfer function setting. This enables rapid online computation and SH projection of the local spherical distribution of visibility information. Using a piecewise integration of the SH coefficients over the local regions, the global visibility within the volume is then computed. By representing the light sources using their SH projections, the integral over lighting, visibility, and isotropic phase functions can be efficiently computed during rendering. The utility of our method is demonstrated in several examples showing the generality and interactive performance of the approach. 相似文献

Colloidal assembly of silica (nano)particles is a powerful method to design functional materials across multiple length scales. Although this method has enabled the fabrication of a wide range of silica‐based materials, attempts to design and synthesize porous materials with a high level of tuneability and control over pore dimensions have remained relatively unsuccessful. Here, the colloidal assembly of silica nanoparticles into mesoporous silica microspheres (MSMs) is reported using a discrete set of silica sols within the confinement of a water‐in‐oil emulsion system. By studying the independent manipulation of different assembly parameters during the sol–gel process, a design strategy is outlined to synthesize MSMs with excellent reproducibility and independent control over pore size and overall porosity, which does not require additional ageing or post‐treatment steps to reach pore sizes as large as 50 nm. The strategy presented here can provide the necessary tools for the microstructural design of the next generation of tailor‐made silica microspheres for use in separation applications and beyond. 相似文献

The egress strategy in high‐rise buildings has traditionally been based on the sole use of stairs for evacuation. However, it is becoming more common to include evacuation elevators in the egress strategy in high‐rise buildings. Traditionally, evacuation elevators have not been allowed as an evacuation route, and people have been instructed to not use elevators in case of fire. This means that people might still not consider evacuation elevators even if they are designed to be safe in case of fire. Even if people choose evacuation elevators, they might not be willing to wait very long for an elevator to arrive. Virtual reality (VR) experiments were conducted to study exit choice and the waiting time for evacuation elevators in high‐rise buildings. The experiment was performed in a VR lab with a VR model of an existing high‐rise building. Results suggest that a simple way‐finding system using green flashing lights can influence people to more likely choose the elevator as their first evacuation choice. The results also show that the general trend is that people wait for either a limited time (<5 min) or a long time (>20 min). Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献
