Media ratings for violence and sex: Implications for policymakers and parents.

This article reviews research on the implementation of media-rating systems, parents' use and evaluation of them, and the impact of ratings on children. Although half or more of parents report using media-rating systems, understanding of various components of the systems is low, particularly for television ratings. A meta-analysis of national polls shows that parents overwhelmingly prefer that ratings specify content, rather than giving age recommendations. A second meta-analysis, of experiments testing the effects of ratings on children's interest in programs, shows that ratings indicating restricted or controversial content have a deterrent effect for children under age 8 but that, by age 11 and especially for boys, the ratings show a small enticement effect. This effect occurs for both age-based and content-based ratings. Implications for policymakers and parents are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)     

Microfabricated preconcentrator-focuser for a microscale gas chromatograph

The design, fabrication, and testing of a preconcentrator-focuser (PCF), consisting of a thick micromachined Si heater packed with a small quantity of a granular adsorbent material are described. The PCF is developed to capture and concentrate vapors for subsequent focused thermal desorption and analysis in a micro gas chromatograph. The microheater contains an array of high-aspect-ratio, etched-Si heating elements, 520 /spl mu/m (h)/spl times/50 /spl mu/m (w)/spl times/3000 /spl mu/m (l), bounded by an annulus of Si and thermally isolated from the remaining substrate by an air gap. This structure is sandwiched between Pyrex glass plates with inlet/outlet ports that accept capillary tubes for sample flow and is sealed by anodic bonding (bottom) and rapidly annealed glass/metal/Si solder bonding (top). The large microheater surface area allows for high adsorption capacity and efficient, uniform thermal desorption of vapors captured on the adsorbent within the structure. The adsorbent consists of roughly spherical granules, /spl sim/200 /spl mu/m in diameter, of a high-surface-area, graphitized carbon. Key design considerations, fabrication technologies, and results of performance tests are presented with an emphasis on the thermal desorption characteristics of several representative volatile organic compounds as a function of volumetric flow rates and heating rates. Preconcentration factors as high as 5600 and desorbed peak widths as narrow as 0.8 s are achieved from 0.25-L samples of benzene at modest heating rates. The effects of operating variables on sensitivity, chromatographic resolution, and detection limits are assessed. Testing of this PCF with a micromachined separation column and integrated sensor array is discussed briefly.

论黄河三角洲流路演变及河口治理的指导原则

通过分析黄河三角洲流路演变中溯源堆积及溯源冲刷对典河下游河道影响的范围，幅度和作用历时，提出在黄河泥沙从根本上减少之前，河口治理的指导原则应是在有利于工农业发展和有利于防洪防凌前提下，有计划地安排河口流路。     

TiO_2对ZrO_2－NiCr金属陶瓷烧结特性和相稳定性的影响

本文研究了ＴｉＯ２掺入对ＣａＯ稳定ＺｒＯ２（简称ＣａＳＺ－ＮｉＣｒ）金属陶瓷烧结特性的影响，测定了ＣａＳＺ－ＮｉＣｒ－ＴｉＯ２金属陶瓷烧结样品的密度和显微硬度，结果表明，ＴｉＯ２的掺入能提高ＣａＳＺ－ＮＩＣｒ金属陶瓷的烧结密度和显微硬度，对ＣａＳＺ－ＮｉＣｒ金属陶瓷有助烧结作用．金相观察表明，ＴｉＯ３的掺入改变了ＮｉＣｒ相在金属陶瓷中的形貌，说明了ＮｉＣｒ与ＣａＳＺ的浸润性有一定的改善．ＸＲＤ和ＥＰＭＡ分析结果显示，ＴｉＯ２偏聚在ＮｉＣｒ金属相中，不影响ＣａＳＺ的稳定性．

Code generation for a family of executable modelling notations

We are investigating semantically configurable model-driven engineering (MDE). The goal of this work is a modelling environment that supports flexible, configurable modelling notations, in which specifiers can configure the semantics of notations to suit their needs and yet still have access to the types of analysis tools and code generators normally associated with MDE. In this paper, we describe semantically configurable code generation for a family of behavioural modelling notations. The family includes variants of statecharts, process algebras, Petri Nets, and SDL88. The semantics of this family is defined using template semantics, which is a parameterized structured operational semantics in which parameters represent semantic variation points. A specific notation is derived by instantiating the family’s template semantics with parameter values that specify semantic choices. We have developed a code-generator generator (CGG) that creates a suitable Java code generator for a subset of derivable modelling notations. Our prototype CGG supports 26 semantics parameters, 89 parameter values, and 7 composition operators. As a result, we are able to produce code generators for a sizable family of modelling notations, though at present the performance of our generated code is about an order of magnitude slower than that produced by commercial-grade generators.

Novel application of nanocrystalline nickel electrodeposit: Making good diamond tools easily, efficiently and economically

Electrodeposition has been identified as a feasible and economical technique for nanomaterials application. This article details an improved approach to producing better diamond tools at lower cost and with higher productivity. Pulse-electroformed nanocrystalline nickel was used as the new matrix. The pulse parameters were determined after examination of the microstructure, grain size, hardness and tensile strength of the deposits obtained at different average current densities (J_m) with constant pulse-on time and pulse-off time. It is shown that, with J_m ranging from 1 Adm^− 2 to 14 Adm^− 2, the grain size decreases sharply from 180 nm to about 10 nm while the hardness and tensile strength significantly increase at first and then reach their peaks respectively, although the strength fails to stay long. Current density J_m that produced the highest hardness and strength of deposit (with grain size of 20 nm) was chosen for new diamond tools that exhibited 20.2% longer service life than their usual Ni-Co counterparts. Therefore, nanocrystalline electrodeposits are expected to be an upgrading substitute for conventional polycrystalline matrix.
