The gamma aminobutyric acid-A (GABAA) agonist, muscimol, the glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, D-2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid (AP5), and the inhibitor of the extracellularly regulated kinases (ERKs), UO 126, cause retrograde amnesia when administered to the hippocampus. In the present study, the authors found that they all cause retrograde amnesia for 1-trial inhibitory avoidance, not only when infused into the dorsal CA1 region of the hippocampus, but also when infused into the basolateral amygdala or the entorhinal, parietal, and posterior cingulate cortices. The posttraining time course of the effect of each drug was, however, quite different across brain structures. Thus, in all of them, NMDA receptors and the ERK pathway are indispensable for memory consolidation, and GABAA receptor activation inhibits memory consolidation: but in each case, their influence is interwoven differently. Traditional molecular and biochemical methods, such as schizodeme analysis, karyotyping, DNA fingerprinting, and enzyme electrophoretic profiles, have shown a large variability among Trypanosoma cruzi isolates. In contrast to those results, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of sequences from the 24S alpha ribosomal RNA gene and from the mini-exon gene nontranscribed spacer indicated a dimorphism among T. cruzi isolates, which enabled the definition of two major parasite lineages. In the present study, 86 T. cruzi field stocks (68 isolated from humans with defined presentations of Chagas' disease and 18 from triatomines) derived from four Brazilian geographic areas were typed by the PCR assay based on the DNA sequences of the mini-exon and 24S alpha rRNA genes. These stocks were ordered into the two major T. cruzi lineages. Lineage 1 was associated mainly with human isolates and lineage 2 with the sylvatic cycle of the parasite.  相似文献

Since blood is a biologic product, it is unlikely that the risk for transfusion-transmitted infection will ever be reduced to zero. The approach to emerging infections associated with transfusion of blood and blood products includes assessing the transmissibility of the agent by this route; developing effective prevention strategies, including screening tests and donor deferral policies; improving viral and bacterial inactivation procedures; and surveillance for known, as well as emerging and poorly characterized, transfusion-transmitted agents. Vigilance is needed to help ensure proper balance between safety and the availability of blood. Finally, vigilance needs to extend to the developing world, where the basic elements to reduce transfusion-transmitted infections and systems of disease surveillance are often not available.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Green chemistry, also known as sustainable chemistry, refers to environmentally friendly chemicals and processes that result in reduced waste, elimination of costly end‐of‐the‐pipe treatments; safer products, and reduced use of energy and resources. In this context this study aims to evaluate a novel green sensitizer support for photochemistry use. For this propose, Rose Bengal (RB) and juglone production were chosen as a model sensitizer and a model photoreaction, respectively. RESULTS: The results showed that the RB‐alginate beads prepared using a solution of 20% CaCl2 had better stability in the solvent t‐amyl alcohol. Comparing all the immobilized systems a larger reaction yield (57.5%) was obtained when the proportion of the beads in the photoreactor flask was 5% (v/v). Although when using suspended RB the reaction yield was better (62%) the environmental friendly attributes and economical advantages of immobilized systems overcome it. CONCLUSIONS: The potentiality of this new kind of sensitizer immobilization was demonstrated and a mechanism based on immobilization of cells was proposed. Furthermore the use of this novel green support presents a greater efficiency and potentially lower costs than the commercial supported RB Sensitox. We describe a method to create a certain number of matrices each representing a class of isomorphic graphs. These matrices show some special normal form. The representative matrices are selected and numbered such that their numbers differ the less the more similar the structures of the matrices are.
