Fatty acid methyl esters were prepared from spadefish (Chaetodipterus faber) liver oil and were analyzed by open tublar gas chromatography. The unusual fatty acidtrans-6-hexadecenoic acid was identified as a major monoenoic component by reductive ozonolysis and by mass spectrometry of the di-trimethylsilyl ether. Very minor amounts of 7-methyl-7-hexadecenoic acid were found.     

Factors in the modification by isolation of electroconvulsive shock-produced retrograde amnesia in the rat.

Cites earlier research which demonstrated that placing rats in a sensory-restricted environment during the electroconvulsive shock- (ECS) retention interval following 1-trial appetitive learning will prevent or eliminate ECS-produced retrograde amnesia. Exp I replicated this finding using 32 male Dublin albino rats in a 1-trial aversive learning task, indicating that this effect is not task specific. Exp II attempted to determine whether illumination or the restricted environment was the crucial factor in this phenomenon. 64 male Sprague-Dawley rats placed in the light during the ECS-retention interval, whether restricted or in the colony, demonstrated retrograde amnesia after ECS. However, Ss left in the dark during this interval demonstrated little, if any, retention deficit particularly if this condition was combined with sensory isolation. 8C2--Fluid flow measurements with a laser Doppler velocimeter

The basic principles of the laser Doppler velocimeter, a new instrument for measurement of localized flow velocities in gases and liquids, are discussed in detail. Velocity measurements are made by detecting the Doppler shift in monochromatic laser light which is scattered from small contaminant particles in the fluid. ACWgas laser serves as the light source, and the Doppler shift is detected by optical heterodyne techniques. The latest fluid flow measurements obtained with the laser Doppler velocimeter are presented.     

A Shorter Truncated Sequential Test

This paper develops a truncated sequential test (TST) for production models that makes use of the preproduction testing and that allows unequal sample sizes from the production and the preproduction models. An example is given that compares the fixed time test (FTT) against the proposed truncated sequential test. In this example a significant reduction in testing required on the production model is achieved. Power tables for such tests are tabulated.
