Malolactic fermentation (MLF) traditionally used in winemaking was applied to sea buckthorn to reduce the high sourness of the berry juice. Chemical and microbiological aspects, as well as sensory properties of the juice during MLF were studied in order to develop an optimal process. In 1:1 water diluted juice with malic acid content of 15 g/l and pH 2.8, efficient conversion of l-malic acid to l-lactic acid was achieved with direct inoculation of unadapted Oenococcus oeni at a cell density of 109 CFU/ml. The rapid malic acid degradation was performed by non-growing bacterial cells without loss of sugars, vitamin C, or pulp oil. More than 50% of the initial malic acid was metabolized to lactic acid and CO2 already in 12 h of fermentation and a significant decrease in sourness and astringency was noticed. In 24 h fermentation, pH value was increased to 3.1 and only 3 g/l malic acid remained in the juice. Prolonged fermentation had only minor effect on malolactic reaction, but off-flavor of the juice began to increase.  相似文献

The morphological, mechanical, thermal, and tribological properties of high‐density polyethylene (HDPE) composites reinforced with organo‐modified nanoclay (3 and 6 wt%) were studied. A commercial maleic anhydride‐based polymeric compatibilizer (PEgMA) was used to improve the adhesion between the polyethylene and clay. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) characterization of composites revealed that nanoclay exists mainly in a multilayered structure in the HDPE matrix. Mechanical testing of composites showed that Young's modulus and tensile strength increased with nanoclay content. Coefficients of the linear thermal expansion (CLTE) of HDPE–PEgMA–clay composites were slightly lower in the flow direction than those of HDPE–PEgMA. The tribological properties were measured in dry conditions against a steel counterface. The friction coefficient of the matrix was decreased by the addition of clay. Electron microscopic results suggested that the wear mechanism for HDPE and HDPE composites was mainly adhesive. Application of charged polymer chains as additives for lubricating neutral surfaces in aqueous environment, especially via polymer physisorption, is generally impeded by the electrostatic repulsion between adjacent polymers on the surface. In this study, we have investigated the adsorption and aqueous lubricating properties of an amphiphilic triblock copolymer, comprised of a neutral poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) block, a hydrophobic poly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate) (PMEA) block, and a charged poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) block, namely PEG-b-PMEA-b-PMAA. After adsorption onto a nonpolar hydrophobic surface from aqueous solution, an equal and homogeneous mixture of neutral PEG and charged PMAA chains is formed on the surface, with an adsorbed polymer mass comparable to its fully neutral counterpart, PEG-b-PMEA-b-PEG. The lubricity of PEG-b-PMEA-b-PMAA showed significant improvement compared to fully charged polymer chains, e.g. poly(acrylic acid)-block-poly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate) (PAA-b-PMEA), which is attributed to dilution of charged moieties on the surface and subsequent improvement of the lubricating film stability.  相似文献

We introduce a versatile and high precision three-dimensional optical tweezers setup with minimal optical interference to measure small forces and manipulate single molecules in the vicinity of a weak reflective surface. Our tweezers system integrates an inverted optical microscope with a single IR-laser beam that is spatially filtered in an appropriate way to allow force measurements in three dimensions with remarkably high precision when operated in backscattered light detection mode. The setup was tested by overstretching a lambda-DNA in x and z directions (perpendicular and along the optical axis), and by manipulating individual lambda-DNA molecules in the vicinity of a nanopore that allowed quantitative single molecule threading experiments with minimal optical interference.  相似文献

Continuous-fiber-reinforced SiC/SiC-based matrix composite materials, to be used in the first-wall blanket of a fusion reactor, were prepared by the infiltration of SiC cloth with SiC-based suspensions of various chemical compositions. The compositions were tailored with respect to the calculated activation in a fast-neutron flux. Liquid-phase sintering was used for material densification, using different sintering aids, such as Al2O3, Y2O3, P2O5, AlN, etc. The microstructures of the differently prepared materials were studied with scanning and transmission electron microscopy and microanalysis. Social comparisons are frequently used for self-evaluation. As a consequence, judges have to be efficient in each comparison step. Standard selection, however, is traditionally seen as an elaborate process in which judges deliberately select similar standards. We propose that often judges do not engage in such deliberate selection processes. Instead, they use routine standards--standards that have frequently been used for self-evaluation. Consistent with this assumption, Studies 1-3 demonstrate that student participants activate knowledge about their best friend--a likely routine standard--during self-evaluation. In Study 1, lexical decisions for the best friend's name are facilitated after self-evaluation. In Study 2, participants judge their best friend faster after evaluating themselves on the same dimension. In Study 3, this is even the case if the best friend is dissimilar and consequently undiagnostic. Finally, in Study 4, self-evaluations are primarily influenced by comparison information about an experimentally created routine standard.
