High-T/sub 0/ strain-compensated InGaAsSb-AlGaAsSb quantum-well lasers emitting at 2.43 /spl mu/m

Strain-compensated InGaAsSb-AlGaAsSb quantum-well (QW) lasers emitting near 2.5 /spl mu/m have been grown by solid-source molecular beam epitaxy. The relatively high arsenic composition causing a tensile strain in the Al/sub 0.25/GaAs/sub 0.08/Sb barriers lowers the valence band edge and the hole energy level, leading to an increased hole confinement and improved laser performance. A 60% external differential efficiency in pulsed mode was achieved for 1000-/spl mu/m-long lasers emitting at 2.43 /spl mu/m. A characteristic temperature T/sub 0/ as high as 163 K and a lasing-wavelength temperature dependence of 1.02 nm//spl deg/C were obtained at room temperature. For 2000 /spl times/ 200 /spl mu/m/sup 2/ broad-area three-QW lasers without lateral current confinement, a low pulsed threshold of 275 A/cm/sup 2/ was measured.     

Testing the robustness of CIECAM02

CIE TC8‐01 has adopted a new color appearance model: CIECAM02¹ replaces the CIECAM97s.² The new model consists of a number of refinements and simplifications of the CIECAM97s color appearance model. Using transistors to linearise biochemistry

A fundamental relationship exists between diffusion characteristics within semiconductors and Nernstian equilibrium in biological systems. In a transistor operating in weak inversion the potential difference between terminals governs electron concentration in an exponential way according to the Boltzmann distribution of charged particles while in a biochemical cell the potential difference across a membrane is governed by ionic concentration in a logarithmic way according to the Nernst equation. These two nonlinear physical phenomena form an interaction that potentially leads to linearisation and subsequent modelling of or interaction with biological systems by integrated semiconductor devices. To demonstrate the authors' hypothesis a silicon transistor-based biosensor is considered. This natural bridge between biochemistry and semiconductor silicon chips will enable the potential mass production of portable biochemical devices for the consumer market     

对梅山技工培训工作方向之浅见

根据梅山公司发展的需要，以提高技工岗位绩效和缩小技工现有技能水平与理想绩效行为差距为目的，对技工培训的今后工作方向提出了个人的看法。要想促进技工培训工作更上一层楼，必须进一步完善培训体系，遵循ADIE进行运作；按需求分析，确立培训目标，制定切实可行的计划，编制针对性和可操作性强的技工培训教材，以“请进来、送出去”的方法培训和优化师资力量，不断改进教学方法。     

Phase-Error Measurement and Compensation in PLL Frequency Synthesizers for FMCW Sensors—I: Context and Application

The synthesis of linear frequency sweeps or chirps is required, among others, in frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar systems for object position estimation. Low phase and frequency errors in sweeps with high bandwidth are a prerequisite for good accuracy and resolution, but, in certain applications where high measurement rates are desired, the additional demand for short sweep cycles has to be met. Transient phenomena in dynamic synthesizers as well as nonlinear system behavior usually cause unknown phase errors in the system output. For the class of phase-locked-loop (PLL)-based frequency synthesizers, a novel output phase-measurement method and dedicated circuitry are proposed that allow significant reduction of phase errors by adaptive input predistortion. The measurement procedure is implemented within the PLL control circuitry and does not require external equipment. The application of this method to PLL system identification and linearization of extremely short frequency sweeps is shown     

守望春天

2004年12月22日，北京降下了这一年的首场大雪，整个北京城银装素裹。与此同时，人民大会堂里热气腾腾，中国室内设计学会成立15周年的庆典正在举行。作为个新型的学会，中国室内设计学会发展的进程紧紧跟随着我国改革开放和经济发展的步伐，我们用了二十年的时间达到了别的国家上百年时间才能达到的规模。中国室内设计学会已经逐步走入它的辉煌时代，正呈现着副朝气蓬勃的春天景象。     

Considerations and strategies behind the design and construction requirements of the Istanbul Strait immersed tunnel

This being a design-build project, the challenge faced during preparations of the Employer’s requirements for design and construction of the Istanbul Strait immersed tunnel was to give the contractor as much freedom as possible and yet specify enough so that the Employer obtained the required facility. When completed, this will be a world-class facility. This paper discusses on a strategic level many of the aspects to be presented by the author in two papers in later sessions of the day. Unusual features of this crossing include the deepest ever immersed tunnel crossing, extra waterproofing requirements, strong currents with bi-directional flow, close proximity of the North Anatolian Fault which is predicted to have a major seismic event during the life of the tunnel, and the method of connecting the adjacent bored tunnels to the immersed tunnel. Safety during tunnel construction and operation has been paramount, and resulted in changes to contract packaging and extra requirements. Other challenges discussed include fish migration, control of an international waterway, environmental issues and ensuring the stability of the soft soils during a seismic event.
