A multiple circular path convolution neural network system for detection of mammographic masses 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A multiple circular path convolution neural network (MCPCNN) architecture specifically designed for the analysis of tumor and tumor-like structures has been constructed. We first divided each suspected tumor area into sectors and computed the defined mass features for each sector independently. These sector features were used on the input layer and were coordinated by convolution kernels of different sizes that propagated signals to the second layer in the neural network system. The convolution kernels were trained, as required, by presenting the training cases to the neural network. In this study, randomly selected mammograms were processed by a dual morphological enhancement technique. Radiodense areas were isolated and were delineated using a region growing algorithm. The boundary of each region of interest was then divided into 36 sectors using 36 equi-angular dividers radiated from the center of the region. A total of 144 Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System-based features (i.e., four features per sector for 36 sectors) were computed as input values for the evaluation of this newly invented neural network system. The overall performance was 0.78-0.80 for the areas (Az) under the receiver operating characteristic curves using the conventional feed-forward neural network in the detection of mammographic masses. The performance was markedly improved with Az values ranging from 0.84 to 0.89 using the MCPCNN. This paper does not intend to claim the best mass detection system. Instead it reports a potentially better neural network structure for analyzing a set of the mass features defined by an investigator. 相似文献

This article advances the beginnings of a general theory of organizational features to aid in understanding why health campaigns that work well in one organization may be ineffectual in another organization. The physical, social, and information structures of organizations are theorized to create an interaction environment that is distinct to each organization and that influences health campaigns. To test this argument, an organ donation campaign was conducted in 46 organizations. Multilevel modeling yielded mixed findings. Physical structure was negatively associated with signing an organ donor card. Social structure and information structure were positively associated with communication with coworkers about donation and communicative peer influence. Multi‐material polymer scaffolds with multiscale pore architectures are characterized and tested with vascular and heart cells as part of a platform for replacing damaged heart muscle. Vascular and muscle scaffolds are constructed from a new material, poly(limonene thioether) (PLT32i), which meets the design criteria of slow biodegradability, elastomeric mechanical properties, and facile processing. The vascular–parenchymal interface is a poly(glycerol sebacate) (PGS) porous membrane that meets different criteria of rapid biodegradability, high oxygen permeance, and high porosity. A hierarchical architecture of primary (macroscale) and secondary (microscale) pores is created by casting the PLT32i prepolymer onto sintered spheres of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) within precisely patterned molds followed by photocuring, de‐molding, and leaching out the PMMA. Prefabricated polymer templates are cellularized, assembled, and perfused in order to engineer spatially organized, contractile heart tissue. Structural and functional analyses show that the primary pores guide heart cell alignment and enable robust perfusion while the secondary pores increase heart cell retention and reduce polymer volume fraction. 相似文献

Biocompatible and degradable dual-delivery gel systems based on hyperbranched dendritic−linear−dendritic copolymers (HBDLDs) is herein conceptualized and accomplished via thiol-ene click chemistry. The elasticity of the hydrogels is tunable by varying the lengths of PEG (2, 6, 10 kDa) or the dry weight percentages (20, 30, 40 wt%), and are found to range from 2–14.7 kPa, comparable to human skin. The co-delivery of antibiotics is achieved, where the hydrophilic drug novobiocin sodium salt (NB) is entrapped within the hydrophilic hydrogel, while the hydrophobic antibiotic ciprofloxacin (CIP) is encapsulated within the dendritic nanogels (DNGs) with hydrophobic cores (DNGs-CIP). The DNGs-CIP with drug loading capacity of 2.83 wt% are then physically entrapped within the hybrid hydrogels through UV curing. The hybrid hydrogels enable the quick release of NB and prolonged released of CIP. In vitro cell infection assays showed that the antibiotic-loaded hybrid hydrogels are able to treat bacterial infections with significant bacterial reduction. Hybrid hydrogel band aids are fabricated and exhibited better antibacterial activity compared with commercial antimicrobial band aids. Remarkably, most hydrogels and hybrid hydrogels show enhanced human dermal cell proliferation and could be degraded into non-toxic constituents, showing great promise as wound dressing materials. 相似文献

Cellular membranes have long served as an inspiration for nanomaterial research. The preparation of ultrathin polydopamine (PDA) films with integrated protein pores containing phospholipids and an embedded domain of a membrane protein glycophorin A as simplified cell membrane mimics is reported. Large area, ultrathin PDA films are obtained by electropolymerization on gold surfaces with 10–18 nm thickness and dimensions of up to 2.5 cm2. The films are transferred from gold to various other substrates such as nylon mesh, silicon, or substrates containing holes in the micrometer range, and they remain intact even after transfer. The novel transfer technique gives access to freestanding PDA films that remain stable even at the air interfaces with elastic moduli of ≈6–12 GPa, which are higher than any other PDA films reported before. As the PDA film thickness is within the range of cellular membranes, monodisperse protein nanopores, so‐called “nanodiscs,” are integrated as functional entities. These nanodisc‐containing PDA films can serve as semi‐permeable films, in which the embedded pores control material transport. In the future, these simplified cell membrane mimics may offer structural investigations of the embedded membrane proteins to receive an improved understanding of protein‐mediated transport processes in cellular membranes. 相似文献

Iron oxide nanoparticles are formidable multifunctional systems capable of contrast enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging, guidance under remote fields, heat generation, and biodegradation. Yet, this potential is underutilized in that each function manifests at different nanoparticle sizes. Here, sub‐micrometer discoidal magnetic nanoconstructs are realized by confining 5 nm ultra‐small super‐paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (USPIOs) within two different mesoporous structures, made out of silicon and polymers. These nanoconstructs exhibit transversal relaxivities up to ≈10 times (r 2 ≈ 835 mm ?1 s?1) higher than conventional USPIOs and, under external magnetic fields, collectively cooperate to amplify tumor accumulation. The boost in r 2 relaxivity arises from the formation of mesoscopic USPIO clusters within the porous matrix, inducing a local reduction in water molecule mobility as demonstrated via molecular dynamics simulations. The cooperative accumulation under static magnetic field derives from the large amount of iron that can be loaded per nanoconstuct (up to ≈65 fg) and the consequential generation of significant inter‐particle magnetic dipole interactions. In tumor bearing mice, the silicon‐based nanoconstructs provide MRI contrast enhancement at much smaller doses of iron (≈0.5 mg of Fe kg?1 animal) as compared to current practice. 相似文献

Elastomeric polymers can be filled with metallic micro- or nanoparticles to obtain electrical conductivity, in which the conductivity is largely determined by the intrinsic conductivity of and contact resistance between the particles. Electrons will flow through the material effectively when the percolation threshold for near-neighbor contacts is exceeded and sufficiently close contacts between the filler particles are realized for electron tunneling to occur. Silver-coated glass microparticles of two types (fibers and spheres) were used as fillers in a thermoplastic elastomer composite based on styrene–ethylene–butylene–styrene copolymer, and the direct-current (DC) resistance and radiofrequency impedance were significantly reduced by coating the filler particles with octadecylmercaptan. Not only was the resistance reduced but also the atypical positive piezoresistivity effect observed in these elastomers was strongly reduced, such that resistivity values below 0.01 Ω cm were obtained for compression ratios up to 20%. In the DC measurements, an additional decrease of resistivity was obtained by inclusion of π-extended aromatic compounds, such as diphenylhexatriene. Some qualitative theories are presented to illuminate the possible mechanisms of action of these surface coatings on the piezoresistivity. 相似文献

We study finitely generated and finite systems defined by linear partial difference equations with constant coefficients in a Noetherian ring. The two notions coincide for finite rings, and we show that all finite systems exhibit certain periodicity properties.
