The specificity of practice hypothesis predicts the development of a sensorimotor representation specific to the afferent feedback available during skill acquisition (Proteau, 1992; Proteau, Marteniuk, Girouard, & Dugas, 1987). In the present investigation, we used the specificity of practice hypothesis to test whether skill acquisition through visual imagery would lead to the development of a sensory-specific movement representation similar to one resulting from actual practice. To accomplish this objective, participants practiced walking a 12-m linear path in one of three practice conditions, full-vision (FV), no-vision (NV), or visual imagery (VI), for either 10 or 100 trials. Knowledge of spatial and/or temporal results (KR) was provided to participants following each trial during this phase. Following acquisition, participants completed 10 NV trials without KR. An analysis of root-mean-squared-error (RMSE) indicated NV participants were more accurate than both FV and VI participants in the transfer condition. We believe the equivalence in transfer RMSE between FV and VI suggests that there are similarities between the movement representations attained by FV and VI practice. The purpose of this paper is a study of environmental change in the Logone floodplain in northern Cameroon following the construction in the 1970s of a dam for a rice irrigation project. This unique ecosystem, designated as a biosphere reserve for supporting an impressive wildlife population, depends on the annual overflowing of the lowland. Several communities living in the plain rely upon water and natural resources of the floodplain to support recession agriculture, the fisheries, wetland rice and livestock. But both persistently poor rainfalls in the Sahel and the adverse impacts of the dam have devastated the area, forcing a large number of people to leave. This paper gives the scope of this situation based on geospatial information and field investigation, and also early results of the floodplain rehabilitation programme conducted since 1994 under the supervision of the World Wildlife Fund. In addition to demonstrating the potential of geomatics technology in environmental hazard assessment, this case study highlights the complexity of water-related issues in areas of conflicting interests. A comprehensive design methodology is proposed in this paper in order to optimise E-field probes used for evaluating the specific absorption ratio within liquid equivalent tissues exposed to radiofrequency signals. Hybrid analysis approaches are investigated, combining both electromagnetic (three dimensional) and circuit simulators. This design environment can therefore be considered for enhancing E-field detectors’ performances in terms of sensitivity, isotropy, dimensions and shape. Lung cancer is the most common and most fatal cancer worldwide. Thus, improving early diagnosis and therapy is necessary. Previously, gadolinium‐based ultra‐small rigid platforms (USRPs) were developed to serve as multimodal imaging probes and as radiosensitizing agents. In addition, it was demonstrated that USRPs can be detected in the lungs using ultrashort echo‐time magnetic resonance imaging (UTE‐MRI) and fluorescence imaging after intrapulmonary administration in healthy animals. The goal of the present study is to evaluate their theranostic properties in mice with bioluminescent orthotopic lung cancer, after intrapulmonary nebulization or conventional intravenous administration. It is found that lung tumors can be detected non‐invasively using fluorescence tomography or UTE‐MRI after nebulization of USRPs, and this is confirmed by histological analysis of the lung sections. The deposition of USRPs around the tumor nodules is sufficient to generate a radiosensitizing effect when the mice are subjected to a single dose of 10 Gy conventional radiation one day after inhalation (mean survival time of 112 days versus 77 days for irradiated mice without USRPs treatment). No apparent systemic toxicity or induction of inflammation is observed. These results demonstrate the theranostic properties of USRPs for the multimodal detection of lung tumors and improved radiotherapy after nebulization. 相似文献

Three biomass chipping operations of roadside logging residues were studied in New Brunswick and Maine. Two of the operations used a skidder-loader to form the roadside debris into larger piles closer to the road edge prior to chipping. Average chipping productivity ranged from 8.l oven dry Mg per Productive Machine Hour (OdMg PMH−1) to 28.2 OdMg PMH−1 depending on the site and chipping system used. The average cost of chips on board the chip vans ranged from $15.29 CAN OdMg−1 to $25.86 CAN OdMg−1. The chips were transported to three energy plants in Maine. Ti1 ? xVxO2 (x = 0.0–0.10) nanopowders were successfully synthesized by a microwave-assisted sol–gel technique and their crystal structure and electronic structure were investigated. The products were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The results revealed that TiO2 powders maintained the anatase phase for calcination temperature below 600 °C, but gradually changed to the rutile phase above 800 °C. The formation of the rutile phase was completed at 1000 °C. For Ti1 ? xVxO2 (x = 0.05) powders, the phase transformation appeared at 600 °C. The absorption edge of Ti1 ? xVxO2 (x > 0) powders broadened to the visible region with increasing V concentration and a strong visible light absorption was obtained with 10% V doping. V doping and subsequent coexistence of both anatase and rutile phases in our Ti1 ? xVxO2 nanoparticles are considered to be responsible for the enhanced absorption of visible light up to 800 nm. 相似文献

Ultra-small gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (US-Gd(2)O(3)) are used to provide 'positive' contrast effects in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and are being considered for molecular and cellular imaging applications. However, these nanoparticles can aggregate over time in aqueous medium, as well as when internalized into cells. This study is aimed at measuring in vitro, in aqueous medium, the impact of aggregation on the relaxometric properties of paramagnetic US-Gd(2)O(3) particles. First, the nanoparticle core size as well as aggregation behaviour was assessed by HRTEM. DLS (hydrodynamic diameter) was used to measure the hydrodynamic diameter of nanoparticles and nanoaggregates. The relaxometric properties were measured by NMRD profiling, as well as with (1)H NMR relaxometers. Then, the positive contrast enhancement effect was assessed by using magnetic resonance scanners (at 1.5 and 7 T). At every magnetic field, the longitudinal relaxivity (r(1)) decreased upon agglomeration, while remaining high enough to provide positive contrast. On the other hand, the transverse relaxivity (r(2)) slightly decreased at 0.47 and 1.41 T, but it was enhanced at higher fields (7 and 11.7 T) upon agglomeration. All NMRD profiles revealed a characteristic relaxivity peak in the range 60-100 MHz, suggesting the possibility to use US-Gd(2)O(3) as an efficient 'positive-T(1)' contrast agent at clinical magnetic fields (1-3 T), in spite of aggregation. 相似文献
